Eun Woo's character in this is totally different from True Beauty. Here he is an innocent prince who is head over heels for the leading lady. He's cute, funny, immature and kind. So I dont get it when people say he only knows how to play the cold guy roles. Seriously please watch this show. Hopefully he'll get more of this kind of lively roles in the near future.

I watch this drama after True Beauty and I have same thinking. His role in Rookie Historian is differ from True Beauty, it’s more intersting feeling watching him as cute and immature like this hahaa

One of the best kdramas i watched.
This drama is light, sweet and fun to watch. There is no second lead syndrome also, tragic or extreme dramas between every characters. Story line is perfect and interesting with surprising twists yet strong and meaningful.
Talking about characters and roles, everyone is fit in their character. For instance, prince dowon Yi Rim is innocent, free-spirited, silly, extremely kind but smart which cha eun woo portrayed very well he showed his versatility here indeed a great actor he is.
whereas, Goo Hae Ryung is smart, intelligent, strong-willed, rebellious, brave but kind and comprehensive which shin se kyung is perfectly fitted in this role as her top notch acting did it once more. Overall, everyone like king, grandmother, father, officers, historians specially eunuch also did well. So, i like every characters and their development.
prince dowon and goo hae ryung's interactions and moments makes your heart flutter. Even though there is less romance, their sweet gestures and sweet moments will be just enough. Their relationship is humble and moreover there is no toxic relationship. Lastly, eun woo smile melts you and stops your breath for once lol. Also, soundtracks are very beautiful.
So, I highly recommend all of you to watch this drama. To me it is 10 out of 10.

I am so glad they picked Eun-woo to play this role. He fits the personality of Prince Dowon, very charming, intelligent, kind, considerate, gentle, and soft-hearted. I love it. Their relationship is just so sweet to look at. I cannot express how much I love this coupke ever since I started watching Rookie Historian. Such a beautiful romance story. The best one in historical k-drama history.
Cha Eunwoo’s portrayal of a naive but intelligent and brave young prince is perfect! This portrayal of an overly sheltered prince grabbed my attention as he grew more mature in each episode… he deserved to win the best actor award for this drama

The Prince who is kept hidden was played by a great actor. His facial innocence and arrogance is endearing. He’s naive because he’s kept away from the real world. But that doesn’t mean he’s stupid.
When called upon to make decisions, he makes them very thoughtfully.
Again, a great actor who could portray his pain and loneliness and seeking approval of his father, and his great bond with the Crown Prince.
This is an underrated gem.

Goo hae-ryung was one of the coolest, most inspiring characters that I've seen in a drama in a long time
The epitome of a sensitive, fair, smart, yet hard willed woman with a bludgeoning humour... really hard not to love her... pretty interesting though than in one of her interviews ssk mentioned she is the character she resembles the most personality- wise.
She's so beautiful and he's so handsome 😭❤️ Not a fan of Cha eun woo but I'm rooting for them in this drama! They're such an eye candy to watch. Such a perfect pair!
This is so nice drama, a 6 year age gap, a young man who just who was inlove for the first time, who doesnt know how to express his love hehe thumbs up with cha euon hehe. More rom com drama for him pls
Actually the character was like this. The male character was imprisoned in a particular area with few people so he has no idea about the outerside and he acted so well his character.
This drama shows how much Eunwoo has evolved & grown as an actor. I feel like a proud mama. Watching this makes me watch it for the 3rd time

This goes to shows how a character is written really affects how the actors portray their roles. For example I disliked shin se kyung's character in bride of habaek but here she's absolutely wonderful!

Pls i really love this drama... the story has a great plot, the leads has a good chemistry they're so fun to watch!!! and also their characters, i love eunwoo and sekyung's character here. Eunwoo is so bubbly and childish but he is also a precious, sincre and thoughtful man while sekyung potrays a woman who is not scared just because she is only a woman. She is so brave to speak and do what is right. I miss them :(

Ppl who keep saying he acted better in this than gangnam ID n true beauty . You do realise all three characters r written differently . Do kyeong so was cold but warm inside always see through others only mirae knew him well . Suho had many layers he was cold outside and had walls around him he was depressed, self hating and had pushed away everyone till jugyeong came in his life.
Here he is prince who falls for lady immature, kind , naughty , still you will see his mature decision in further episodes.
All characters r different and he aced all the roles if you go according to script . You can't expect him act like prince in role of do kyeong so or suho or vice versa.
Finally, an Academy Ward Asian movie that has everything! Love , Suspense, Educational, lighting, wardrobes, history, Happy Ending. Loved this !! And no additional episodes to wait on. Thx You Tube. More movies like this.
Wish there were more like this. We viewers are lucky if we get one like this a year. Most of the time I have to stop and start other series just to see something.
I’ve been spoiled by the really good series like CLOY, Under The Queen’s Umbrella, A Korean Odyssey, Alchemy of Souls, etc.

I feel that Cha is more expressive and behave in love in this drama than in Gangnam. He behaved naturally in this drama but more like acting in Gangnam.
I think Gangnam ' s character was cold hearted so it was necessary to not express more emotions but this character is like a little growing prince who just entered in outer world. He did a great job according to characters

I watched this kdrama at first i was boring but then in the following episode I LIKE IT🥰💜👏👏👏👏 indeed he is so innocent prince here and she is beautiful.
Some parts are boring but most of the scenes and dialogues are great. The chemistry between the leads is great too.

I loved this drama so much. I saw this after Gangnam Beauty. Rookie was where I really started to appreciate Eun Woo’s acting, he was excellent in this and the story was so gripping and multi layered!

This is a great drama. I enjoined every scene and can't realise when it ended. Love the female character who is a strong person. The male lead actor is so cute.. Especially his eyes are beautiful.

This was a great and well-balanced drama. Complexity in the characters, no ridiculous love triangles, shows the struggles of women who want to make something of themselves during a very sexist time, shows great sibling relationships (Do won & crown prince, Hae Ryung & her brother), shows political corruption & power plays, and the interconnection with your environment and whatever is happening in the world.
