      I come from a reading family. There was VERY RARELY music played audibly in the house. Books were read at the dinner table, as opposed to watching TV. Growing up, it was common to have more than one copy of a popular book in the house, either through ownership or library rentals.
      As an adult, I definitely have to be in the mood for music, and in general find most music annoying.
      Music is just so slow. Reading you can do at your own pace and use your imagination. Tbh I like reading music more than listening to it.

      I also think a contributing factor my family was a reading family was that my father was not a native speaker, and used reading as a tool to learn English and expand his vocabulary. He often read aloud/with us growing up and is a nice memory.

    No joke, my favourite part of the video is that Garyx calls it “Día de Muertos", which is what it's actually called in Mexico, instead of “Día de LOS muertos", which is what it's called by Americans. Yes, an alien knows the name better than the people immediately north

    Wait a minute. Garyx is right. In this version of the afterlife, murderers like Ernesto and victims like Hector go to the exact same place. And for years, Ernesto’s been living an afterlife of fancy while Hector is pretty much homeless just because of the ways that they were remembered (and lacktherof)!

    I know, it might sound dumb, but I can't help getting weepy when I watch Coco. That movie hit me so hard (atop being so goddamn amazing I seek it out to watch it every few months-odd) that even remembering it and its key scenes brings tears to my eyes.
    Why can't there be more movies with the emotional weight of Coco, crafted such that everything hits where the writers and animators want it to, but not bludgeon you with the message like so many movies try to?

    The Alien interpretation is almost as confusing as the original movie.
    "Be Yourself" is always the message. Then Disney overlays it with other messages, and it becomes, "wha?".

    Isn’t Dante the dog a nod to Dante’s inferno. In this case Dante the dog takes Miguel on a quest through the afterlife like in the divine comedy. Maybe in this case scenario Dante has learned enough from Virgil and now has the capacity to guide others into the afterlife
