Who even plays this nowadays. i do, i have it digitally downloaded on my 3DS.. well now on my New 2DS XL since i did system transfer. Sure with the huge lack of originality and it's infamous generic paper toads and it's battle system i still like this game.

It was one of the first games I ever played, I was 7 when I got it and I loved it. I know the game has many flaws but it will always bring a sense of nostalgia whenever I see it or play it and it will all ways have a place in my memory and heart.

I really enjoyed this game ever since I got it, however, really the only thing I hate about it is that once you complete the game there's nothing else to do, the puzzles cannot be done again, and can't fight bosses again either (except for Bowser and Kamek).
That's what honestly kills this game for me. At least if it had some sort of challenge mode or something it would have been a nice addition There's the Sticker Museum, but once you do that as well, and fill the 3 save files, the game's pretty much going to collect dust in your room from then on.

Mine just resets to before I fought bowser every time I finish the fight. Is this a glitch or is that supposed to happen?

Everything in this game is so amazing. I 100% this year for the first time because I felt like replaying it, it was very fun. I only have to 100% TTYD and 64 so I can finally say I've 100% every Paper Mario game.

Despite how hated this game is, I have such nostalgia for the trailer as my barely alive brain would keep watching the trailer on my 3ds as it was on nintendo video, and (even though I barely knew mario outside of mario kart wii) I was invested.

I liked this when I first played it, but now I wish it didn't exist. It was very easy to please 7-year old me.

They played it when they were really young and have nostalgia of playing it, but if they were to replay it today, they'd wonder why they ever enjoyed this dumpster fire to begin with

I would like to say a few things, I don’t see why people hate Paper Mario Sticker Star and Colour splash. I mean just because they are different (then again, this is the first paper Mario Game I have ever played so I have no idea what TTYD is like, except through videos)

