For those who are confused There is a spot called the "Blind Spot" in your eye where the optic nerve is connected and there are no rod or cone cells and hence you are basically "blind" in that spot The reason why you don't see a black spot over there always is because your brain fills in that spot with details from the surroundings So when you are looking at the X you're blind spot covered his head and hence your brain automatically filled that blind spot with the orange background that was behind him, giving you the illusion that his head disappeared And when he moved the rod up and down your brain automatically filled that blind spot with the rod as the rod was in the surrounding then along with the background This may not be exactly correct this is what I've heard

Every eyeball has a dent in its optic nerve that doesn't receive light so we all have this one dot in our eyesight that is just our brain making inferences. Since face is too complicated to make up and put on our sight accurately our brain just puts what ever background is there. And since a bar is simply a line our brain can safely assume that the bar continues normally through our blindspot. You can simulate this another way by holding your thumb out and moving it about while your focused on something still, eventually, your thumb will dis appear. You're just not moving your face right.

So in reference to this trick when his head is in the blind spot your brain fills the gap with the colour of the wall because that is what is around it. When he uses the black bar only the middle of the bar is in the blind spot. So the brain uses the ends of the bar that it can still see and fills in the gap. So in reference to this trick when his head is in the blind spot your brain fills the gap with the colour of the wall because that is what is around it. When he uses the black bar only the middle of the bar is in the blind spot. So the brain uses the ends of the bar that it can still see and fills in the gap. So essentially what you perceive in the blind spot is just what your brain has assumed would be there.

the name of the effect is the Blind spot . Every humans have blindspots
so, if you close one of your eye, and you move towards to your screen and the another eye sees the cross, then you Will see the half the object. not the full object
