An absolute hidden gem. This is definitely one of their best tracks and one of the best synth pop songs ever . Dark, different and wonderful

I remember hearing this in the clubs back around 84 or so and found it so futuristic - Mind you, this was indeed way ahead of time.

My favourite Soft Cell song ever. They played it live in Glasgow a few weeks ago and I squealed, like the old Goth I am 💕

In my opinion one of their best songs, absolutely unique and fantastic - in the mid-eighties in the scene bars, when the first tones sounded, they stormed the dance floor and a murmur went around.
The people danced and the air burned, what an insanely awesome time it was in the goth scene back then - forever in my heart 🖤🍷

Mad. Manic. Martin! It was a 12” 45 extra with the Art of Falling Apart album. That version is 10 minutes long!

Any fans of their song "Barriers"? Another unexpected, brilliant song from them. B-side of one of the singles. I forget which now.

That audience is so boring. I would have been tearing up the dance floor, if I was in that crowd. This song rules!

Superb. Always a highlight for me on Art of Falling Apart, although it was faded out here about half way through! Strong use of repeated dialogue extracts as mood punctuation. The only other disquieting "film-related serial killer" pop song I can think of is Landscape's 'Norman Bates' (that was even a top 40 chart single, if I remember rightly!).

I am not sure about this, but I have always thought this song was based on George Romero's movie "Martin", so indeed a fictional character if that is the case. :)
