One thing I loved about the east coast was all the rock walls on the old farms and homesteads, but I never thought about how it must have driven farmers crazy with all the rocks everywhere. Great video!
I'm from North Dakota, but lived in Norwich, CT for about a year after high school. Now I'm south central MN. Watching all the awesome channels on TH-cam, including this one, too learn all I can before buying my dream farm. Working towards it now and in the mean time, teaching my children to garden as much as I can.
I like those pigs. I gave a shout out to your channel last night on a couple of live you tube homesteaders, I watch hope it helps to spread the word about your channel. Love the video I know they will be happy campers in the new pen. tyfs Pat
Hi. Thank you AL for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden nice to see you. I love watching your videos bye 👋 bye 👋 👋 👨👩👧👸👕👓🐩🐈🐔🐓🐕🐖🐐🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
fantastic job guys at Lumnah Acres !! cracking job folk, the pigs are going to be so happy in there new home you've given them such a massive environment they'll be happy as a 🐖 in mud !! lol and just think of all that stuff in the old pen you can dig into the soil and plant some lovely vegetables !! thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences and as always happy gardening and homesteading !!
After watching my husband digging with the post hole digger and/or shovel, and sweating in this Florida heat, I got him an Auger !! Putting up and taking down the pig pen is a lot of work. That makes it a bit easier. (of course we are older than you LOL). We only do one pig at a time. Still have so much pork in the freezer from our January Yorkshire. Best pork I have ever tasted. I need to render down some more pig fat into lard for my soap making. I Mix lard with coconut oil and sometimes a bit of olive oil to get the percentage of oil that i need. (P.S. Yorkshires need a shady area, so I learned. She started to get sun burned on her tips of her ears. I had to put some aloe gel on her ears and we had to put a cover over that end of her pen). Looks like your pigs are loving their new area!!
Thanks! I bet the auger is nice! Yes all pigs need shade, they don't sweat either. We need to render more lard too, but for cooking with! That sounds like a great soap recipe! We need to make some homemade soap
I am always impressed with how much you accomplish during your week despite having FT jobs off of the homestead, dealing with the rain yet still have time to spend with family and friends. Love watching your videos.
I get the warm fuzzies every time I see you and Olivia doing projects together. I grew up on a small dairy farm and was always with my Dad doing something. I learned a lot from him just by holding something for him or going after a certain tool. I sure loved my Daddy!! I can see that your daughter adores you also.
Thank you! It warms my heart thinking of the memories we are building with her! And I hope it brings back good memories for you too! It sure sounds that way!
That was a lot of work for a gate. I use T-posts, a cattle panel section and a panel connector from Premier1 Supplies. Makes a great gate and all you need is to knock those T-posts in. Premier1 is the only place that sells the connectors.
Fun video. I had to help my daughter move pigs from the barn and they refused to go out , I think it was because of the sunlight . In the end we had to carry two then got the idea to put them in a wagon what a day that was! Keep up with the vlogs 👍
gee, Al, you make it look so cool - having those 2 lovely assistants of course helps! - but you make me want to have pigs! which in town is not an option, but who knows, may be in 5 years, for my 65th birthday present........ 😚
Lumnah Acres pigs, chickens, a duck and goats, may be sheep, we'll a tiny farm in short with a few cats and a dog or 2 ....... so far I have my garden! 😊
do you have a rock pile someplace too? you seem like you are that organized, lol. what is the funniest, strangest thing you have dug up or found on your property? the sound is really carrying and bouncing back today, it must be your location! i found several tractor supply stores with 70 miles of me, the hubster and I will be taking a road trip this winter I'm thinking. Great video today, thank you for all your hard work putting these videos out. Don't forget to get some sleep.
No I don't have a rock pile! Lol. I am not that organized! Lol. Our old place we found an old jeep willey in the woods. What kind of tractor? Sleep whats that! Lol
You also need we we call in the south, a “Dolly bar”. It was used on railroad beds to install and repair track. It has a “flathead “ like a flat head screwdriver on one end, and a tamper head on the other. Its about 6 feet long, made of cast iron and weighs about 20 lbs,but we use it for all our post setting, root digging, and other stuff. Indispensable!
You have inspired me to get a couple of small pigs (kune/AGH mix- 3 months old) and I too built a small pen, but after a week I am realizing they need more room. I have a 3 acre pasture, but they are too small yet and can squeeze thru the fence, so hopefully they will grow a bit and I can let them loose in the pasture and the pen will be their home for the night. I have a donkey who is very interested in them now, but I'm not sure how she will be when they are loose in the pasture with her!
That is awesome! Congrats on the Pigs! Keep us posted on how you like that breed! I bet the donkey will like them. Just try to keep them close but not together for a few days! Let them get to know each other
Great video. i need to build a pen like that for my future pig. i wasnt sure how to do the electronic fence but you made it look easy to install. oh btw i hate those t post fence connectors. i can never get them on right. lol.
Piggies look happy, they sure didn't waste any time getting to rooting around. You do a great job demonstrating, and explaining, what, how and why. Oh and Bacon!!!
Excellent work from all of you and the pigs look thrilled with their new home and seem keen to already start rooting through the soil. They're looking great and they've certainly grown. As always, I'm impressed at how well you've planned it all, in terms of pen and pasture. I 'm looking forward to seeing your new dandy pig feeder put into actiion as well :)
As you have _New Yolk City_ and _New Pork City_ I always think of the battery unit for these as _Thyme Square_ and that it would be neat if you had lights attached to the fences to emulate that. You could have a different string of lights for the pigs and the poultry to see at a glance if the fences are powered up :)
you need a post hole digger . Even better a post hole attachment for your tractor. t post driver is well worth the expense. love the shirts . im looking for an artist to create a farm logo for FOXHOLE WAY FARM.
Gr6 job! You showed it all. Are you worried about the pigs getting their noses under the gate and lifting it off the hinge? Might turn the top one down?
After videos on politics and everyday grief, I search out my favorite channel! I am too old to start a farm but I love to learn and this video was packed with info! Thanks for posting! I don't know what the white wire covered box was that you use for the pigs house. Where did you get it? It's winter of '19 that I watched this but I thought of a couple of names for a boy and girl pigs, Porky snd Bess. I don't know where I heard those names b4 but they are custom made for piglets.
Ahhhh, the piggies look so happy! I absolutely agree - say no to factory farms. I only buy from local farmers who raise their animals ethically. I prefer my money go towards people who are not part of factory farming. Money seems to rule this world, so fight back with how you spend your money! I hope you will eventually grow to be able to supply others in your area. 😊
hi good morning beautiful 👪 family what's up is those 🐷 pigs are jamming hi Mr. Biggs, nice hearing you. Another great video the homestead is just looking awesome and better and better every day thanks for sharing your wonderful videos with us in subscribers land . thanks for the tips there appreciate, good afternoon Gina and Olivia 😍 love always. keep up the good work your doing with the videos and the homestead God bless bye 👋 bye 👍👍🐓🐔🐣🐖🐷🌿🌱🌽🌾🏡🚜
Pretty cool!! I'm sure there gonna be excited to get out there. Do you ever worm your pigs? I've been using DE in there feed and gonna start adding apple cider vinegar to their watered too.
Thanks for subbing! We aren't setup here with the facilities to raise sows all year round have piglets here. We can get some pretty nasty winters.Hopefully some day.

