One of the most satisfying things in my long life is to have sung my part, from soring treble as young boy to bass on the back row in various choirs. The clarity of tone of the treble in this video is outstanding.
I really miss Stephen Cleobury after all these years. The Choir will go on and on and on, though, as it has since 50 years before Columbus discovered America. When God likes something it thrives.
Now in my mid-60's, I had the benefit to hear this choir back in 1965, when as a Boy Chorister, I and my fellow Choir Members travelled to Cambridge to hear this First Class Choir. I still get goose-bumps to this day listening to any of their recordings. Sheer perfection.
This should have been recorded one or two summers ago, it’s surreal to watch Sir Stephen Cleobury up there conducting this magnificent piece sung by this incredible choir in the most ethereal chapel. Superb!
My dream is to one day hear this choir in person. So so beautiful, it sounds like heaven - I can only imagine what it must be like when it’s in front of you!!
If you should ever have the opportunity to visit, I hope you will do that. I was an undergraduate at King's in the late 80s and early 90s and had the enormous privilege of listening to the choir, while seated in the College stalls directly behind the choral scholars and choristers, on a near daily basis. This was primarily for the regular sung services during term time, but also included attendance at the Advent Carol Service and the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The acoustics - further enhanced by the visually striking and intimate setting of our glorious Chapel - made for a matchless sensory experience which, to this day in my life, has never been surpassed. Attending a service during twilight, as the sunlight through the stained glass windows gradually faded away and the changing hues of the Chapel subtly transformed its appearance and temperament until only the candle-lit illumination remained, never failed to be a beautiful and mesmeric experience. RIP Clebes; thank you for everything you did for our College in such a tireless, incalculable and yet always understated way. You are missed.
I heard them in the days of David Willcocks.I sat in the choir behind the men, with the organ up to the left. It was Choral Evensong, and I can honestly say that I sang with the Choir of King's College, Cambridge.
Spend a week or two in Cambridge and go to evensong or sung Eucharist every day (except Monday). Sit in different places in the chapel and hear how the architecture itself influences the sound. Sit right next to the choir and hear the individual voices -- also fascinating.
This has to be the most Christ honouring music I've yet heard, and I'm not talking about the words because I don't know them. The musicianship, and Christ exalting discipline these young men are exhibiting is beyond excellent!
I am blessed to have witnessed these set of choristers in february 2019 in person. its a surreal experience i will recommend for any and everyone in person!! RIP Sir Stephen Cleobury♥︎

Christus factus est pro nobis obediens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis. Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum et dedit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen. Christ became obedient for us unto death, even to the death, death on the cross. Therefore God exalted him and gave him a name which is above all names. --Philippians 2:8-9
This appears to have taken 4 or 5 attempts. This can be seen from the lineup changes of position. It is still a beautiful piece and well done to the choir.
Hah! I noticed that too! (Didn't see you comment until now.) Cleobury has always been open about combining takes, but I'd never seen it show up so blatantly in a video...
One can hardly imagine a better performance -- or, I should say, a better amalgamation of takes; notice how the choristers spontaneously re-arrange themselves!

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you Jesus for your obedience and for granting me salvation through your life, death, and resurrection.1 🕊️✝️🔥
RIP Sir Stephen Cleobury - now putting the choir invisible through their paces...

Please pray for it. It is under grave threat.
Outstanding! This choir and the chapel's reverberation are perfect for Bruckner's music.
Pls what that last song called? Someone help me plsss

Heavenly choral music presented by a world-class choir.
