    From Dunnet Head to Wick - Scottish Highlands vlog!
    What a day for it! I was grateful for a bit of sunshine as I travelled from Inverness to Dunnet Head to Wick and eventually back to Inverness.
    The mission was to see mainland Britain's most northern point plus visit Scotland's most northern club... Wick Academy FC! They're an incredible team, completely run by locals who play in the Highland League.

    5,234 km(over 3 thousand miles !) has to be the longest distance to travel for any league game in the world. Wellington Phoenix plays Perth Glory in the Australian A league. (9hrs 40 mins on a plane with I stop in Sydney). Called the long-distance derby, amazingly quite a few fans travel to the game from Wellington and vice versa from Perth. Unlike most derbies, there is utmost respect for the fans traveling, and they all drink with the home teams fans when traveling to their respective grounds. Great vlog by the way.I really enjoy it. I used to love to follow with Scottish league clubs and it is great to see all their grounds. Excellent work. Please go to the stadium of light to see my home team, Sunderland. I miss them being all the way over here in New Zealand.

      Hey Chris, you beat me to it. Thought id be the only one to know about that. Here's another one, Vladivostok FC v Zenit St Petersburg in Russia. Not sure of the distance here but apparently it's 9 time zones away. This match happened a few years back in a Russian cup match. Apparently, the shortest travel time for Vladivostok in the league is a 9 hour flight. Fun and games huh.

    I think Zenit St Petersburg to Vladivostok is the furthest distance travelled for a domestic league game. Its around 6,000 miles each way. Three Zenit fans drove it in 2006 and their car fell to bits and they had to get the trans siberian railway back. The club bought them a new car.
    You are right about how friendly many clubs in Scotland are. I have done the 42 once and now need to do Cove to do it again (seen a game at Kelty), but me and some mates have stopped at grounds while passing to have a look and have been invited in more often then not. Particular shout out to Stenhusemuir who gave us a full tour, Alloa Athletic and Brechin City (who offered us a beer that I had to decline as I was driving).

    • @craigbarnes6864
      @craigbarnes6864 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Connahs Quay won the league this season though. The New Saints are like Berwick Rangers in that the are English but play over the border. They also of course qualify for Europe most seasons,as the top 3 in Wales each season get into either the Champions League or Europa League qualifiers. The New Saints knocked out Zilina of Slovakia last season in a huge surprise. Connahs Quay a few years ago knocked out Kilmarnock. Connahs Quay and The New Saints are the two most successful clubs over the last decade and have a big rivalry. If going to Wales check out Bangor City and Caernarfon Town too. Thats Welsh speaking Wales,and by far the biggest rivalry in Welsh semi pro football. Bangor have an amazing history,played Atletico Madrid one season in Europe. They are in the second tier now,Caernarfon are in the top tier. Barry Town United in South Wales too are worth a visit. The biggest semi pro outfit from South Wales in the Welsh Premier. There is Merthyr Tydfil who are bigger,but they play in the English pyramid,refusing to join the Welsh league.

    I thought that Orkney FC was the most northern team in Britain and are based at tier 6 of the Scottish League system

      There are a couple teams north of Wick in the North Caledonian League. To the best of my knowledge it is an amateur league and not part of the pyramid. If any NCL teams wanted to enter the pyramid though, they would go into the Highland League.
      I think the NCL also has a cup competition that Shetland participates in.
      Edit: Just checked and I think you're correct starting from next season. Back up the road he goes!

    Dunnet Head is the most northern point on the British mainland
    Shetland Islands must be most northern UK place
    Do you mean Wick is the most northerly football team ?

    • @adamdruett9107
      @adamdruett9107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even Thurso FC would take that title. Wick Academy you might class as the most northerly semi professional team. If you could call the Highland league semi pro.

    technically orkney are most northern, and thurso are the most northern mainland team, both in the north caledonian league, sorry to be so pedantic!

    Great video, what a nice bloke the Wick Chairman is. Talking of long distances for teams although Luton Town are quite a centrally located club in England they did drop down to the Southern League Division 2 in the yeara before World War 1 when transport was not much more than Horse & Cart or train (if you are lucky) this league was almost entirely made up of Welsh clubs. Out of 16 clubs 4 were English, Stoke, Croydon, Brentford and Luton Town. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1913%E2%80%9314_Southern_Football_League#Division_Two
