My mother still has this camera. Many of my childhood pictures were taken with this camera. Whenever I'm bored, I like to go through the box of old pictures and scan some to the computer.
This video has been so helpful! I found my dad’s Canon T50 that he took with him to Japan in my attic and I’ve been documenting my undergrad through film with it!
Let’s be clear on something. The camera might be a bit ugly. But, the .80’s was a kick ass decade. Nice video. I bought a T50 about a month ago at Goodwill and going to use it for my first time next week on vacation. Rock on!
Hi, thanks for your kind words, you are not alone in liking the camera, by far my most viewed video so there must be a lot of them out there, it's a capable camera and excellent lenses available at reasonable prices, have fun and enjoy, any problems please feel free to come back to me, be interested in how you get on ....
I bought one when it was released. Now I'm searching on the eBays for a nice one because I still feel how it feld and remember how it handled. Nice little camera.
The T90 cable release will work on that. There was also a shutter release button that screwed onto that socket. I have one but I find it sticks into my hand a but when holding the T90 horizontally.
I also purchased a T50 Canon from Goodwill and have my first roll of film in it and learning to use it. Your video was very helpful! Although it came with an optional 80 -200 mm zoom , I would like to get closer photos of wildlife. Can you suggest a bit more of a zoom that will work for this camera ?
Hi, sounds like you need a longer focal length lens or two, something in the 400-500mm range, check out third party brands for an FD mount version, unfortunately these are hard to find and prices are a bit steep, a teleconverter may work at a lower price and size, a macro lens or extension rings will get you closer also....
Hi, I’ve got a canon t50. Yet when I load the film, the film position stays on S and when I press the shutter/main button, it just beeps aggressively and the film doesn’t move? Can you help?
@@thephotographersbag T50 is a point and shoot with interchangeable lenses. Great viewfinder, very bright and easy to focus. Looking forward to using it. hi, I can't seem to wind the roll back in. I pressed that button you mentioned and I thought it was okay. but I opened the back and exposed some of the roll to light. what should I do ?
Hi, sorry to say but if film is exposed to light there is nothing you can do, it's important to rewind the film before opening the back, you will have lost some shots but the film in the cannister will still be ok.....
Hello. After putting in the film I pushed the shutter button. The motor drive didn‘t advance the film. The number 1 didn‘t come. The camera only beeps. Can you help me? Do you know what the problem is? Thanks in advance 🙋🏼♂️
Hi, does it work with no film loaded? How fresh are the batteries? Any sign of corrosion in the battery chamber? Has it worked previously or is it "new to you"?
I recently bought this camera and shot some pictures with it but when I got the film developed there was no exposure, is that because I set my iso wrong?
Hi, sorry to hear about your issue, did you set the ISO on the camera to the ISO of the film you were using? What film were you using? Did the camera operate properly, it may not have been advancing the film after each shot? Was the whole roll completely blank?
Hello, helping pay for my son’s college so we are going through a camera collection someone gave my son. We sold a broken T50 for $30 about a month ago. Batteries wouldn’t get it started with foil held in place as the door was missing. Today we found another one, door intact but batteries corroded inside. I got them out, cleaned it with alcohol, and it takes a photo. I also have the original box and all the paperwork inside. How much is that all worth, do you suspect?
Hi, thank you for this wonderful video! I followed it to the letter when I first got my Canon T50 and it worked perfectly for this first-time film shooter. I'm having some problems with the camera now, though, which breaks my heart, and I was hoping to ask for your help. When I load the film in, close the door, and click the shutter through to 1, the rewind knob doesn't move backward like it should, it just stays put. I'm pretty sure I'm loading the film correctly, the winder moves the film when I manually move it, batteries are working great when I do a battery check, the rewind button at the bottom of the camera seems to be moving. But the camera simply isn't taking the film. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? The camera was working fine for my first roll but now I'm encountering this problem. Thanks for your help and for the great video, I love your style.
Hi and thanks for your kind words, sorry to hear that you are having issues, open the back with no film in the camera, try taking a shot and make sure the film advance system is turning, if not then there is an issue, if it is turning then try reloading and see if it is taking the film, hope it's not too serious, please come back for more help....
Love this video!! Any clue why mine won't take film...I followed your steps to the T. Batteries are new. It was my husband's from when he was in highschool so he can't guarantee what's happened to it lol but any clues why mine just does a slight click and won't wind the film. Sorry this was so long 🙃
Hi, seems your example has some problems with film advance, it sounds as though it has been sat for many years, it may start to work after several attempts and a few gentle(rough) taps, failing this it becomes an ornament, they are plentiful and inexpensive, not worth getting repaired, let me know how it goes and good luck!

Hi! I've found a T50 at my house, but it seems that the batteries door is broken. Do you know if I can still salvage it? And the video was very helpful, thank you!!
Hi, it should open in the usual fashion, it may be stuck and require gentle persuasion, caused by deterioration of the light seal foam, else the release catch is not working properly, remove the bottom plate and release the back catch, work it repeatedly and clean up the foams, let me know how you get on....
Hi, there is a frame counter on the far right of the top cover, this shows the number of pictures taken, simply subtract this number from whatever film length you installed, 24 or 36 usually .....
Just bought one from a neighbor for 15£. Bought it for the lens, and I was surprised to find a roll of 35 color still in the camera. Unfortunately I can't develop it at the moment. Also I can't figure out how to rewind the film. Can someone help?
Hi, congratulations on your new camera, to unload the film, push in the little button on the bottom of the camera and then fold out the rewind crank (top left of the camera), and then turn in the direction of the arrow, usually clockwise, after a short while you will feel the effort becomes easier and should hear a sort of click, if you develop yourself then you may want to stop turning so as to leave the film leader out to make it easier to load a development spiral, if sending to a lab you can wind the leader back into the film cassette, open the camera back by pulling up on the rewind crank and remove the film, any problems please come back to me.....
@@thephotographersbag Hi! Thanks for the reply. I am seeing this comment after I attempted to rewind the film, unfortunately. I did not hit the rewind button on the bottom of the camera and I believe I damaged the film because when i was turning the crank it was unusually difficult, and when I opened the camera, I got a little bit of "film confetti" because of the shredded 'film ladder'.
