  • EDUARD VAN DER ELSKEN - Bagara: Photographs of Equatorial Africa - EUA: Hassell Street Press, 2021.
In 1957, Ed van der Elsken was invited by his brother-in-law Milou Leynaud to spend some time in French Equatorial Africa (now known as the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of Congo and Gabon). Milou was an ethnographer working as a district chief in the Ubangi Chari region. The photo book shows daily life in isolated villages. Remarkably for the time, van der Elsken used flash photography. The second part of the book is devoted to safaris and big game hunting. In the text by Jan Vrijman, based on interviews with the photographer, van der Elsken shares his views on hunting.
