I have a pot bound privet. Its too late in the year to repot. I will slip pot it. I have noticed that the soil doesn’t hold much water anymore and the tree wilts at the end of each day. So its not growing. Even if I water it well. I am interested in how trees that get root bound stop growing. Because of a lack of nutrients and lack of water it seems. Then we should repot in spring. Cut the roots back in order to get more progress. Sometimes bonsai youtubers cut so much roots they all most reduce the tree to a cutting. But somehow the tree is better off. Might be a good topic for a video
Some trees can really be cut back hard in terms of their roots. Trident maples for example could be cut back to almost a cutting while I would never do that to a juniper or pine. Privet would be more on the side of trident maple as they are very strong root growers.
I don’t put them in shade after repotting. In Melbourne our temperatures are very mild and there is not danger in putting them back in the same spot they were in before I repotted them.
@@Bonsaiworx in our country afternoon sun heat is high. What do you suggest how long do I keep the himalayan blue pine in shade where it gets morning sun.
I keep my pines in full sun all year round. As long as you give them enough water on the really hot days. I only repot in winter so they have lots of time to recover and grow new roots by the summer. How hot does it get in winter for you? How hot is it in summer?
Beautiful tree David you have an amazing collection. My wife and i are thinking about driving to Melbourne next year and I'm planning on bringing a Bonsai or 2 home with us. Where would you say is the best place to buy them in Melbourne.
If you wait for my club's Exhibition weekend (Bonsai Northwest) then that would be a great time to get some good trees at a great price. There are quite a few nurseries in Melbourne and really depends on what you are after as well. I can direct you to specific ones.
Luckily i do visit the gym 3 times a week!!! Imagine I didn't!! I picked up the tree 6 years ago and I workshopped it with Bjorn when he was in Melbourne last year.
That looked like hard work removing from its pot. Thanks
Amazing job and Great demonstration. The tree must bring you a lot of pleasure, you are so lucky to have it in your collection.
Very beautifull job and amazing tree. The only word I can say is congratulations. Saludos cordiales desde Córdoba Argentina.
That's a beauty!!
Amazing jbp 😳✨✨
Black Beauty... Thanks

@@Bonsaiworx I live in Bangladesh. Winter here get lowest to 15°C. And summer is 30°C plus in the afternoon.
That’s fine. Sounds similar to Melbourne.
Which mix of soil do you use
Hugo Eijsackers it’s 4 parts pumice and 1 part orchid pine nuggets. I did an earlier video on my channel if you would like to have a look through.
Can BP be repot anytime of the year?
T le no, it’s early spring here in Melbourne and that’s when I like to repot my pines.
Hi David. Can you do it in early September in Sydney ? Thanks

@@Bonsaiworx cheers Dave I will let you know when we are planning our trip
Hello my friend wonderful video big Thumbs upp 👍👍👍👍👍 and hopefully 1 one to joined here,,
Not 2B picky but most ("round pots") have a mark to indicate the front! If your planning on showing the tree...!
lamontjackson6971 yeah I looked for it however it didn’t have any feet and no mark and was the same all the way round.
David looks like a couple of sessions in the gym is required💪🏻hahaha, did you buy the tree?
