    Man, I gotta say.. im a huge fan of people like Mark Smith, or Morten Hilmer. And after sitting here and watching your videos and then checking out your portfolio, you are incredible and deserve just as much recognition man. This bobcat photo is stunning, and the bear photos you have in your portfolio the two where they're dead center in the frame with either atmosphere from the trees or the birds in the sky, just unbelievable work and great moments. Definitely earned yourself a forever subscriber for me and inspired me a lot. Great great job, Neil.

    Saw this because it was posted by Carole Baskin of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, FL. I've learned to love bobcats through their bobcat rehab program, and watching them via the Explore.org cams in the rehab enclosures. Thank you for these wonderful images and congratulations on capturing these amazing shots of my favorite cat! Those three beautiful shots gave me goosebumps!

    Incredible shots!!!!!, you have inspired me to try this elusive imagery, it’s pretty addictive, cell linked trail cams, leaving camera equipment in the woods, horrid beginner images, this has got to be one of the hardest things to get right, but following you has proven to me how much positive progress can be made, and if I ever get an image close to these Bobcat images I’m not even sure how I will react. Incredible, simply incredible!

    WOw, congratulations . I would like to know in which mode did you set the camera ? Manual or Aperture priority ?

    • @NeilJernigan
      @NeilJernigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was shooting in manual mode. I will say I misspoke, I said I was try to capture stars, when that was another trap I was working on at the same time. But I choose a slower shutter speed of 1/60 to capture some more ambient light in-case of a early or late shot. But with the combination of 1/60 shutter speed and other settings, along with flash settings it caused the overexposure. I will be making a video soon regarding settings with camera traps and lighting. Thank you and thanks for watching!

      @@NeilJernigan I'm interested in starting a dslr camera trap. what is your opinion on using wireless flash trigger ? What camera mode shlould i use as i'm a beginner ?

    • @NeilJernigan
      @NeilJernigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Camtraptions has the best wireless flash trigger system! I would start in manual mode. 1/200th @ 5.6 ISO up to 800 is a good starting range for most night time situations. If you use aperture prio. be sure to set your max shutter speed to 1/200 so you don't over power the flashes.

    great shots, BUT i wonder about the ethics of flash photography, . The animal was clearly startled

    • @NeilJernigan
      @NeilJernigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. We can question any wildlife photographer on ethics, none of us are perfect. The cat was briefly startled by the sound of the shutter then he looked at the flash. But just as quickly as it was startled, he moved along un-scathed. At the end of the video you can see a trail cam video I captured of him just a little further down the same trail and he was back to normal. Other trail cam videos show a bobcat walking across the dam not bothered by the flashes or sound of the shutter. Now, if what I was doing something that was causing serious harm or could cause major impacts. I would simply either not do it or stop all together. No photo is worth causing an animal to loose it life or cause serious harm. Thanks for watching and bringing up the topic. I may create a video on this very subject in the future. :)
