What surprises me the most was not only was the reception better. But, the color was a lot nicer, not all washed out a such. Nice comparison of receivers. Good job🙌
Light stands work great to hold receivers antennas etc. The are light-duty but extend your equipment up around 10 feet, and they are MUCH cheaper than tripods designed to hold a camera, because lights don't have to be that stable. Running a ground station also allows you to use 1200MHz which BURNS through everything.
Hi mate. I recently bought a tbs discovery .with a full ground station and fat shark goggles set up .quad and camera all work and my screen works .but when I turn it all on all I get on my screen is the fat shark Chanel logo and no live feed picture .got my head baffled trying to sort this out any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks .paul h
What cables did you use to connect goggles to external receiver? 3.5mm jack male to male? Or 3.5mm jack to av jack female and male av back to 3.5mm male jack.
i am a bit curious why did the ground station picture look darker? it seems the colors changed a bit too? would you do another one to show this time both single and diversity? looking for it ! thanks for sharing. tommy
I know this video is quite a few years old, but what do people do today? I ask because I am learning and I have ev800 and a tinyhawk s. It flys great but the feed is bad once it gets about 20-30 feet away and goes around a tree. Should I change the antenna or get a full ground station. Also, what kind of ground station should I get if I should go that route?
Great comparison, quite a difference even without diversity, it would be interesting to see how much better the helical would be. Now I've got more stuff to add to my shopping list!
I come from a drone filming background so I'm used to crystal clear signals. To me that signal even with the groundtsation looks unflyable. Is that just the transmitter being bad then?
Hey stu. I have a problem. I bought these cheap fpv goggles. I had a few flights with the eachine wizard x220 then one time I switched the goggles on on but since then they would just not connect. So I bought another pair of goggles and they also didn't connect. If you have any idea what it could be please tell me. Thanks
What kind of cable do you need to go from the goggles to the ground station? I used a headphone jack that has 3 sections on the end and it did not work for me. How many sections do you need on the end, does it matter? My goggles did switch to black screen when I plugged it in, but I could get no picture no matter what outlet I plugged it into on the ground station? I have the same Rx, the FR632
Say you buy a better antenna for your drone, will that antenna work for both the goggles and the drone?? In other words is the antenna universal to the drone and the goggles.
+UAVfutures thcks, for my 1st set of goggles i was leaning towards the eachine ev800s but knowing there is no av input. I think ill go more the quanum v2 route and get a good receiver. Im on a budget. U have any used goggles you want to sell? LOL
An antenna extension would not introduce latency, but it would weaken the signal (probably significant). A longer A/V cable should have no effect though.
Great video, so now the burning question is, which is the best ground station receiver out there? I have tried the Aomoway, and the boscam and neither one worked as well as my fatshark module. One more question, can you still use the DVR built into the goggles if you are using the video in jack on your goggles or do you have to purchase a separate DVR as well?
I'm having a hard time getting my goggles to get a picture on 200mw. It works on 25mw just fine but as soon as I put my VTX on 200 or more, I just get a black screen on my goggles. Sometimes it works, but then it stops working when I change batteries on the drone, and I have no idea why?
Had the same problem. It was because I had my vtx (eachine tx5258) attached to the 5V port of my Racerstar F4s FC instead of a higher voltage. Soldered it now directly to the Battery cable and it's working just fine on higher power levels like 250mW 800mW etc.
tip: stop switching your vision from what you are holding to the camera so frequently. Decide on one to look at more often and occasionally glance at the other object.
I have the Dom v3 if I use an external receiver (I have a spare skyzone 32 channel) can I leave the Fatshark receiver in the goggles and do I need to still connect an antenna to the goggles if I leave the receiver in it while using an external receiver
Stew, I got my fatsharks recently with a diversity module. I am having serious problems with losing video with almost every obstruction, from turning my head, to turning the quad and blocking the signal with the carbon, and everything in between: trees, bush, rotten children... Is there something I am doing wrong? Some eachine 007's receive the video without any dropouts in the same area. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!
I have fatshark dominator v2 and i had the fatshark diversity module on it.. . i had exactly the same problem as you, i took it out and went to the nexwave single antenna module that i used previously. Now i use the foxeer circular polarized antenna on both my quad and the glasses (essential in my experience to have two matching antennas of the same brand on both ends.. ) For my vtx i use the IRC tramp at 600mw and my range is pretty insane and most of the time crystal clear. With the tbs vtx it would be even better maybe, I hope this helps you :)
I ended up putting a new Circular antenna on, along with a IRC Patch, for the most part my video is better but still a little choppy in some areas. Might consider upgrading my VTX at this point. Thanks for your input mate!
Good one mate. The first Aussie one I've found gre work. I know it's lame but I have a bebop 1 with a bebop 2 on its way, in process of figuring out a build for a racer. Really want to try Mr Steal's new motors. Anyway wanted to know 2 things can I mount an antenna on my Bebop 1 or 2? And do you know of a way to attach a high gain antenna to a phones circuit board to use it purely for FPV not as phone? I ask because I can't find anything and as I pull a heap of phone apart I was thinking it must be possible. Cheers Gus
Angus Whitehouse not sure how this video ended up in my feed but I can definitely answer this question. My channel used to have a ton of Parrot A.R. drone videos on it. I had a mod called a "big wheel antenna" on the drone which significantly improved range. Some people modified their android tablets with high gain antennas to antennas so improve video. The main problem is that both control and video was over WiFi, which has terrible range compared to today's standards. There are a few forums out there dedicated to parrot drones, but I would just skip that toy altogether. Get something real to fly. Also, Steeles motors might be great, coming from a bebop, but they won't make you fly any better. Try a drone simulator...seriously.
+Zack Christopherson Im honestly blown away with the amount of support and positive feedback I am getting. Everyday when I open my youtube I see a bunch of msgs and questions. I feels great to be helping so many people. I think short, concise videos are so much better for everyone involved. A lot of this information is already out there. Im just trying to condense it. Less time learning = more time flying : ) thanks for the feedback Zack
I use this same TX on the FIRST quanum goggles if the screen was a lil better it would be all I use I also use the 3 turn and a circular.. And the circular antenna stands well over my Head and the 3 turn directional is pointed in the main flying direction.. And this cheap reciever is amazing, and I've had mine for over a year and it's as Good as most expensive ground station setups
Flying in Florida you are more often than not challenged by flying through thick wet foliage and that's where this really shines is in the penetration game
Is this a true representation of what it looks like through the goggles? (ignoring immersion) Thanks for all the videos you put up by the way, they're awesome. I'll be using a couple of them to help with my first diy quad in the next week or so when the final parts arrive.
+PlaneCrazy some setting on the lap top for the cheap dvd capture card. There is like 8 Pal settings to cycle through and some NTSC ones. It looks normal my goggles but looks really purple on the dvr
Thanx man, great, straight forward vids, really helpful.Liked n subbed.Do you know of any way of plugging in several diversity receivers to a central hub that switches between the strongest signal, so they can be spread out more to cover more ground? The options I've seen(HK etc)seem to lack the ability to spread out the antennas.Thanx heaps if able to reply but no stress
+UAVfutures no probs, cheers for quick reply.I have a1acre block in Adelaide hills(think Chad novaks place in Qld)almost perfect for fpv and thinking would still be cheaper than the mega dollar digi HD connex gear.Gonna investigate ripping open and modding an existing one.Thanx again and keep up the good work
That's great, but you don't want too good reception, especially if you don't have great range with your control transmitter. Remember if you are going large distances or with objects getting in the way, when you are losing video signal you will also be losing control transmitter signal. And if you can't see exactly where your little vehicle is, it can fly away very quickly and get out of range. Ideally you want it so that when you are beginning to lose video signal, you still well inside your control transmitter range, so you know you need to turn around and start heading back (or towards wherever the video signal is getting clearer if you are a bit lost).
+RIDERZcouk Sorry yeah about how vague that sounds. Inside the diversity it has a lot more going on, the fat shark receiver, while super small, has to sacrifice some things to fit in such a small space. Your head is full of water. the Brain has an awful lot of water in it. like 70% or something. and water is one of the most effective things at absorbing 5.8ghz radio signals. SO this results in your head actually blocking a lot of the FPV feed when it fly around and your brain gets between the quad and your goggle receiver.
+UAVfutures Yes, I have the Attitudes V3 and they were shipped without face plate. The rubber eye things kinda hurt and were uncomfortable, so I got one. It's a lot better.
Its much bigger so there more in there?? Really? What is the heck kind of logic that? Everybody at the races do not use ground stations. If they do its not a fr632. Try a Immersionrc duo. Theres no comparison.
10 minutes of research would have explained receiver sensitivity and you would have been able to do better than "it has to be better because it is bigger".
What surprises me the most was not only was the reception better. But, the color was a lot nicer, not all washed out a such. Nice comparison of receivers. Good job🙌
Hey Stu. You should do an updated video on fpv range. Do you still need ground stations unless flying very long range these days?
I just started fpv and the man i see the most teaching is this guy right here 👌🏽listen to what he has to say he’s legit 🙏🏽appreciate this channel
God its nuts how far our gear has come!
Yep

