You can add their conscription time as well, they do about a year before the officers training at Karlberg. That is one thing I really like with Swedish armed forces, all the officers comes from the ranks and not from privilege.
Side note: Pay attention to the fact that there’s a sauna “with accessories” as a central part of this celebration. What this means in this part of the world (and in this particular context) is that you, your fellow students, and your senior teachers sit completely naked together and drink cold beers together (that’s the “accessories”). This is old, old Nordic tradition stuff. Rank, and social status, or any such thing is stripped away in a room like that. When *everyone*, regardless of position is literally naked, just talking and drinking beer, you kinda just see everyone for who they are. In this video’s context, I believe it’s kinda unique to the Nordics to have the recruits and “the military brass” hanging out and bonding like that.
This is a great serie. About 800 feet, they where talking about the procedure for one engine malfunction. They where not limited to to fly that low under normal circumstances.
I like this. They seem to have very supportive instructors. No shouting, just very friendly and supportive talk. I suppose if you weren't considered pilot material, the instructors would be very polite and supportive even in that situation, when they tell you the bad news. I guess that is the Swedish Air Force. Shooting down your planes, but politely. 😀
Hi, Long time lurker, first time poster. I enjoy your content! One small bit of feedback is that when you do various series it would be great if you'd organize them as such, sometimes an episode can be hard to find with all the other videos you output. Keep at it !
The tradition of the babtisme begun a very long time ago when the flight school was located at the F 5 Air Base at Ljungbyhed in the far south of Sweden. For many years they had an outdoor swingingpool there. After having completed their first solo flight the students were thrown into the swimingpool. The pool eventually fell into disrepair and was filled in. That's when they begun to use a bucket instead.
The water thing made me giggle. For us a bit older doing the conscription things like that was a deterent if anything to join the military, but the younger ones thought it was cool
Unlike many other airforces, the Swedes start out straight on jet trainers, where here in Denmark, the aspirants start out in a single engine prop trainer. However, they have only a total of 24 hours to advance into a solo flight, where after they are traditionally thrown into a pool and from there, they continue their education in the US...
Sent in my application about an hour ago. Hopefully I'll be here in about 5 years!
Lycka till
Lycka till!
Best of luck

800 feet was max for a specific problem on takeoff so they dont collide with the guy taking off behind them

Sorry to say but the pure pure jet SK60/SAAB 105 retired during 2024 and we got SK 40 instead, which is the GROB G 120TP turboprop.
Prize for completing the training = Water boarding xD
Just love it
