Wonderful. I saw my first clear cut operation north of Atikokan ON when I was working as lead field technician for McGill Limnology (food chain studies/deforestation effects on Lake Trout) for twelve weeks, summer/fall~'94. Experiencing seeing clear cutting for the first time was brutal. It really leaves a nasty imprint in your memory.
Awesome! I'm so honoured that you guys pitched your tent on my septic bed a couple years ago to film. I got to know you a bit then - and I saw your passion. Now, I am watching the passion unfold, blossom. Never give that up. You have a talent (and more stories) to share - and that you must do.
Thank you for the kind words Kevin. It means a lot coming from you, I grew up watching your presentations as a kid and watching your videos. I’m glad that we got to know each other and look forward to getting to know you some more in the future! Thanks for having us that night we stayed on the septic bed and for filming with us; that weekend really triggered this passion of ours. And lastly, thanks for watching and sharing our posts whenever you can, the littlest things mean the most. Would love to work with you again in the future. 😊
Excellent video. Watched it before but just watched it again here on Boxing Day after reading the interview on Explore that my friend Frank Wolf interviewed you for.
What a lovely video portrait you've shared with viewers. I wasn't familiar with Temagami prior to watching the video. It was in my recommended list and I really enjoyed seeing some of Canada's beautiful landscapes. Your joy and passion for this area was quite evident throughout the film. I cried seeing some of the logging and old protest photos. I'm in Humboldt Co. Calif. and we have had similar issues here. Thank you for working to save what wilderness we still have.
Thanks for reminding me of the wonderful memories, I had the good fortune of spending every summer on the lake as a child. It looks the same, you sure had good weather.
Thank you so much Hailey, Mike, Hap and Andrea for capturing and sharing some of Temagami's magic! Many people who have never been to this beautiful place will be inspired by this film.
Thank you so much for creating this video. It turned out beautifully. Thank you Hap and Andrea for all that you do! Really hard to find words! So grateful that this video will bring greater awareness.
There's no better way to start a summer adventure like getting on Red Squirrel Road. It's unlike anywhere else. My gf & I (from Temiskaming Shores) go to Temagami at least 5 times per year. Such a sacred & beautiful slice of heaven 😊
This video brings tears to my eyes, such a beautiful land, yet I worry what Temagami be like 20 years from now. Hopefully this film will awake people's passion to care for and protect our wild environment. Let us not let politicians squander this area and others like it for their short term political gain. Well done Hap and Andrea. - Mike McIntosh
Thank you for the kind words Mike 😌 I think our biggest take from this is that not all fighting needs to be physical and hopefully this can still help make a difference. And as Andrea said, “Collectively we can all make a difference”. 🌲
Thank you to everyone that watched this! The live chat just ended so head over to our Wild Temagami facebook page and we will be giving away the final prize there. Thank you again and we hope you enjoyed this film! :)
Well done film. Temagami is such a beautiful area. I remember the protests and glad that something came out of them. Didn't know that Bob Rae supported the protest either. Cheers, Steve
Great video! Have not had a chance to paddle there yet but I hope to soon. Neat to learn more about the history of activism and direct action in the area. Also to see Bob Rae!
Makes we want to buy a drone. The problem is my hikes are multi-days in the remote wilderness, and a drone is just too heavy. My environment is also very hard on gear. Cheers from Alberta.
Stan Williams Would love for you to come by and see it, Temagami is a big part of my life and Markus, it’s going to be amazing. Will also be playing in the Cinema in my home town Ottawa , Ontario in April 2019. Thanks for your support buddy.
Wild Canoes 🛶Yes here are the details on it for my area. Advance tickets sold at: www.bytowne.ca/movie/paddling-film-festival-2019 Showtimes: THU, APR 25, 7:30PM SAT, APR 27, 1:30PM at: ByTowne Cinema 325 Rideau St Ottawa, ON K1N 5Y4
AWESOME! Make sure to message them and request that they play Wild Temagami! :) Although if they don't you can still vote for us on the back of the booklet that they give you.
I have such mixed feelings about videos like this. On one hand, beautiful depiction of a place I yearn for, the setting of almost all of my fondest memories. On the other... Shhhhhhhh, popularity all to often ruins things. Don't make it look too nice, lest it become Muskoka 2.0. Kidding, a bit.. Great video.
Took my American city-girl wife there in the mid-1990s; it altered her mind permanently, and brought her more in line with my mindset. She had never been in what we consider wilderness. At the time, the local bands were engaged in legal action so they could clear cut whatever they wanted. I see on google earth a lot of clear-cutting, so I guess they won the lawsuits.
Temagami is a special place and it's unfortunate the way things have turned out. But its definitely still got a lot to it, you just have to venture further in. Lady Evelyn is amazing.
Wild Canoes Temagami is near my wife’s home town of New Liskeard. She grew up camping in Temagami and Lady Evelyn. They are places dear to us. Hope to take our kids to Temagami for a canoe trip. Met Hap Wilson in New Liskeard in 2004 at a book signing for his Temagami Canoe routes book. My cousin owns the book shop there.
Wow thats so cool! Hap is such a cool and amazing person, glad you got to meet him. #KeepTemagamiWild and I hope you get to take your kids there some day :)
I just cant understand why anyone would anyone want to be apart to destroy a place like this ??? or try to put a monetary value on logging anything close to this beauty ,, What is wrong with us , thank god that there are people like yourselves and all the people who did stand up for something witch is all to frequently lost to greed... is a major oversight by us happening all over the world ,, we need to fight the greedy monsters, this beauty should be our inherent right for the sake of humanity ,something to enjoy and keep sacred for future generations to appreciate and preserve, the Nature it is something we need for our souls to shine and not to be sold like a museum piece that we have to pay for . sorry for the rant but its the truth ,, when will we learn ???
Here's the song that was written and recorded for Temagami back two decades ago featuring the incredible Long John Baldry, Dianne Heatherington, Virgil Scott and a host of other very talented souls. I would have loved to have gifted it to this production; www.reverbnation.com/brianjamieson/song/5418328-deep-water-lake
Hmm, certain parts of Temagami would be hard but look online at ottertooth and join Facebook groups and ask! I’m actually not much of a Temagami paddler yet either haha, so I’m still learning more about the place too!
An easier place to start would definitely be Algonquin but there are simple parts of Temagami too, you just have to ask around and find the right places 😊
It’s Hap and Andrea Wilson’s Eco-Lodge, but yes you could :) message them for more details! If you google their Cabin Falls Eco-Lodge or look them up on Facebook you could ask them for more info/details :)
I remember my first time hand falling big timber was in the Temagami. Even though I’m a logger I think It shouldn’t be developed for tourism and cottage’s. Just responsible selective cut logging and trapping:hunting/portaging.
Very beautiful! Glad I found your channel. Me and my Norwegian Buhund is going on a 2 weeks canoe-trip this summer, and this is very inspiring stuff. Check out my channel if you wanna see some hiking in the Norwegian nature. Thanks for sharing. :-) -Håkon & Ulf
does anyone that actually grew up in Temagami have mixed feelings about this video, especially when they show the portion of protesters in Toronto in the 90's, "Temagami Chainsaw Massacre". Just curious.
I think that people that grew up there and relied on logging as a career to feed their families would definitely not agree with this. Obviously. But I think the message about protecting the wilderness in Temagami from mining and logging is so much more than protests and activism. So many places and wildlife have been affected negatively from logging and mining. The big picture being that it destroys natural environments and the wildlife living there, this can’t just go on forever. Protests help and every little thing counts but through word of mouth no one listens, hence why we made this documentary with two people that are leaders of an environmental group that actually participated in those protests back in the 90’s.
Thank you for making this.
Cheers,
- Martin
Thank you! :)
Fabulous video!. Temagami is my favorite part of Ontario.
Thank you!!
Really enjoyed this documentary. Beautiful country that needs to remain wild and free.
Thank you so much for watching! Such a special place ☺️
Temagami has an energy that is hard to deny. Everytime i drive by i want to stop there and stay forever.
It definitely sucks... it's unfortunate that nothing seems to be able to help and that our voices aren't heard.
Awesome! I'm so honoured that you guys pitched your tent on my septic bed a couple years ago to film. I got to know you a bit then - and I saw your passion. Now, I am watching the passion unfold, blossom. Never give that up. You have a talent (and more stories) to share - and that you must do.

