It's the absolute high point of my summer when Phil shows up on the scene. I can't imagine a Tour without the voice of this icon in the background. He is the Tour for me. 52 years of excellence.
Phil and Paul were my intro to bike racing in the early 2000s. Remember "dancing on the pedals" and "Suitcase full of courage"? I can't express in words the depth of my love for those times. I even met Paul once at ATOC. Nicest guy in the world. Rest in Peace, buddy.
Phil is amazing. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times, he loves the sport and he loves the fans. HIs knowledge is immeasurable. I found this team up with TJ to be refreshing. See you in the Pyrenees Phil.
Why Remco is even in the conversation? 🤌🤌 Vinge & Poga are above & beyond everyone - including Roglic - yet Roglic manages to beat Remco any given day🤷♂
For one, he's still young and it's his first Tour, so the hype of him finally riding in it is something to talk about. The first time we see him in a Grand Tour against all of the best. He has won many races and won the Vuelta. But yes, this year, he is not at the same level of Tadej and Roglic and probably Jonas (we will see). Honestly Jorgenson has been riding better than Remco IMHO. But maybe he is taking it easy, saving it for the Tour. Whatever happens, there are a lot of star riders this year, and that is going to be fun.
Because he is an incredible talent, and we have never seen him at the tour. He is this generations Jan Ullrich. He wins TTs even when he is sick or injured. He is not to be underestimated.
@@patrickbateman7444 he is an incredible talent, yes, but that’s not what this conversation is about. This is GC at the tour and we have seen that he is nowhere near the level of the top guys in a grand tour with high mountains. He’ll be nowhere close.
Bcuz conversation is all about unrealistic (media) talk, not reality. If it was about reality they would have mentioned Kuss not being there , making UAE by far the strongest (and somewhat unbalanced) climbing team. Visma has the better tactics, Bora has a better balanced team.
This is a great beginning to the Tour de France. You two generally enjoy each other and really have the insight that I enjoy. Chris Horner added would be making this the best. I am unclear why Chris is on the outs, his indepth reports hit the mark? I am excited for all the right reasons and will enjoy this duo! Tejay is Phil's Domestic ;-)
There is only one person who can beat Tadej, and that's Ving. Problem is, Ving has to be 100% healthy to do so. He may have the best team in cycling, but they can't ride the bike for him. So if he's 99% or less, Tadej walks away with another yellow jersey. There is noone else.
Tadej & UAE have a team on par with Visma this year. As long as Tadej keeps his high performance engine fueled he's going to crush the Fantastic Four. Phill's an amazing announcer I miss Steve as well I love those Euro accents. Bobkee & Christian are our 🇺🇸 reps in the big 🇨🇵 epic. 👍🏻🚵♀️💯🇸🇮
Jorgensen is riding better than Kuss currently. I hope that JVin is a definite yes for the GC, so we don't have Matteo or Sepp trying to make time after a week of riding, being that Jumbo realizes JV can't go the full three weeks. Either way this seems to be T.Pogacar year again. The battle for podium should be as exciting as ever. Thanks Phil for being the rock that this race needs year in and year out. RIP Paul, always missed in July! Good job today Tejay.
@38:56 The other sprinters would congratulate Cavendish for sure. But not because he is well liked. 😂 Sagan is well liked, Pogacar is well liked, Chavez is well liked. Cavendish is despised. Maybe not the absolute worse but definitely up there: always whining, yelling at other riders (including teammates) and staff, and self promoting when he couldn’t have done anything without some of the best lead outs of all time.
I'm a huge fan of Pogi, but I think anyone who says that he's as good as Merckx doesn't really understand what Merckx accomplished and how dominant he was in his peak years; maybe they are lying to themselves, which is easy for all of us to do when we're excited. We are watching history being made, again, all we can do it watch it play out and hope that Pogi's health holds up and actually has the chance to pursue more of Merckx's records and Palmarès. An argument could be said that Lemond had the skills and was on a Mecrkx and Pogi like ascent before his hunting accident; we'll never know what Lemond could have done if he returned healthy for the 1987 TDF and beyond. .
A big difference between this years Giro and the TDF. While all the top teams were represented at the Giro, the top riders weren't, so Pogacar wasn't really put under too much pressure or really challenged at any time at the Giro. I do think he might still win the DTF, but it will not be as easy for him as it was in the Giro. Of course Sepp is not riding the TDF.
@@jimwhite4270 That's what's always baffled me, people spending time following cycling, watching videos and what not, then drop comments akin to "they're all dopers". Dude, go do something else, if you think they're all cheaters, go find something else to do with your time.
I like Chris but he’s controversial due to his almost essentially confirmed doping. The butterfly effect is great but he’s also prone to making wrong statements really confidently. That same confidence makes his videos fun to watch, but also many don’t age well compared to a more nuanced approach.
Just give Tadej the yellow jersey now. I cannot believe that Jonas is fully recovered and Sepp is out of it. Without those two it will not be a true competition. There are other great cyclists, but none to compare to Tadej. I'm watching with prayers that Cav completes his goat of 35. Gleeful that Phil is there again YAY!

You do not have to have done it fastest. You can win seconds during the race and sometimes that have been decisive in the end so it´s a bit like tennis in that regard. Last year Jonas timewise killed it but there have been years where one and two had a few seconds between them.
I think an unforeseen player is inevitable. Someone OTHER than those top 4 might just stir things up. Who will be the 5th though? Will they do enough to overthrow the Others? I'm not saying that. Just saying that there ARE more than four horses coming to the Tour!
Well I pray that the tour hasn't set up the course that there's stupid dangers like the last couple, where we lose have the favorites and super domestices in the first week🙏🙏🤞🤷♂

Agreed. Mental. He's nowhere close to the rest in the high mountains. He'll be a stage winner for sure, but he's not going to be competing at GC.