I just couldn't do it. I couldn't raise something like my own child and then slaughter it. It's why I stick to free-roam, pasture raised beef and pork. I suppose I'm kind of a hypocrite since I basically just can't do the dirty work, but something about allowing an animal to trust you then killing it really disturbs me as I think about it.
Do your self a favor if you doing a bunch of temporary fencing with t posts and get your self a t post driver. Much easier on your hands and your t posts
I don't like factory farms for myself but I understand there are a ton of people out there that can't afford pasture food plus the low life's on handouts so I think we gotta have factory farms and gmo or a lot of folks just won't make it.
Is it just me, or is it that from your first video until today, you start getting more and more similar to Justin Rhodes in looks and way of talking ???
I have finally warmed up and gotten more comfortable with the Modern Steaders. It takes some time to get used to putting your families life out there. We hope you are enjoying the daily videos
I see that you use a sledge hammer to drive in your fence posts, my neighbor made a post driver out of a piece of pipe. Here is a link to another homesteader who made one similar, might be a litter easier and faster to use something like this. I am new to your channel and love your videos. Here is the link montanahomesteader.com/diy-post-driver-metal-fence-posts/
Very good share with willing help from Gina and always smiling Olivia...Great Job!
Yes! Thank you! It was great having there help
Y'all just make me smile. Another interesting video. You do "everyday farm chores" that not everyone has been exposed to but are good to know. Thanks.
Thank you! We enjoy taking everyone along with us! We haven't always been able to have animals. Glad we can now
One thing I loved about the east coast was all the rock walls on the old farms and homesteads, but I never thought about how it must have driven farmers crazy with all the rocks everywhere. Great video!
I couldn't imagine removing and stacking all those rocks by hand! Where are you from? Thank you!
I'm from North Dakota, but lived in Norwich, CT for about a year after high school. Now I'm south central MN. Thanks! We can't wait to turn all the bedding into compost! Yes, all the amazing things that we will be able to grow is going to be EPIC! :) Lol
I wonder if you could run lines from tree to tree like that for a vineyard or hop yard, instead of the standard posts usually used?
Another great video! Love to hear all the poultry noises in the background. It didn't take long for those 'swine tillers' to get going!
Thanks! It is crazy how fast they got to work!
After watching my husband digging with the post hole digger and/or shovel, and sweating in this Florida heat, I got him an Auger !! Putting up and taking down the pig pen is a lot of work. Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed it! Happy Pigs great Bacon!
Love hearing the "water bubber"......... being from Sturbridge, Mass but now from St. Johnsbury, VT - it's nostalgic and rare. lol
Lol. You are just about a neighbor living in St J
yes we are! And make that bubbler!! lol I am very interested in seeing how your Icelandics do - they may have to be in our future too.