I gotta say honestly, I don't know how to feel about this one, as much as I adored the previous paper mario titles, they've changed ALOT about this one, the world is no longer fully free roam, its map based which saddens me a little, I enjoyed the aspect of having to trek back through area's I've been to progress forward sometimes, but using the map to do so it just feels like it'll feel more like "oop, gotta go back to world 1-1" rather than feeling liek I have to go to somewhere iconic.
Back when this game was "only a miss in the series" and "they will go back to their roots after this" was a thing...
If only...: Paper Mario: The Rewind Chronicles, an amazing fanmade idea of a true TTYD sequel, (not an actual game, sadly) has the one of the best fanmade soundtracks ever! (Complete with Story & Art!) The creator of the fanmade idea, Renzo S., is a channel I highly recommend subscribing to! Go to a playlist called Paper Mario The Rewind Chronicles Music Reorganized for the best list of it's 90+ original music tracks! (Notes about each track are also included in the playlist)
I’m glad they didn’t. Color Splash and Origami King are two of my favorites. Both of them and The Thousand Year Door are tied for #1, but that’s me.
Many years ago, there was a Mario RPG spinoff to the Super Mario Bros. franchise by Nintendo. Its name was Paper Mario (or Mario Story for the first game if you lived in Japan). Many people, including myself, were taken in by its simple yet furbished & mostly refined gameplay, unique characters, unusual look, unorthodox storylines (chapter and gamelong- big and small need each other, after all), and chuckle-inducing writing.
Unfortunately, after Super Paper Mario in 2007, something bad happened to the series. Namely, its identity- from basic staples to defining characteristics- was stripped away from it.
Instead of many visually different named NPCs of many different species, there were only generic six colored adult male Toads.
Instead of an engaging explicit story for every chapter and the game overall, only World 3 and a single level in World 4 had anything resembling such.
Instead of the storybook look adding to the timelessness, the many Toads and even other characters explicitly brought up the paper style, undermining the impact of many moments and in place of actual jokes.
Instead of a fair challenge, even basic information for playing the game was withheld, and clues for obstacles (most involving one-use Things) were given too late or never given at all.
And instead of a gameplay experience made for modern days, the mechanics were more akin to an NES era game, with the most outdated of ways to “pick” a target (the exact move on the exact enemy in the exact order), infuriatingly strict trial and error gameplay, the helper character Kersti not actually offering hints most of the time, even when asked with her dedicated button (on top of being an awful character), and little quality of life in general.
Not helping this was the huge flaw of the game’s components not “flowing” into each other in a way that made them all undeniably contribute (battling offers no unique reward type, making fights with non-boss enemies and non-story enemies completely skippable). This is referring, of course, to the infamous 2012’s Paper Mario Sticker Star for Nintendo 3DS.
At first, it was thought to be the fault of Super Mario franchise creator Shigeru Miyamoto forcing his views on the development team. It was also thought there was miscommunication and a misunderstanding of some dubious surveys for Super Paper Mario.
Unfortunately, even 4 years later, many of the unpopular traits of Sticker Star stuck around for the Nintendo Wii U game Paper Mario: Color Splash.
When Color Splash was released for the Wii U console, many of the problems from Sticker Star had not been fixed. In fact, Color Splash (and by extension, the creative team) seemed to twistedly celebrate the fact they hadn’t really fixed anything wrong with the previous game. From the nameless Toads themselves now mentioning how there were only Toads as friendly NPCs local to the setting of Prism Island, to the paper jokes now being forced to the point they actually made no sense even in context, to the game making Replicas (extra Things) useless for boss weaknesses and actually mocking the player for it (when the developers themselves programmed it in), to the producers actually shafting the blame onto the contingent Mario & Luigi/Mario & Luigi RPG series for why Paper Mario isn’t an RPG anymore (when this wasn’t a problem years ago, and isn't a problem)…
Rather tellingly, despite using the Super Paper Mario surveys as the reason for the changes, the producers have mentioned they jumped right from Sticker Star to Color Splash, with no mention of the Club Nintendo surveys for Sticker Star. Also rather tellingly, even though Kensuke Tanabe says he went to Shigeru Miyamoto because “Mario wasn’t the producer’s intellectual property”, the simple fact Nintendo gave the producer the Color Splash project at all indicates this wasn’t a problem for the higher ups.
Basically, the current creative team for Paper Mario (producer Kensuke Tanabe, co-producer Risa Tabata, and writer Taro Kudo, as well as whoever the current head game designer is), are what’s wrong with the current Paper Mario franchise. They refuse to really improve their ways, and don’t really appear to embrace or emphasize quality of life design choices (as seen with their mockery of Replicas).
Therefore, in order to have a chance of restoring the Paper Mario series to its prime and regaining its full identity and respect, I are asking you, the reader and Mario fan (not just Paper Mario fan) to ask Nintendo alongside me to replace the producer, co-producer, writer and game designer with other, more proven Nintendo employees. This is not to have the people currently in those positions fired, especially as Japanese culture is averse to the idea of firing people- just relocated and switched out with other employees.
As for who in particular could sub in for at least one of these positions, there are a few candidates. The first choice, of course, would be to reassign former director Ryota Kawade from his position in the Fire Emblem trading card game (from what recent research tells me) back in charge of Paper Mario.
If Mr. Kawade is not willing to return to Paper Mario for whatever reason, there is another choice in mind- Yoshiaki Koizumi, the Assistant director of Super Mario 64, the director of Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, the producer for Super Mario Odyssey and the Nintendo Switch console/handheld hybrid. The reason for this nomination of Mr. Koizumi’s tutelage over Paper Mario is simple- his work on Super Mario Galaxy, as well as its sequel, indicates he is incredibly creative in adding completely new characters while giving old ones a spin. In addition, several aspects of Super Mario Galaxy and his later games, from Bowser’s speech patterns to the Grand Stars as collectibles and the font, are reminiscent of Paper Mario. Finally, even when Shigeru Miyamoto enacted a “storyline minimism” clause similar to Sticker Star, Mr. Koizumi still kept the characters and style he enacted. This also applies to Yoshiaki Koizumi’s pupils and students.
Therefore, if Yoshiaki Koizumi and his team replaced Kensuke Tanabe and his team for Paper Mario (preferably after Super Mario Odyssey is released and/or finished), there is good faith he would provide a closer experience to the original Ryota Kawade trilogy, original formula or not. Even if Mr. Koizumi were forced to creative restrictions and couldn’t negotiate or migitate them, we at least wouldn’t see so many Toads, and would have a much more diverse cast.
And even if not Kawade or Koizumi themselves, someone who thinks like them (young, fresh, assertive) and isn't one of the current crew would suffice in replacing the current "problem members".

I agree. Super Paper Mario may not be the typical formula and maybe seen as a "spin-off" for some, it is apparent that it is the 3rd book of the Paper Mario franchise. The main characters are who they are, and actually developed -- Luigi went from a housekeeper who wanted adventure, to someone who apparently did, to someone that actually did. Peach went from a hostage, to...I guess a hostage again, but this time was an important key for the plot, then turned to a parasol wielding warrior ala Super Princess Peach. Bowser turned from typical villain, to a comedic one, then turned to a stomping anti-hero. Mario stayed the same of course, but you see the progression of characters, plot, and the depth of story. The first was good cookie cutter, the second was a bit gruff, while the third was artistic with themes that's not usually in a Mario game.
Sticker Star and Color Splash, while they may be good games, doesn't look like the same characters we cherished from the past 3 games, but instead looked like sticker book and coloring book versions derived from those first 3 books. They two games are like activity books the real Mario is playing with, which I still think is the same character as Paper Mario from the 1st 3 games (and also Mario RPG and Mario & Luigi games).

Personally I really appreciate that the Paper Mario developers try to reinvent the series with each new game. I know it might upset people who love a certain game in the series but I think they should be commended for their creativity. Most developers would just play it safe but they dare to try something new every time.
Yeah, seriously, if you want safe and good ripetitive games, play the New Super Mario Bros series.

