About Hideki Naganuma:
Naganuma is an acclaimed videogame music composer best known for his work on the Jet Set Radio series. However, he also produced tracks for other lesser known games like Sega Rally 2006, Ollie King, and Sonic Rush. Blending elements of techno, funk, hip hop, and madcap sampling of the big beat genre, Naganuma's style is often both wildly eclectic yet instantly recognizable.
About this Mixtape:
I'm a die hard Naganuma fan and decided to produce this mix in honor of the re-release of Jet Set Radio on Xbox 360 and PS3. While not all encompassing, I think it gives you a good taste of his defining uptempo tracks. It's a bit wild in parts for sure, but I included some visual elements in the video to break down what's happening in the mix.

More Naganuma Stuff:
Looking for tracks? Sega just re-released the original Jet Set Radio soundtrack on Amazon!
www.amazon.com/...
You can also find some albums on iTunes and Amazon MP3 (though some regions currently have limited access). And while I definitely don't condone piracy, some of Naganuma's more obscure tracks can be quite difficult to find. Google is a search engine.
Finally, here's an interesting recent interview with Naganuma over at RadioSega.net

Best video game music artist of all time? Yes.
Tails' Channel Well, the competition for the title is (and probably always will be) pretty high, but there's no doubt that he is one of the most influential of the 21st century.
CreationUniverse 9000 He's not a video game music artist, he's a mash-up artist
He is pretty good though
Alter Ego Anyone can be a mash-up artist. It's making something original out of a mash-up that's the real challenge.
He's still a mash-up artist :/
Also, he *does* make amazing mash-ups.
he doesnt make mashups, he makes breakbeat with heavy use of sampling similar to Fatboy Slim
"I'm gonna change my ways, I'm gonna, I'm gonna-KICK SOME ASS."
Cleverest transition.

@@ro1y bless u brotha
Your pfp fucking killed me lmao
Game director: How funky can you make this soundtrack?
Hideki: Yes.
This is what an eargasm feels like.
That was, if anything, the most beautiful mixtape I ever heard, holy shit that was gorgeous work man.
Can't believe this is from 8 years ago and I've only found it now, given how much I've looked these songs throughout the years.
Pretty bad ass.
1:02 Sneakman Day/ A New Sneakman
1:43 Metal Sneakman/ Sneakman Scratchin'
1:56 Back 2 Sneakman/ Sneakman Back

Get love sounds like a straight up roast-
Why do people say Teknopathic? It's Teknopathetic.
Surprised with the view count, I thought more people would've listened to this :')
The transitions were too divine :'D Especially the "Fly Like a Butterfly" one but I feel like that's just me being biased about the fact that's my most fave track from Hideki X'D
As the Mixtape was ending I was there like nuuuuuuuuu this can't be itttttt????????
This mixtape is just too good!!! And in a positive way of course ;'D
Damn I teared up listening to this
Same here, especially at the end with sweet soul brother
there will Never Ever be another music composer like Hideki Naganuma
that's what makes his music good
love the intro you included with the quotes, this is amazing. 👍🏻
getting recommended this after years is amazing to the ears
I was not born when he made these songs but as soon as i played jet set radio for the first time i needed to know who made the songs
WORDS DO NOT DESCRIBE.
To put it short: Simply amazing.
I want to see more of the mix of Concept of Love and Funky Dealer.
Two of my favorite songs from JSRF, and they just happen to produce something even more awesome!
This is a pretty dope mix, mate! Nice work.
This is so cool! Thank you for making this, I really like it!

WE'RE SO BACK, BABY!!!

F I R E
*Awesome.*
Amazing mix man!🔥
Is it just me or are the Sonic Rush tracks played the loudest? I can barely her Sneakman over New Day and Metal Scratchin'.
tsangpogorge that might be because of how sonic rush music was made for the ds or just an audio problem
The bass has louder instrumental while treble has louder voices, basically
That's why the Sonic Rush stuff overtakes a lot of things, cause it's all bass
holy
GOD this slaps
Holy shit!
I'm going to fucking ascend!
On youtube on youtube, the concept of replaying!
Niceee
I keep wishing for a new game
Wow
7 billion likes
Hmmm, didn't Hideki not work on the Blazey mixes from Sonic Rush?
It's pretty much a remix of hideki's song, so Hideki did technically make this
I thought this said Hikeki Kamiya at first, then I looked...
Please do a Hideki Kamiya mixtape
wait u mixed all these tracks 2getha?

