  • Stitching one over one on linen can be tricky. In this video, I show my technique that eliminates the problem of the floss slipping under the warp and weft of the linen weave. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments below. Mahalo for watching!

    Thank you for the tutorial! I had not heard about Yvonne’s husband. So very sad and I will be praying for her and the family. I hope that you can get settled in your new place soon and be able to be comfortable and settle in without being in limbo anymore. Ugh I can’t even imagine.

    Thank you for the instructions on one over one. I tried one over one before seeing your video and gave up because of the floss slipping under the threads. Hurray, now I can try again. See you next week. All will be well, just a few more days.

    Aloha! Enjoyed your stitch with me. Praying that you can get into your apt soon and that your items arrive sooner than expected. I was so heartbroken to hear about Yvonne’s husband. She’s definitely in my prayers. We lost my husbands brother unexpectedly 11 months ago. It’s been so hard on everyone, especially my sister in love. We’re close friends. It’s so unimaginably hard and I pray Yvonne has close family and friends for support. I think she does.

      Thanks Teal. Yes, I am sure Yvonne is surrounded by family, and is being surrounded and lifted up by this wonderful community, but there is really nothing that can take the pain away. I am sorry to hear that your family has also suffered such a loss. Hugs, sweet friend.

    I just recently tried stitching 1 over 2 on evenweave. Next I will try 1 over 1. 28 count is the largest I can manage. Am on the search for a good clip on magnifier to attach to my floor lamp for larger counts. Am anxious for the tutorial on Monday. Merry Christmas!

    Hi Jan, I'm so jealous of you living in Oahu, even though it's been a bit of and ordeal. Could you please let me know if you always stitch your variegated threads in diagonal rows? What do you think is the advantage? Thank you for sharing your techniques and time with us. Looking forward to your next Flosstube episode 💕

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tara!
      I don’t like to have striped lines when I’m working with variegated floss, so I usually go on the diagonal, or even work in circles, or a smaller section at a time working in a circle, if that makes sense. It helps to break up the striping effect.

    Re Yvonne. As you say I was just speechless when I heard. She is such a positive outward looking person It is just so sad. I have sent a message
    Re your room. Are you able to put out a ‘do not disturb’ sign and just skip the cleaning for a day as you can in a motel
    Thank you for your informative video. Hang in there. At least you are stitcher and knitter. Can you imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have anything to work on. ....

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I can’t imagine what it would be like if I didn’t have these things to keep me busy, especially since the TV here doesn’t have many channels. But yeah, we only have the cleaners come in every other day or so, so that helps. Not too much longer and we’ll at least be camping in this apartment here on this end. Lol.

    I don't know if there's a different special name for it, but it's basically the continental stitch from needlepoint and then doing a reverse continental going back the other way.

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, that’s good to know. I was thinking it was either that or the tent stitch, but I haven’t taken the time to look into it. Thanks Sarah!

    Hello love your videos! Do you have a video explaining basic sewing method on 14 count Aida? I just can’t get the hang of it. A lot of videos I’ve watched -it’s too hard to see?

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, I don’t have any specifically on aida, but I have two on other fabrics. Hopefully these will still be helpful, because the movements are the same regardless of what fabric you are using and I think you are able to see everything pretty clearly. The first one is here: th-cam.com/video/xHwY3Wgd7ws/w-d-xo.html and the second one it here: th-cam.com/video/JQUniDvhkFg/w-d-xo.html
      Let me know how these work for you and if you have any questions.

      Hi Varsha, I don’t usually use a hoop, no. Sometimes I use a frame, and there are times I use a QSnap, but I usually stitch in hand with no frame of any sort.

    So very sad to hear about Yvonne’s husband. Keeping her and her family in my thoughts. And poor Sasha - I know how disturbing it must be for you to hear him howl like that - I’ve been through that with my fur babies as well. Wondering if you can ask to have them “skip” cleaning your room every single day, and maybe they can just come every 2nd or 3rd day? Then, it will only be a couple more times to go through that before you move into the apartment, instead of 7 more times. Might be helpful. I also ordered my mattresses from Amazon and have LOVED them. Hoping you get a sense of calm and place soon.

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we only have the cleaning people come in every other day or so. Yesterday was one of my “skip” days, and I had planned to spend it sitting out in the courtyard here stitching. Unfortunately, it rained all day. Sigh...I was pretty grumpy by the time Mike got home. Lol. But today we spent the morning roaming around different stores in Honolulu, so I feel better. Lol.

  • @carolyndelong7558
    @carolyndelong7558 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I stitch 1 over 1 I finish each stitch as I go. I start first leg in bottom left to top right. I check the fabric. thread I'm going over, is it a vertical or horizontal thread. If horizontal, I come up top left and down to bottom right so my thread on the back lies horizontally. If the fabric thread is vertical, I make sure my thread on the back goes vertically when I create and cross my stitch. I never lose a thread when I stitch this way. Really sorry about Yvonne and our prayers are with her and the family.

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have done that some times, too, but I find that my stitches don’t look very even when I do it that way. But if I have just a few to do to get over to another section, that’s what I’ll do.

  • @patriciaferry5880
    @patriciaferry5880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another question. When you backstitch over one on linen or evenweave do you follow the same technique that you showed?

    • @JanHicksCreates
      @JanHicksCreates  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I do for the most part, but I very rarely backstitch over just one thread. I usually make my backstitches linger because I don’t like them to look so choppy, if that makes sense.
