    I’m a dancer in a community company is Southern California. I have not yet generated enough strength to execute a birdie so an over down is way beyond me right now. I love the exercises you have recommended and I plan to use my winter break to do these. Thank you!

    I'm a martial arts and yoga professional who wants to learn how to do this, and I want to pay you the very highest compliment I can pay any movement arts professional - you are SO talented, as a teacher!!! You really know how to break complicated movements down and emphasize key points. Thanks for sharing what you're so excellent at!

    interesting that irish dancers uses their quads alot - in ballet, like irish dance the legs are turned out. but the emphasis in ballet is to use the butt and abductors to push the leg forward and upwards, once those muscles can't push anymore, the adductors take over and pull the leg forwards and up to carry the motion through and as high as possible. if you're concentrating on using your quads in ballet, the most you can achieve is 110-120 degrees not the 160-175 degrees most advanced dancers are capable of. I did notice when irish dancers do the second leg kick (which is supposed to be higher than the first) they also adopt these mechanics.... interesting differences between the styles :)

      Hi Parisian, That is so interesting! I wonder if are using mechanics that we are not aware of since we are so focused on the look of what we are trying to achieve most of the time as opposed to how it feels in our bodies to execute it the way you do in ballet.

    It would be very interesting if you could make a video about body hygiene (lol that came out so wrong). I refer to a video about how to take care of the joints, ankles, knees, hips, etc. because with so many jumps they tend to suffer a lot. Or even tips on food and nutrition aimed at irish dancers. All your videos are excellent, thank you very much for sharing! Best regards, from Buenos Aires :)

      Good way to learn? If you habe trouble with theae particular exercises you can start with basic leg lifts and work your way up. A really great one (that you will hate if your like me) are frogs. You basically do a squat stamding on your toes and then hop without lowering your ankles. Really works the lower half of the body but you coukd learn a basic skip and hop on HowCast or something and have fun right now. :-) I only managed to pass my beginner soft shoe before Inhad to stop :-( Really hard to keep myself going without a community. Something I've always sucked at. LoL

    I have to thank you so much for your videos! Thanks a lot for your tips!
    The region I live there's no irish dance school and I want to learn it so much! Maybe I'll never dance as well as if i was in a school, but at least i have fun! Thanks, thanks thanks!!! :)
    By the way, don't you teach irish dance online?

    • @MJPAcademyIrishDance
      @MJPAcademyIrishDance  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B&B Thank you so much! So glad I could help! I don't teach classes online because I have a dance studio in Canada. :) But if there is anything you want me to post a video about, let me know.

      Your videos are really nice, you explain things very well, so no matter what they are about, they're all welcome! =]
      But if one day you can post a video about heels and/or fast trebles: Tips to "accelerate" trebles without loosing the "cleaness" of the step, or how to do a heel twisting the foot in a simple way, I'll be glad!

    Any advice on learning how to do a birdie? I've attempted it once, but I some fear landing incorrectly and injuring myself.

    • @MJPAcademyIrishDance
      @MJPAcademyIrishDance  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rae King, In a way, a birdie is almost easier since your landing leg remains underneath you the whole time. So, you lift your front leg up to 90, hold it there, then try kick your bum with your bottom leg. I would start by just lifting your back leg only a little off the ground until you are strong enough to lift it higher. Hope this helps!

      Try just jumping and doing an over23 but holding in the position and landing on the same foot 😄Hope this helped

      They actually do help keep you warm without having to wear a big sweater when teaching.

    • @MJPAcademyIrishDance

      It can give you the height to practice hitting the shape quickly in the air. Probably worth a shot! Swimming pools can work for the same reason. Just be sure to be safe!
