Right before the pandemic, the Mercedes franchise I worked for had taken a 17 CLS63 AMG S into inventory and the character of the engine and capability of the chassis had me absolutely in love. I was trying to figure out every way possible to try and afford it despite being a junior in college. Long story short, I got furloughed as a result of the pandemic and was heart broken to see it had sold when I was re-employed. There’s something special about AMG cars from this era.

This is literally my dream car, seriously, but I'd take a '12+ E550 4Matic sedan as well, as long as it had the AMG styling kit, that bi-turbo V8 is utterly ridiculous, a simple ECU tune can give upwards of 200hp and 200ft-lbs of torque ABOVE stock, let alone huge number increases from exhaust. Literally one of the most underrated and overbuilt engine platforms, plus it's a Benz with everything else included lol.
One of my dream cars is the final gen of the CLS 63S AMG. Its just such a beautiful and intimidating car. And that 5.5l is a masterpiece. I wanna go full Brabus and get that thing snarling
@@connordh89 I'd go watch some of AutoTopNL's videos with Brabus vehicles before you say that. I like their styling, but it looks like they're not delivering what they claim on HP and performance numbers.

I more so meant that I would use their list of specs and pick and choose from that and make it my own. They sure as hell know how to make them sound monsterous though. If you ever get one of MB's later bi-turbo V8's, Weistech. I believe their ECU tunes are the most beneficial, let alone their downpipes or aspiration upgrades. Their ECU tunes can hit 159hp and 322 pounds of torque OVER stock without anything else on a 2012+ bi-turbo....it's ridiculous. I should've picked up a 2012 E550 4Matic when I had the chance, ultimate sleeper
I remember first time going in one few years ago when it was the latest model. In my opinion perfect daily (if you can afford to run it) practical, luxurious, comfortable, sounds amazing and huge amount of power. We in the uk only had these in rwd
This car is the best machine overall you can get, of course comparing with other cars at that price range. The performance is absolutely there. Totally comfortable and top notch practically been a wagon that in my opinion looks so amazing. I love it 🤩

I have a few comments: - I’ve owned a 2016 one of these since nearly new, no issues with the suspension just yet. - No issues with anything else really as these things feel very reliable. Just had to get an oil level sensor cleaned at 20k miles. - I don’t think it weighs 4700 pounds, I think the manual says it’s just under 4200? - If you get one, it’s worth finding one with the self driving stuff on it, but not a deal breaker. - I can verify that at the 159mph limiter it is still pulling hard, I think the S goes up to 175mph. - Not sure I agree the cabin is quiet, compared to my e39 at least! But tyres make a big difference. - If you get one, you will love it.

Well I finally did it. Traded in my 2010 m3 for a 2014 e63s (not the wagon) wanted something with extra space for my little ones. It's so unbelievably fast just hope I don't miss how engaging the M3 was to drive.
Great review Ted! AMG wagons in general are going up in the US pretty much, you could try to find an older E63 wagon with the 6.2L instead maybe? see how you like it. I want to buy my buddies 1999 E55 wagon but its a project still the cheapest one in the country, i would love to restore it but i have an e-class sedan in the same body style that i have to get rid of first 😂
Great wagon das ist toll! The semi-active Air Suspension is awesome and just use Arnott replacement with an Indy - good for another 10 years! I daily a 2010 E550 (same W212) rwd V8 with air that is like a German train. I wanted a wagon but only V6s and I can’t throw down for an AMG lol.
I almost bought a w211 face-lift E500 wagon (so that I didn't get the stupid sbc module). I liked that sleeper vibe with the E220 badge on the bootlid 😁👍.

How long do you usually have a car for filming? Recent sub to your channel, kind of just discovered you and just curious what is involved in making a channel like this. This is definitely more capable with a more modern chassi and build but i would still pick the E39 M5 over this because that car is starting to become a semi modern classic and this is basically starting to show its age because it was built in a time when people started to want futuristic tech that is now outdated just a couple years later
@@TedwardDrives The E39 is guaranteed to be a desirable classic - it's the last of the nice BMWs. I wouldn't trade for this even if they were the same price.
It is not "unreliable" by any means. But it is not some immortal unbreakable Thors hammer thing. And when you need to replace a shock absorber - it is a $450 part, Because it is air-sprung and damping adjustable single part. As opposed to $40 regular oil shock absorbers used on non-air ride 2 litre diesel taxi version of these cars.
Really airmatic is a pretty simple and relatively cheap (as far as luxury car suspensions go) to maintain, the suspension you want to avoid on a mercedes is ABC lol