The Fatsharks come with a cable to do so.
Thanks ShawnzFPV
Can i use a headphone like cable thata double ended? I have these goggles and some cyclops v2 box goggles but want the fatsharks
@@mikebaroni5349 no can't use a Jack to Jack cable sorry
Great comparison, quite a difference even without diversity, it would be interesting to see how much better the helical would be. Now I've got more stuff to add to my shopping list!
Good idea! I already use a ground station for my Dji drone never thought about using it for my race quad.
I come from a drone filming background so I'm used to crystal clear signals. To me that signal even with the groundtsation looks unflyable. Is that just the transmitter being bad then?
How to connect the FR632 to the goggles?
Is still just for digital or will it work on analog
Hey stu. I have a problem. I bought these cheap fpv goggles. I had a few flights with the eachine wizard x220 then one time I switched the goggles on on but since then they would just not connect. good one
what is a good directional antenna for that
Say you buy a better antenna for your drone, will that antenna work for both the goggles and the drone?? In other words is the antenna universal to the drone and the goggles.
you can mix the antennas. yes
Link what you think is a decent or best ground station. I buy what you’re selling, I just don’t know where to buy it.
man I wish I had all those quads on your wall ! love your vids , very helpful
Why no test with the patch aswell?
Do your goggles need a av input to use a diversity receiver? Or can it connect through the goggle's receiver port?
av input if you are using a ground station
+UAVfutures thcks, for my 1st set of goggles i was leaning towards the eachine ev800s but knowing there is no av input. I think ill go more the quanum v2 route and get a good receiver. Im on a budget. U have any used goggles you want to sell? LOL
stew-pot, if I add a 10 ft. antenna extension cable would it induce latency? or is it better to have a longe a/v cable?

