WoW!!! This is a very important tip to really see like a painter, instead of seeing what I think I see. I can’t wait to do these excercises, until I can see like a painter naturally. Thank you Diane.
Well Dianne, yet again you have “saved my bacon”! I’ve been very discouraged at the lack of improvement in my oil painting, Even though I’m painting almost every day- in fact I’m going backwards. I’ll be going back to basics and trying to see better using your acronym (as a reminder) and good advice! Thankyou
Just doing exercise to practice the things I'm showing these Quick Tips can be extremely valuable to helping you move forward. Back to basics is often where we find our solutions. Enjoy the journey.
Thank you so very much bc my hubby is a professional artist but I don’t see the way he does So it’s been true rating. Now I can start speaking with him so he understands me ! A hug is enclosed!!! Btw I am so grateful for your freebies ! I just Found you today! May I ask do you have water color videos? Sincerely, Grace ❤❤
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a very basic question and was wondering if you could answer that. How do you keep your colors from drying? I am a watercolor artist slowly getting into oils. I bought a gray tray for my Cobra water mixable paints. I am only able to use my paints once a week. I cover my tray with a wooden board. I have noticed that my colors are drying and a few colors like permanent orange and green are forming some sort of blobs/plastic layer. Do you have any advise for me please? Thanks in advance!
Mona, when I need colors to stay wet from one session to the next, I give them all a very fine mist spary of 50/50 linseed oil/gamsol, then lay a sheet of plastic wrap over them and run my fingers around each color area to push out the bubbles. Oil oxidizes so shutting the oxygen out will keep the colors moist.
Mona, oil paints dry by oxidising so you need an airtight container, such as Dianne is suggesting by using the plastic wrap and pushing out the air. You can put traditional oils in the freezer but I am not sure how water mixables would go. I use a stay wet palette for my traditional oils and some colors will last a week or longer depends on how quickly they dry. I would think you could revitalise WM by giving them a quick spray with water but I am no expert
I will put Bavura brushwork on our calendar. We film several weeks in advance, so it will be late October or early November before it appears. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@IntheStudioArtInstructionI think It might be unpracticed hands. If I have two objects of different colors bordering eachother i can’t seem to be as precise as I would be with a color pencil for example. Mostly it’s when one color will cross very narrowly into the other color
I prefer the traditional 12-hue color wheel where the complements are exactly opposite each other. I have a free one available in pdf at diannemize.com/product-category/video-supplements/page/3/ Cursor down to the bottom row.
Thank you! What one doesn’t get in 4 years of art education, this video encapsulated in just 22 mins.
Wow, thank you!

Have fun with it!
This ranks really high among the tips; very, very useful, and I am taking notes!
Thanks! Have fun with it.
Awesome!! I took a screenshot of your whiteboard to keep in my painting file…..but already using “CDD” just looking around here. Thank you so much!

Wonderful lesson. Timing is perfect for what I am doing now.
Great to hear!
Diane thank you for your very helpful advice in how to see, much appreciated, allways learning so much from you.❤
Keep enjoying the journey, Roselyn.
Dear Dianne thank you very much. Your teaching is so helpful.
My pleasure, Reza.
Grandma Rosa used her fingers to measure everything, from how size to amount❤ in cooking, sewing, repairs, gardening.
So did the master painters hundreds of years ago. Many gauged size according to their thumb.

Very good! Thank you🥰
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Excellent video. It is very helpful. Values have confused me. Maybe with these exercises can really help. Thank you.
Have fun with them. We learn faster when we play with the ideas rather than struggle with them.

@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Thank you! So you don't keep them in a refrigerator?

A stay-wet palette without the need to freeze?! That is a very interesting idea. I've used a stay-wet palette only for acrylics.@@leonieknowles2832
Dianne, great class again! Can you do a class on Bravura brushwork? Thank you!

I’m having trouble painting the canvas neatly after applying my underdrawing. Could you make a video on this if you haven’t already.
Can you describe to me what's happening to cause problems so I will know what to address? Just reply to this message to do that. Thanks.

What are you using for your paints please, does it stop them drying.
Please see Quick Tip 172 that answers that, along with other questions.
Do you recommend a certain color wheel?

We'll try.
