These are so well acted, I don't miss a visual part.

It's good TH-camrs introduced these brilliant shows to new generations. Gunsmoke was one of the better radio shows. It does not feel dated.

The radio show will always be remembered as the original "Gunsmoke" show starring William Conrad, Parley Baer, Howard McNear and Georgia Ellis.
It was the last dramatic radio show to be aired from Hollywood in 1961 having run from April 26, 1951 until June of 1961
Once the cast learned of its closure, it was indeed a very sad day for all concerned as they all truly loved the years they had worked on the "Gunsmoke" radio shows..

Emma wanted her freedom from her husband. Listened on March 11, 2023. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

@harperstacey9604 What do you think about her selfish desires and murderous heart, Ms. Stacey Harper?

She should have just taken half the money in the box and left her husband a note that she was leaving. He probably wouldn't even cared. Too late now !!

@brendabell9534 - Yes, but selfishness, hate, and greed got in the way.

SPOILER ALERT: Sad ending. It seems more like a mercy killing than a plain murder; she just relieved the perpetual suffering of a man whose humanity had already mostly died.

@dontaylor7315 - That's silly talk. It was murder, plain and simple.

      1) I didn't say it wasn't murder.
      2) It's been a year, so I played the episode again and listened carefully to see what I missed.
      3) My take is still the same.

@@dontaylor7315 You said "It seems more like a mercy killing than a plain murder; she just relieved the perpetual suffering of a man whose humanity had already mostly died" about a murder victim who was physically healthy, based upon his constant hard work on the farm, therefore at a minimum implying his murder was justifiable and NOT outright murder. Your shockingly immoral take, that someone who subjectively in your eyes has reduced "humanity" so therefore may be justifiably murdered, remains unquestionably wrong. Instead of doubling down on your ignorance, try visiting reality. It's a great place to be.

@howardoller443 If by "visiting reality"you're suggesting I become as intensely and arrogantly judgemental as your two posts, I decline. Please quote the part of my comment that states it was "justifiable" for Emma to end her husband's joyless existence; there's no such statement because I harbor no such belief. It's murder but as I see it there are more layers and nuances in play than "plain" murder. When you read, try reading WHAT IS WRITTEN without extrapolating or distorting - if you can't, then try just not reading. Simply watching videos might be more your speed.