Oh, that is a good one Thyme Square! Lights would be fun
Gr8 job! You showed it all. Are you worried that the pigs might get their nose under the gate and lift it off the hinges? Might aim the top one down?
The pigs didnt last year! Lol we will see what happens this year! :) Thanks!
Nice video, Subed you and I'm looking forwarded to see more videos.
Thanks!
That looks like really good loam.
In that a pasture area it seems that way! Most of the yard is a gravel pit!
you need a post hole digger . Even better a post hole attachment for your tractor. t post driver is well worth the expense. love the shirts . im looking for an artist to create a farm logo for FOXHOLE WAY FARM.
Thanks! We do! Lol. Love the name!
Happy pigs for sure. That is awesome.
Thanks! We love making our pigs happy! It makes better bacon! :)
time for an auger attachment on the tractor! :)
That would be nice!
Gr6 job! You showed it all. Are you worried about the pigs getting their noses under the gate and lifting it off the hinge? Might turn the top one down?
Sorry for dbl post. It didn't show the 1st one.
Lol No worries!
Never thought of doing the gate first. That makes more sense.

Wow ! Where could I get a Lumnah Acres Shirts really loving on the design 👍🏻👍🏻
lol, I was about to ask the same thing. Please let us know where you got your t- shirts printed.
We need to place an order! Lol. The design will be the logo. The shirts we wear are 2 years old! Lol
We will let everyone know! We are trying to figure out what to do!
Is Publix and Aerosmith on company or different ones?
Lumnah Acres: Publix is a major grocery chain headquartered in Lakeland, Florida.
Why don't u leave the pin up year round. Just wondering
Rotate pastures, last year's pen is now a squash garden, this year's pen will be a garden next year.
David Johnston Thanks for letting me no
David Johnston does he sell one of the pigs or eat both of them
That is a question you would be better to ask of Al. I'm not sure what his plans are for them in that regard.
It is in a new location
hi good morning beautiful 👪 family what's up is those 🐷 pigs are jamming hi Mr. Biggs, nice hearing you. Thank you! Good evening from NH! :)
Dang! Why is NH so rocky! I always feel bad when you have to dig.😢 It’s a nice place for the piggies though😻
Would you consider raising a beef cow?
Wow-- well it's after mom's day in 2018. And Olivia has grown so tall!!! Oh my, amazing, it's all that healthy air and home grown food... 💞🌺💞💞
Nice job, those are some long pigs should get lots of bacon.
Thanks! Oh we hope so!
Pretty cool!! I'm sure there gonna be excited to get out there. Do you ever worm your pigs? I've been using DE in there feed and gonna start adding apple cider vinegar to their watered too.
The breeder wormed them and then we give them DE too! They sure are loving the pasture
Nice !
Love your channel and I just subscribed! I am wondering why you don't breed the pigs so that you don't have to purchase them again and again?
Thanks for subbing! We aren't setup here with the facilities to raise sows all year round have piglets here. We can get some pretty nasty winters.Hopefully some day.
15:00 Hahahaha duno why so funny
Lol
Wheres your hat?
its a nice hat
Thanks! It was so hot and humind I had to take it off a few times! Lol
Your pigs seem to have grown. Do you REALLY leave for 2 days? (without your pigs?) You need a piggsitter.
We have left and have some one come over and feed them
Oh Whew! I was like, 'don't lead others to leave animals without their person! Thank you for confirming this part. Cheers.
YW! :)
lol. It took me time to figure out what YW is. Then, I opened the whole chat. LOL. Goodnight from Mountain Standard Time.
you should out hog nose rings in so they can't root out
We want them to root! The electric fence will keep them in
What is your last names country of origin please?
I just answered that! For you! It will be in Wednesdays Video! Great question. but there is a story! Lol
I can't wait! Thanks!
Yw! Thanks for the question!
Al I have tried your firtiizer secret my wife thinks I'm crude but you can't argue will the results
LOL! If it works it works! Just tell her the CRAZY Modern Steader told you! LOL

Have you thought about goats? Your property seems much better suited for goats right now.
We have and we do want some. But right now we don't have the time. We want dairy goats. Once one of us is home full time we will! And yes I think they would love all the brush!
👍 👍
I can't help but be sad watching this. The pigs trust you.
I don't know why but that makes me incredibly saddened.

I'm surprised, your soil looks really sandy.

I do, but that was just a thought ...

I see that you use a sledge hammer to drive in your fence posts, my neighbor made a post driver out of a piece of pipe. If you decide to make one yourself, I would love to see a video of your version.
