    in his speech he touched about HK 1997 political problem, how then could this video be 1989? did LKW see into the future?

      It was a known problem - Britain's 100-year lease was public knowledge and the PRC was increasingly agitating for the UK to honor the terms of its lease and hand over the island.

    1989 i was in secondary school !
    you can see the style of his speech , although reading from script he put in effort to reiterate what it means in his own words clearly , understandable by all and humorous. This is something we don't get see nowadays , i don't know perhaps i did not pay much attention bcoz seems like everyone is reading only

    I recalled this speech by Mr Lee and for about 20 years searching for this particular speech and managed to listen to it on 28/9/2024. Listen to his tone, the tears which he was trying to hide when he said "Singapore is my place. This is my country, This is our lives" despite the economic calculations of the Ministers.

    Its we whom built Singapore by Singaporean. Not by the new immigrants. Why are they getting more subsidies and privileges than locals?? So to lure them in? Increase the population, votes, GDP??Think, at what cost to Singaporeans!! Late MM Lee will not allow big influx from certain countries, because of national security is concerned. Hopefully current and future leaders of ours will take heed, before its too late. Once the floodgate has opened it is hard to undo....😂

      what are the subsidies and priviledges that new immigrants are getting more than locals?

      Yes! Alarming and frightening when the Malay students were offensively told "Singapore belongs to the Chinese!" Shocking, indeed! Majulah Singapura...

      Please provide facts not just nags. What's the privilege that new immigrants are getting more than the locals?
      Also, look up the criteria that one can immigrate to Singapore. Most of them are young, well educated, hard working, resourceful and competitive in the global market. They are contributing to Singapore in the same way as locals.
      Yes, we should show our respect to the older generations of Singaporeans who worked hard to build this country, but again, everything is changing rapidly, Singapore can only thrive for being open and competitive in the global market.

      @Aidenleee well is contributing only economically not culturally or national service do new immigrants do service

    • @Aidenleee
      @Aidenleee 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@raghavnamasivayam8706 I don't think it is fair to say that new immigrants are not contributing culturally. Culture is constantly evolving and they are also contributing their part to reshape the evolving SG culture. For NS, all their male children are registered for service and as for the first generation immigrants, age is one thing as lots of immigrants are in the critical age to support their family so going to military for full-time 2 year service is just unrealistic and another thing is do you really want to have a person who lived decades in another country to be in the highly confidential military? Singapore is an aging country and new immigrants are not necessarily contributing less than locals. Please be open minded and welcome people who choose to become a part of this society. The reason is very simple, they choose it, so they must have truly loved it.

      You can make fun of Xi, but never poke at Lee. What we have and what we are, was dued to a extraordinary great leader. Whether you agree or not with his methods of Governance, have produced the needed results for our survival and prosperity. We are lucky to had this Man steered our ship.
