Lyft drivers put a ton of miles on their vehicles. I suspect all the life was driven out of this vehicle and it’s value was far less than the loan payoff. So it “disappeared” in a fraudulent insurance scam.

Particularly since the rideshare gig jobs dried up considerably during COVID. The driver wasn’t able to even make enough scratch to make payments off of a Mirage. I noticed the VIN plate on the driver’s side of the dash just below the windshield appeared to still be there though. The CHP officer that placed the abandoned vehicle sticker on the back window would’ve made a report and the state insurance bureau database would’ve been copied on that. That could possibly have messed up the scam, or not. Hard to say, would’ve depended on timing of the CHP report vs when the insurance company paid off the loss.

I got stuck in a remote part of Death Valley when I was on a road like the one crossing the wash, and kind of assumed that the sand was more or less similarly firm alongside the road.
Maybe the driver of that car thought the wash was okay to drive on? And then tried to turn around, and ended up over on the side before the wheels sank in?
That's quite a feeling when the wheels sink in an you realize you're stranded.

The car was stolen and stripped and dragged on it's roof, shot at, and left there. How do I know that? Well, because a car I owned many years ago was stolen from our driveway, driven to a remote area, stripped, dragged on its roof and shot at. That's what these thugs do. They've been doing it for years and it's still the same. In cases like this, the owner doesn't want the car back (would you?) so unless the local police haul it in it generally stays where it is. In this case, the desert. My car was left in the water so they had to hook up chains and haul it out. But, in a lake or in the desert it's all the same thing. The owner probably filed a claim w/his insurance co. like I did and got another vehicle. Interesting video.

  • @IrontonBuck2

That scene is the result of multiple visits by disparate parties, some human, some animal. It explains the strange state of the thing and why some things haven't weathered as badly as would be expected over the duration. For instance, the plastic under the hood looks in unexpectedly good condition because the hood may not have been open that entire time and when it was closed, they would have been shielded form sun and weather.
So that guy or gal tried to prepare for the journey by installing two lyfts, one in front and one in back but those alone didn't cut it. They were missing the requisite drive train and beefy tires. If they had done just one lift, had 4WD or AWD and put some beefy tires on instead of just the two lyfts front and back, they wouldn't have gotten stuck. That's what happens when you cut corners.

When the driver returned with someone to help him with a mechanical problem, he took one look at the vandalized remains and just walked away. I remember September 6th, 2020 because it was one of the hottest days in California history. Woodland Hills, in LA, hit a record high of 126 degrees. Even places like Santa Monica, which rarely get above 90, was nearly 110 degrees.

    Sarah 🤔 You'll need the VIN #
On dash, lower corner of windshield or on the Engine block or under the spare tire compartment where its secured.
The VIN # will TELL ALL !!!

Those cars actually have a 10 year "bumper to bumper warranty" 🤣. Probably isn't stolen, pretty sad that there's a good chance whoever dumped it there didn't cause all that damage.... asshats with nothing better to do is more likely.

Unfortunately, where I live - the Northern Nevada desert? Near me, it is littered with these wrecked cars. Our local Pick-N-pull will not accept scrap cars without an "Active" title and registration. Nobody is willing to do that for a junk car...? They get dumped and stripped on public land. That CHP parking sticker makes me think it was sitting somewhere disabled for a long time... Got it running well enough to dump it out there? Locally- it's ironic that 6 wrecking yards are within a mile of the favorite dirtbag dump zone. Old trailers, cars, trucks, garbage etc... Very unsightly to see on public land next to a BLM sign that actually says- 'Take care of Your public lands'.

If you would read the little sticker on the door you would find a clue Of the month and year it was built.
Have continued fun on your adventures

It might be a stolen vehicle dump for an insurance claim. I can see someone reporting their vehicle stolen for an insurance claim and dumping the vehicle there to dispose of it.

There are tricks for extricating a vehicle that's struck like that. You can look them up online. You can also figure it out yourself if you are somewhat resourceful. So the driver probably had at least a bit of a deficit upstairs.
Unless the person didn't want to extricate the car for some reason.

Or maybe someone just wanted to ditch the car, and drove off with the assistance of a friend who was a co-conspirator and had another vehicle?
Or maybe it was a stolen vehicle.

Spinning quite a tale there. Lot of the folks that jumped into Uber and Lyft financed the cars through them and when they couldn’t make payments they would abandoned or just left car to be repossessed.
