I feel maybe because the new version of the anime (which is wonderful) decided to highlight shigure’s bad traits more openly it’s harder to see that his thing with Mayuko is also yes motivated by him being a dirty dirty man but also because (much like aya who said once he wished Hatori would be 10k times happier than Kana actually) he has been focused on having Mayu stay around and in contact because he knew she had the guts and the feelings to stay there. Her whole thing is being this empath who loved both Kana and HAtori and cried when they couldn’t be happy together even in detriment to her own feelings. I’m surprised that I’ve been going around comment sections of hatori and mayuko videos and the idea that shigure manipulated their every encounter and told her upfront “now it’s up to you” and that he liked her “idiotic” disposition (meaning not giving up on hari when he himself was doing the same with akito given in a way more selfish way) hasn’t come up. To me it’s pretty clear Mayu and hatori don’t see it and think he’s playing them for fun but nah shigure NEVER does things that are not slowly thought out for results he wants even if he enjoys to torture people in the process for his sense of humor. He kept her around for Hatori. Would he have slept with her if she had said something different when she let go off his shirt? Yeah. Would he still be doing it knowing that she’d break up with him and pine for hatori? Yup.
