Great video, thank you! Can I ask if I had a side business which is at lost and the rental income is less than £6k, do I need to file self assessment? Thank you.

Hi thanks for the very helpful video, i really enjoyed it. I have a question, i have a penalty for late filling for 2022. However, through this time i have been working full time and paying my taxes as i wasn't self employed anymore. Can my penalty be cancelled as a result of this? Is this a good ground for an appeal?

The very best thing to do is contact HMRC by phone. Despite the negative press they are very sensitive and understanding. They will give you the options based on your circumstances

Thank for your video. I have a small question about interest on late payment. I read that: "interest on additional tax payments due to amendments to a self-assessment and tax payable under a discovery assessment run from the annual submission date to the day before the payment is made." So, why does it not run from the original due date of payment? Thanks in advance.

Hi. What do you mean by 5% of tax due. Is the tax due just the tax payable only or the sum of tax payable as well as the NI contribution

I wasn’t aware I needed to let HMRC that I’m no longer self employed once I moved to a PAYE job. I received a penalty fine for not submitting self assessment during that period I was not self employed.
Can I appeal this or will I need to pay the penalty? 😔😔

You can call HMRC. If they understand your situation they might just well remove the penalty notice. Best of luck with this.

    Hi Simon,
I was working in UK from March'18 to July'18.
I received the returns as well. But After July'18 i left for my native country India.
But I received a penalty letter on 03 Dec'21 for not filing self assessment.
If my previous UK employer already sent p45 to hmrc, do i still need to submit self assessment even if i am not working since July'18.
Pl help me. I am bit worried.

I've been fined over £1000 due to filing my tax return late, I've never been self employed and I'm only 20 studying at uni. I've appealed so many times but the fine keeps increasing. I've called HMRC and they have said I cant do anything about it and I'll need to pay or just wait. I dont know what to do

    Hi,
I'm in a tier4 dependent visa . I came to UK on February 2020. I don't have much idea about the whole tax return assessment. I wasnt employed or earning for almost six months after arrival. I recently got a penalty letter from HMRC for the delay in tax return filing for 2019/2020. Is there any way that I can go for appeal?