This video brings tears to my eyes, such a beautiful land, yet I worry what Temagami be like 20 years from now. Thank you! And it is definitely time to visit, tag us in any pictures you may take when you visit; #wildtemagami or #keeptemagamiwild

Nicest place I've ever seen.
Great job guys.

Great video! Have not had a chance to paddle there yet but I hope to soon. Neat to learn more about the history of activism and direct action in the area. Also to see Bob Rae!
Thanks for watching! It’s definitely a special place, 100% recommend it! So much activism history in those two!
@@WildCanoes I recently got one of Hap's books as well as a map so I'm starting to cobble together some ideas for a trip. Cheers!
Nice!! You’ll love it, have fun trip planning!!
Makes we want to buy a drone. The problem is my hikes are multi-days in the remote wilderness, and a drone is just too heavy. My environment is also very hard on gear. Cheers from Alberta.
Yeah they are pretty fun. But they are heavy, it was a sacrifice we are glad that we made. Thanks for watching :)

Kidding, a bit..
Great video.
Hahaha, I think it’s too remote to ever become that. It helps that it’s a more advanced park and a lot less beginner friendly (aka Algonquin)
I'd love to live in Temagami and do what you guys do that place is sacred
Love this going up it 6 days
very very good...
I am from New Liskeard and your video is just amazing wow very sweet

Sacred place on our planet ..
Hi! I’m new to canoeing and was wondering if would be a challenge to canoe in Temagami? Thanks in advance.

Dedicated to no industry! Dedicated to no youth staying! Village based on tourism only 300 people in with 1500 in summer, good job
