Great interview, and also went to see The Smithereens numerous times at The State Theatre in Falls Church, VA. Great venue, and hope to see them there again in the near future.
When The Smithereens played Rochester, Minnesota, I bumped into Pat DiNizio in the men's room before the gig. He knew me because I had booked him to play one of his living room concerts at a local restaurant. He took me back stage to meet Dennis, Jim, and Severo, and offered me food and drink from their snack table (I declined -- I felt not worthy). I told Jim I really liked his work on their recent cover of The Who's "Tommy." He said, yeah, they were hard to play. I said, yeah, I know! As if I have 1% of the talent at playing guitar that Jim has. I felt silly. Anyway, Pat was one of the nicest human beings I have ever met.

I'm pretty sure that Jim's Rickenbacker 340 is probably the orginal you see in those films from 1987 where their doing Behind The Wall Of Sleep.
