    The curtain hanger rings came from amazon and the rest of the supplies came from lowes. I ended up saving quite a bit of money doing it this way vs my original plan. my wife and I both really like the new pergola curtains. The purpose was to eliminate the hot afternoon sun from melting our skin....LOL...it worked.

    One thing to help keep them looking nice longer is silicone sealer spray for camping tents and keeps them water resistant for up to a year at a time depending on how much you put on, hope this helps 👍

      I would use 303 Marine Fabric Guard. That's what I used on our hybrid camper that has 3 queen bed pop outs. We sold it recently and never had water inside for 7 seasons. I only used it once per season at the beginning when it got a full detail cleaning and waxed. The tent spray is too thin and won't fill in the fabric.

    A good look Pete. I did that exact set up a few years ago. It did well for a while, the issue comes into play when they started to mold. So after a couple of years of the wife hating to take them down to wash them in the tub I had to bite the bullet and buy actual outdoor curtains last year. Just be aware of that especially since they hang on the ground. Keep up the great work. Appreciate you here from Raleigh. Team cool season grass.

    Instead of the iron pipe you could use conduit. It will not rust like the iron pipe when the paint wears off.

    I'm in the same situation. I put up mesh tarp and you can have them custom made to any size, and you can still see thru them. They typically block 70 to 80% uv rays. Mesh tarp are mold resistant and you still get your breeze

    Great idea. I've been using shade sails for shade on the sides. For what I paid for the shades I could have put together this system.
    I found that you only need length to be about 24 inches off the ground as any sun coming through is negligent. Save money on shorter curtains. Still gives total privacy.

    Pete, you might want to rethink these curtains a bit. I think you might not be considering when a strong storm or hurricane comes through there or when winter and much colder temps and precipitation comes through. Yes, it does block the afternoon sun, but, as you know, there are other forms of weather to prepare for.

  • @rbljackson
    @rbljackson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    they look great pete. One suggestion: you might want to find something different than the chain to hold them back. If they rust, they will stain your shade curtains. other than that, I think its a great project and relatively affordable.

    • @rbljackson
      @rbljackson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess i should have waited till the end of the video to post my comment....LOL...sorry to hear that the rusted from one rain.

  • @sabriath
    @sabriath 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another idea is to put ringlets at the level of the chain with the same interval as the top ties....you can use the chain to go through the ringlets to give it a furl when "put away". Also, place something like carabiner clips at the bottom of the curtain with similar intervals (2 inches from the bottom so it doesn't drag on the concrete.....this way you can clip up the curtain at the ringlets (to keep the sun out but allow airflow at waist height) or the top ties (to have a high shade). When you put it away, you can clip up the middle to the ringlet before furling, this way when it rains, the rain will flow away from the curtain and not leave it water logged on the ground.

  • @jeffbutton9611
    @jeffbutton9611 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Pete! Two thing I would have done differently, first I would have spray painted all of the hardware to prevent it from rusting. Secondly, I would consider Scotchgarding that fabric on both sides, when it rains that canvas is going to absorb water and make it very heavy possibly pulling the curtain out of the clips. Other than than that, it looks good.