Oh and fly like a butterfly to a new day
And new adventure LA LA
DEE DEE DEEE DEEE DE DE DE DE DE DE DE DEEE DEEE
You just composed the work of a composer who composed the work of other composers, nice.
At 3:44, I yelled "ROCK THAT SHIT, HOMIE," and felt really dumb when that sample wasn't played.
Math is Power It's back atcha homie. There's a reason the game was only rated T. Though, as it happens, the lyrics to JSR/JSRF music led to lyrics warnings on later releases of Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing (IIRC they got it totally past the radar in that game's sequel). The offender was a line in The Concept of Love, "ready to kick some ass."
aresef it's actually ROCK THAT SHIT HOMIE
I feel dumb bc i thought it was saying fuck that shit homie
The sample is "fuck that shit, homie!", but the composer edited it to say "rock".
You're not alone, homie.
Being a long-time fan of Naganuma's unique game soundtracks, I found myself listening to this well-made mixtape of yours over twenty times. You made a good number of his songs blend with each other almost perfectly! Very well done!
I would love to hear another video game composer mixtape from you! How about Masafumi Takada, former Grasshopper Manufacture composer and founder of Sound Prestige Records? He worked on the soundtracks for games including killer7, No More Heroes, God Hand, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Vanquish, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Danganronpa.
Mystery Ezekude Me again. Just want to let you know that I've already made a tribute mixtape for Masafumi Takada so that you won't have to.
@@MysteryEzekude
I hear Brawl and Vanquish, I'm gonna check it out.
2:38 I want a full version of this so badly.
_"Sneakman"_ *+* _"A New Day"_ has to be one of my favorites here.
When Metal Scratchin' comes on with the "kick some ass" from Concept of love
It's impossible not to react positivly
The most groovy 5 minutes of my life.
Hitting that replay button.
now it's the most groovy 10 minutes of your life.
This is sweet, soul brother.
This is just actually the best thing. Like, ever.
3:45 my favourite mix, fkn slaps 🔥🔥
Utterly the best mixtape ever...
Yeah. I played Rush first, then when I finally got around to playing JGR, I was like 'hey, this sounds like Hideki Naganuma'. LO AND BEHOLD, SAME GUY
I hope Hideki himself has heard this amazing video.
I wouldn't doubt it.
I love you so much.
Sneakman + A New Day sounds like two parts of one song
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HIDEKI NAGANUMA!!!!! 🎁🎁🎁🎂🎀🎈🎂😄😄😜😜
Still listening to this after almost 8 years.
Genuinely one of the best things I've ever heard
Sick mix dude. How did you split the tracks up? Did you have the stems or have you filtered the bass / treble parts from each song?
There's no stems for these tracks as far as I know. Most of this mix boils down to filtering, phrasing, and key pairing.
2:49 holy fuck that transition was clean
Holy shit, this is from 9 years ago? Man, imagine this being made today. That'd be wild.
Completely awesome and mad mixed, great job :D. I'm a fan of Naganuma's works, and never thought that mixing it's own tracks toghether could work ... because it are awesome alone ^o^
I wouldn't include Sonic Rush as "lesser known", albeit that's only because I was a SEGA kid and I recognize Naganuma-san's touch when I hear it.
There needs to be a port of Ollie King
ikr
I love how you ended the mix with Sweet Soul Brother.
since it's the song (albeit the version used here was the version from Future) used during the epilogue of the first Jet Set Radio. It kinda comes off as the "This is the beautiful ending song, to a groundbreaking game."
You sir, had the best idea ever. It's amazing how many of his songs work well together
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen.
OH BOI
My only criticism is that I wish the vocals on each track were louder, other than that this is pretty much perfect.
That was epic. Love Naganuma and his mixes, especially in the JSR games.
:D
This is taking me to great places! Thank you for the mashup! Hideki Naganuma is one of the greatest of all time!!
welcome to SET SET RADIOOOOOOOO
Dude made a banger and vanished. I need more mixtapes
this is so fucking funky!!!!!
holy fuck I'm getting an eargasm!
WOW. LIKE.... WOW. SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
It does get a bit clogged at times. Wickedly glorious besides that.
If the files you've got allow it, you might want to mess around with the equalizer to mix and match the parts so they don't step over each other.
To fly like a butterfly, is what you need.
Such an underrated video. The mashup is carefully made and fits together nicely. 10/10.
My mind jest got blown
my lord, the moment it hit 4:05 i wanted it and the next section to be its own video
god i love that part
how do you made the track visualization part?
wow, this mix is terribly insane
I'm gonna change my way
I'm gonna change my way
I'm gonna change I'm gonna
I'm gonna change my way
I'm gonna gonna gonna KICK SOME ASS
The songs fit in so well
This is fucking amazing
I have listened to this several times.
Hideki Naganuma is obviously some sort of musical wizard
2012 and I just get this in my recommended in 2021. Great remix!
Good on you quoting Hilary Goldstein. He's one of the most authentic reviewers IGN ever had.
Damn this is beyond cool
this is my skating music right here
holy shit. scratches my brain in a way i didnt know was possible. made me cry. fuckin beautiful
