I did buy 43 ounces of gold maples @ approx $300 just before the y2k scam. Then as we all know nothing happened. I then sold the 43 ounces of gold and bought my house I was renting through a rent to own agreement. Gold has gone up 6x since. My house I bought went from $172,000 to 1.3 million.

I own shares in a couple of mature producing gold miners in Australia, NST and NCM , share prices of both are down now of course but they recently paid very good dividends. They are worth holding just for the dividends with a good upside if the price of gold rises.

Also when people start talking about how rates have risen to 1.35% on the 10 year note they make it seem like that's huge, but in fact it's still incredibly low in absolute terms. So that should not be stopping people from buying gold and holding gold. In other words if gold falls out of favor more than it already has so this year, it's going to be based on foolish thinking.

Danielle dimartino booth covered this in her Kitco interview a couple days ago: it's not just the rates it's the speed of the changes (believe she called it the delta). Rates have been shooting up suddenly. Friday's volume on TLT was massive. When you start seeing this sort of volatility it is often a sign that things are breaking. It's spooking the markets. Peter Schiff thinks the FED may have stepped in with massive buying on Thursday which won't show up until the next report comes out. We shall see.

In my humble opinion, gold is not something you look for increases in wealth when you buy. Gold is insurance plain and simple. when people talk about the Central Bank ruining the currency, they're talking about the central bank setting fire to it. Just like with insurance on your house, gold would be insurance against that fire. In general people trade gold and make it go up and down at the margins on a daily weekly or even monthly basis. But the my core tenants for holding gold, is that insurance factor. I don't use it to make money, I use it to keep money.