What are you talking about? Bowser was never the main villian in ANY of the Mario RPGs (except Paper Mario 64).
I hate how whiny Nintendo fans are when they release something creative. But then they get games like mario bros 2 or mario Kart 8 and are like "WOO!!! Another mario kart game that does the exact same thing"

It's funny because while fans want another TTYD, Miyamoto said that the prototype of Sticker Star was like 'a port of TTYD' and told the dev team to remake it.

This game makes the first look like the best game ever. You should probably rent it, cause it's at least worth playing, but I would think twice before buying.
I'm disappointed I've not seen any new, original villain. Usually the Mario RPG's give us new fan favourites like Doopliss, Dimentio and Fawful. Ah well, game still looks rather solid but it's unfortunate that the villain's just Bowser

Maybe the DLC (if the give this game some) could have Mario return to Rougeport but, its more developed and bigger or something. Nintendo should really add DLC to this game. It would make this game even MORE better. Nintendo would be getting money out ass man.
Paper Mario is the last series that I consider an "Insta buy" the second I hear a new one. With the addition of a goat, this game is a must have.

I kinda doubt you would be though,since you can buy them and find them around frequently.
Should Nintendo attempt to make Sticker Star the series standard without fixing the numerous flaws the game presented (never explaining anything, only having unnamed Toads and an unnamed Wiggler as characters and not using the extensive cast in the Super Mario world due to that Tanabe guy thinking "Toads in various colors were the only supporting characters we could use" [coughegadd, toadsworth, nokis, piantas, gearmos], making battles give no unique reward types related to permanently gaining strength, removing the story at a certain someone's request, devising the worst inventory system ever in the year 2012, and other things), I will actually go out of my way to sabotage sales however I can, whether by giving said Sticker Star follow-up a bad rep, or redirecting potential customers to better games on Nintendo systems and even competing systems.
And trust me- I will pull out all the stops to ensure such a game's financial demise.
Similarly, Kersti was the most despicable, arrogant, bossy, obnoxious, unremorseful, unchanging, unhelpful character I have ever encountered in any game, among other words I wish to use too offensive to post in this video.
When that thing happened to Kersti at the end of SS, not only did I want it to be permanent, but I actually fist-pumped and went "yes!" without consciously deciding to. I hated her that much.
I hope Kersti never appears or is even namedropped in anything ever again- her trophy in Smash Bros. 3DS was severely pushing it. She "appears paper-thin" because she is paper-thin...due to being a terrible character. And the trophy description was lying when it said "her heart runs deep."
In fact, I hope her trophy is removed and replaced in a future patch, along with the Paper Mario Medley & stage being edited to start on the TTYD section and never cut to either Sticker Star section.
I will take what action I desire, such as redirecting potential buyers to other light-hearted RPGs on Wii U (coughchildoflightcough) or other consoles if it comes down to it, against a sequel that fixes nothing to a game whose staff admitted to purposely screwing up and not caring about even the main Mario series. I know others who feel the same as me.
I doubt even 0.1% of players actually want that worthless excuse of a helper Kersti back, even including young audiences.
And even though the Smash patch would never actually happen due to the precedent it would set to remove and edit content, the point stands that Sticker Star's mere presence in SSB4 3DS (and Wii U, unfortunately...) ruins the magic of it celebrating Nintendo's best.
I'm not backing down on the matter.

It's finally here. Finished downloaded and playing through the 1st areas. So cool. Mario gets a 'Sticker Star' and Luigi gets a 'Dark Moon'(2013 can't get here soon enough). Hehe

Of Thousand Year door? Yeah, if memory serves I was able to win in a few turns by spamming Supernova, Bobombast, and Ultra Jump.
This looks interesting. I've not played this before, and not played a single Paper Mario title (apart from fan made ones) but this looks really good!
I did see a lot of complaints about the fact you don't know what sticker you need, and I do agree that will get a bit frustrating... but it looks cool. :D

Super Paper Mario isn't Paper Mario. It's Super mario with a cool 3d/2d flip mechanic.

Seriously... it's the gameplay and the plot that excites me--not so much the mechanics. We went from origins & saving a princess and her castle, to a phenomena & saving the world from a 1000-year queen's slumber, to 3D worlds & saving ALL of existence.... to stickers & what sounds like a downtrodden return to the idea of the first game's storyline.
The amount of people that think this game is good is terrifying.

If this and Super Paper Mario were just like TTYD and the N64 one, People would be complaining that they are all the same. It's a good thing Nintendo changed it up with the past 2 games, that way they have room to make an even better one for the Wii U and it'll drive sales.
honestly, i wouldnt... the games have enough improvement and uniqueness to them that they wouldnt be bland. paper mario 1 and 2 are both very different in terms of story, characters, graphics, and locations. the battle system was greatly improved upon in paper mario 2, and so were a lot of other things. if they kept improving things and slightly tweaking them but not to a point where the game became bad, people would love the games.
Fighting Bowser in the beginning of the game just looks extremely nostalgic for me, it's not that bad.^^