no, you only need an antenna on what ever receiver you are getting signal from

Pity the colours in the 632 vtx suck balls compared to rage fat shark vtx or where you using a different dvr?
this is a very old video and the colours were a result from the capture card I used in the pc instead of the receiver
what version of the fat shark goggles do you use
attitude v2

+PlaneCrazy some setting on the lap top for the cheap dvd capture card. There is like 8 Pal settings to cycle through and some NTSC ones. It looks normal my goggles but looks really purple on the dvr
Does it still worth in 2020?
What helical are you using?
+Tim Ramsay I fly with a 5turn VAS helical
nice video dude, may i ask what onboard camera were you using?
it was a long time ago, but im going to guess its a hs1177
why dont drone racers use the same technique as DJI, there is no disturbance with a DJI product
Awesome video as usual Futures. Subbed!

Lol the external receiver is doing more because it's bigger he says
I know right? What kind of logic is that?
@@miketilley why not just connect the goggles to an antenna on a pole.
You don't really explain how to get actual live video to your eyes from the dedicated receiver.
FPV quality is so bad even with a good signal. Can't wait till they figure out a way to improve it without sacrificing latency.
Has there been a massive leap in video quality this last year... The video was horrible compared to the latest vids you have made...
TR
i was thinking the same thing
"it's bigger so there must be a lot more going on in there " ?
"A lot of water in your head" ?
