The F-35B lift mechanism is based on Yak-141. Truth be told Russian engineers were direct consultants to Lockheed Martin.

I was blown away by this episode which took me to "Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start" from the Sound of Music, literally signalling for those unquenchable thirsty fans like me ever wanting more, something seems off the handle here....kind of feeling. And you amply poured into our cups, starting no less than the British era. Dev has honed up his expertise to get you to those pain points and together with his suggestive questions get you out with your genius level interpretation of what happened and what, if it had happened differently and what can still happen...we have more episodes coming..
Just then there came a flood of information on Drones and I will need to listen to this episode at least 3 more times to get it all. Great and a fun episode surely.

@19:15 or so: The US Marines did demand a jump jet. However, the BASE technology came from the Yakovlev Yak-141. Lookhead "bought" out Yakovlev, which was on life support around 1990. Modified the technology and with the help of BAE/RR developed the lift fan AND the screwing mechanism of the tail (extremely important)(the nozzle of the F-35 swivels during VTOL)

The Alize was an anti- submarine warfare aircraft , not a fighter. It however carried out night strikes on Chittagong and Cox bazaar in 71.

Excellent analysis. One line said it all . If you have a dedicated naval fighter, conversion to an Air Force fighter is much easy as compared to the reverse situation. Makes the TEDBF even more important. Shelve the HLFT idea and concentrate on the TEDBF/ORCA . That would be good for the economics of scale too.

While the Mig29K is an excellent fighter it's availability with regards carrier operations has been very poor. I understood that controlled crashes on the carrier deck screwed up a lot of it's instrumentation. It will however perform excellently if converted to a ground based role.

A Commodore involved in mig29k induction in the Navy elaborated on this acquisition in a podcast (can't remember the podcast or the gentlemen officer unfortunately). When the Navy bought the migs they were aware that the aircraft isn't a matured platform and it had some issues. But what disappointed them was that the Russians practically abandoned the mig29k and the whole naval aviation business in their Navy and they also didn't properly support the further ironing out the issues. Combine this with spare part supply issues and you have a typical hangar queen. In some cases after landing on deck the Navy found out that fuel and oil pipes in and around the engine would break, instruments would go blank and some internal mechanisms jammed.

One thing I was wondering about is, recently everything India wants to buy for USA, whether it's Apaches or f 404 engines all these deliveries for one reason or another have been delayed. Do you have any idea what's going on with MH60R helicopter? Is this deal on schedule?

Sir recently i came across one article which was about a program by HAL to develop India's first twin engine fighter named HF 73 program after the completion of HF 24 Marut but unfortunately the program was cancelled in 1970. This particular piece of information intriguing my mind that what would be the face of Indian Fighters program had we really gone ahead with the project. Hence i request you to kindly devout one episode on those cancelled fighter programs of India and how it has impacted the Airforce.

I think , if the R&D department of all branches of the Indian Military (or DRDO) is directly under the Prime minister . India can allocate fund other than the military budget . In the current budget system R&D's share is very minimal .

We'll have a stealth deck based fighter which might be a demand of the future.

We got the Aircraft Carrier from brits because we had to get more than 1 billion pound sterling from brits for supplying stuff during the war. brits said we will pay you but you would have to pay pensions for British officers who ruled India. Then the remaining money was only paid to India through military purchases.
Remember that during that time we were begging for food from every other country, but brits forced us to take aircraft carriers for the money they owned us.

"Wow, India - the land of endless possibilities... to make money, that is! News channels: let's sensationalize everything for clicks and cash! Politicians: power and riches, please! Bureaucrats: because who needs public service when you can serve your bank account?
And citizens? Well, laws are meant to be broken, right? After all, who needs rules when there's personal gain to be had?
But hey, let's take 30 years to build a fighter jet (Tejas, anyone?) and proudly declare, "We went to Mars!" Meanwhile, our enemies are like, "Uh, nice rocket, but can you defend yourself?"
Priorities, folks! Mars exploration over national security? It's like buying a luxury car while your house is crumbling.
Where there's will, there's a way... unless that will is overshadowed by greed and red tape. Then, it's just, "Hey, at least we tried!"
Let's face it, India: we're experts at excuses, not execution. Time to focus on defending our country, not just our egos."
