Been trying to decide if the 940 is worth it over the a300. This stuff is what they don't show on a lot of reviews. Not boring I appreciate the time and effort to inform others who are trying to decide before investing a good chunk of change into a new gun. Subscribed
I had the same issue. Only certain shells, even though they say 2 3/4 inch like the Winchester 00 Buck, will only load 6. Many others WILL load 7. I learned that the long way after getting it back from Mossberg. There's nothing wrong with your gun. Some shells are a fraction longer with the same size indications.
I wanted this shotgun as I have a mossberg pump an have had zero issues but seen so many problems with it so I'm gonna go with the Beretta a300 Ultima Patrol!
I have the Fix for this. I have the same gun and mine would only hold 6 but now holds 7. You must cut your spring, keep your mag tube your follower and the white plug as is and cut your spring to fit. It is a slow process just cut 1/2 or 1/4 coils at a time and then reassemble and test keep dong it until 7 rounds fit. Once you have the length correct on the end you just cut turn the cut end down and in just a bit with pliers and maybe file to get an end that does not gouge the white plug. My gun always fits seven and runs flawlessly it never malfunctions with any ammo including on the last round.
Had tha same issue w/mine, so I took the ext tube apart, inspected it, and reassembled. Then, I could only fit 4! Since that's the capacity of the native tube, I knewit was bindin-up somewhere, so I tookit apart again, and very carefully fed tha spring in. (Clearly, sum's ali'l off, where tha tube/extension meet, andit ain't an idiot-proof process, to get'em back 2gether properly.) During my research, I learned of the diff betwixt roll-crimped and star/fold-crimped shotshells. I'd initially been usin Rio 2 3/4" buckshot, and sure enuff, they were closer to 3". When I triedit w/some'a my star-crimped specimens, that did measure-out at 2 3/3", I could fit all 7, but, just barely. Curious that they sent u a longer spring. Since you're about 1/2 shell length shy of gettin all 7 in there, it might point to tha spring not bein properly seated in follower, or possibly the plastic piece at other end of spring? Although they seem helpful, whenit's ez, heard alotta bad stuff about Mossberg customer service, whenit comes to sendin guns back. No paid shipping, long turnaround times, and gun comin back as bad or worse, then when they were sent in. Seems like they claim not to understand what your issue is, and basically try to obfuscate, and generally wearu-down, hopin u'll just go away. This is prolly 1'a those things where yur gonna hafta roll-up your sleeves, n see ifu can sortit-out, yourself, unfortunately. Heard some ppl say backin the tube out 1/2-1 turn, then tightenin tha nut, fixed their issue, and other's've had success, cuttin down their springs (Carefully, and in small increments!) Some1 mentioned Wolff spring, but they don't list a mag spring for tha 940, so I'm not sure if they used'a 930 spring? I seem to've resolved my initial situ, but I still have yet to shootit, and I'm only just now seen all this negative stuff, after takin possession. Sadly, it kinda seems like Beretta waited 2c where Mossberg was gonna drop tha ball, and fixed those shortcomings, on the A300. (I mean, tha stupid plastic barrel clamp, alone, is mildly infuriating! C'mon, Man! Puttin parts on your gun, that don't hold-up, just to shave afew bucks off tha sticker price, really makes u look CHEAP, and begs tha question of where else did u try to sava nickel, or 2?) My original long-winded comment, seems to've disappeared, but... * GGG ext is only +2! They say their 930 ext's do not fit 940, but their 930 +3 extends 2 3/4" beyond the end of'a 18.5" 930 barrel. * Nordic fitment guide states their +2 ext is 1" shy of end of barrel, and +3 extends 1.5" BEYOND. * Choate doesn't specifically list the 940 on any of their extensions. (We can "assume" 930 ext's work, but...) Given what every1 elses' +3's are runnin, wazit ali'l "optimistic" to call an ext that's flush w/18.5 bbl, a +3? With careful ext assembly, and TRUE 2 3/4" shells, mine just barely fits all 7. I think tha junction of mag ext/main tube's a point of concern. Might run my insp cam down there, n see how they mate up. I guess if you're havin'a issue there, u'll more likely not be able to load more'n 4 rds. Curious that Mossberg sentu a longer spring. Makesu wonder if there is a REAL "right spring"? Given tha cost of springs, it seems like Wolff springs or possibly cutting your spring, incrementally, are tha least painful things to try...
@@joehardway on Mossberg official 940 page all the standard 940 models are 4+1 so I don’t know how they call that mag extension a +3. To make the pro 7+1. The ggg states +2 940. I’m wondering if it has enough room with the extra nut for the 1/2 needed to make the gun 7+1. I will try to call them this week. All my 940 pro needs to fit 7+1 is 1/2”. Which the ggg with the secondary mounting nut might gain.
I don't know if you noticed brother but on the mag spring receipt it says spx which is for a 930 spx not a 940 pro tactical that's why it's thinner and longer just saying 🤗😁 have a nice day 😁 again not trying to spoil it your day that is but if it works it works 😁😁😁

Cool. What brand and type of 2.75. Because all the stuff I have only fits 6. Can you be specific on the brand of 2.75 and payload. I want to buy exactly what you are saying fits no problem so I can see how it fits in mine. Thanks
I’ve taken this thing about so many times already lol trying different things. Even before I got the replacement spring. When I put it together I make sure the white retainer is on the spring before compressing the spring into the tube. I may take it apart a few more times and try things but seems like 2 springs same issue doesn’t fair well
@@BryanKulpanowski had same problem but I fixed it some shell are 1/8 longer times seven is close to inch I took a few coil off spring and shortened black cap inside mag tube I know you shouldn’t have to but mossberg won’t help with this problem you can also shorten the tip of the follower
ive looked at aftermarket tubes, probably using GGG, i have used them in the past and they make high quality parts, they also have a 940 kit worth looking into @@danvaccaro3335
Good to know. I haven’t had time to mess with mine yet. I still think I’m switching to a different mag extension altogether. When get time I’m going to measure it better and replace it.
im going to take some better measurements with that part in and out, and try to figure out what the issue really is. i still think the Choate mag tube is too short by 1/2" or so@@WVMountaineer
Seriously, not all 2 3/4 shells are that length. When you try inserting those that are longer, you have less space, thus, you can't load the manufacturers spec. Try measuring them. Make sense?
@@badideaman in one of these videos I measured 7 different standard 2-3/4” shells. Different load types. They were all the same size. About a 1/4” shorter than 3” slugs. If standard store brand Remington. Winchester. Federal 2-3/4” all measure the same what brand would be shorter?
@@BryanKulpanowski I went through this 2 weeks ago. Try the green and yellow box Remington mags, and the Olin, brown plain box. It worked for me! Have a great day!

I think the 940 has good value with a few upgrades.

I almost got the 1300.
I’ve had the same problem. The only shells I’ve been able to fit 7 so far have been the Hornady critical defense. Hope that helps.

Maybe the shotgun needs to be broken in and then it will get 7 in the tube. Also, try ghost loading it. Good video.
WOW, that's strange. I have the 940 Pro Tactical also. The 2 3/4" shells, it defiantly holds 7 in the tube easily! Love the gun.

Try loosing tube and load it then tighten to make sure spring is not hung up on white spring guide

Took the spring out and it barely fits seven with spring it only fits 6. The shooting is also so long I never know if it’s seated right

That would actually make the most sense. But the spring when compressed has a high chance of getting bent.
