The cowboy on stage left is keeping the "heartbeat" rhythm at the end chorus with the butt of his riffle. Which I found a really interesting performance touch.
I love the fact that he said these are the Ghost Riders before they died, and he let them do this song without his supervision. I absolutely love this cover. I had to look up the original by D'Angelo, but this is far superior IMO. Those low notes rumble in my chest. Also, l love that he said they were in front of Daryl's Cafe...lol. Great Reaction Mortius!!
The note at 3:51 isn't 2 voices, it's just one. He's singing in 2 octaves at the same time using subharmonics, so he's singing both the higher and lower octave at the same time. It's not 2 voices layered on top of each other, but just an effect of subharmonic singing.
I wanted to thank you for pointing out that beginning 'rattle'. I was so focused on the lovely beginning guitar strum that the 'rattle'snake would have bit me!
Spoilers for RDR2 This song plays at two points during the game. After Guarma, when Arthur is riding back to camp to look for everyone. And during his death scene as the sun rises.
The Cowboys are back! But this time they are out on their own. It seems like didn’t find the Redemption they were looking for and became Ghost Riders. That’s what happens when Geoff isn’t on hand to keep his eyes on the boys. I like the tie-ins to those cowboys in Ghost Riders in the Sky with the sound of spurs and whistle in the background as well as the lightning strike. There is also a nod to 16 Tons with the rifles being used in the percussion. Also check his ad for Daryl’s Cafe. Daryl is the one in the long leather coat, and he started up his own business apparently. th-cam.com/users/shortsBi0Dngd_d4Y?si=LIb-y0JA1FisvxsF
I have watched my brother play Red Dead Redemption 2. This song would fit right into the game soundtrack. I would be thrilled to see Geoff's characters used as minor characters in the game too. I adore your background. It fits perfectly with the RDR2 theme.
Happy Birthday, Mortius!🥳When this one dropped, I think my neighbours thought there was a small earthquake! 😂I'm not a gamer, so know nothing about the original - but I love this, very 'spaghetti western' feel to it!
So glad Geoff brought back the Riders. I love the cowboy theme. This man is gorgeous and talented. Love your reaction. Hope to see you reacting to Home Free again. They have some new stuff.❤
Happy belated birthday and happy 21k. Woohoo! What a great song to listen to on your birthday, with Geoff showing off his bass and tenor sides. I'm glad I caught the premiere, although late and had to keep pausing and getting up. I really wanted to write that I LOVE the idea of a crossover with you and DJ_410. Let the rainbow energy flow! 🌈
Happy birthday! Geoff referred to this one as a beast because it has over 100 tracks. So glad he let Goff, Daryl, Jeoph, and Jeff out to play... before they did whatever that made them ghosts riding in the sky.
3:44 Fun fact: at least for me, that is (quite close to) how subharmonics sound to my own ear - if I record them, they are regular rumbly subharmonics, but my "internal" (bone conduction) hearing usually highlights the "original" note within the overtones. In fact, I find it impossible to distinguish that higher note in this recording, because it sounds so similar to what I'm used to hearing internally, so it was very interesting to have someone point it out as an added element - I almost wonder if Geoff's perception of his subharmonics is similar and he intentionally mixed this to emulate that sound :) 6:08 Having the backgrounds barely noticeable adds a lot to the "lonely" feeling of the main line in my opinion
I never thought about the difference that bone conduction headphones would make as opposed to over the ear. I am curious to see how that’s going to work for me. I have auditory processing disorder. I don’t always hear sounds the way the other people do or it takes me several listens to catch everything. Doesn’t matter how hard I concentrate. My ears hear it but my brain is trying to figure out what to do with those sound waves. Now I’m going to have to go back and listen to everything with the over the ear headphones and then replay with the bone conduction headphones so I can hear the difference. Gives me a great excuse to listen to everything at least a few more times!
Happy birthday, Mortius! I haven't played the game, but from what I saw somebody else say, it's really easy to miss this song in RDR2. It involves having to steal a horse (or just ride a horse) back to the camp at a specific point. If you're not on a horse, you don't get the song.
Geoff's higher registers have gotten so much better, he sings with them with much less effort and purity now! I also love love the movement in his parts in this song the riffs are as satisfying as the low drops!
Hey, Mortius, I'm a great castelucci Fan, you are a castelucci Fan. I find in You Tube a realy short song by Castelucci..The Name of the song is" Paul Banyen. The Song is famos. The time of the song is 1 Minute and 2 secends. Thanks, and by Heiko from Germany. P.S.:You make a Goodyear work.
Your reaction videos never disappoint, and your facial journeys are always such a treat! Geoff is always such a pro when it comes to new videos/song covers, but they're even better when I know I'm gonna get to watch reaction videos like yours later on!
At 4:17, almost certain that is just subs. They are produced when you sing a pitch and then fry on top of it, creating the subharmonic am octave below the pitch you are actually "singing." It can be more or less clean sounding depending on proficiency (which I know Geoff has in spades) and how it is mixed. Usually its just there for the low end but in its full glory, there is also a clear base tone. Even with all that said, I could always be wrong, but I'm struggling to hear a backing voice at this particular moment
I don't want to add any spoilers for folks who have not played the game yet, but this song plays during a major scene of a character death near the end of the game
Happy belated birthday, Mortius! Happy 21K! (Maybe the song was added as a later "Downloadable content" after you played it? I dunno squat about things like video games; I'm basically at "Bejeweled" and "Freecell solitaire" level).
@Guest.7289 it's at around 6:53, he made a sound effect at G7 for a split second, you here a whistle in the 6th octave and then the sound effect after is 1 octave higher.
I might be alone in this, but I really dislike these "gimmicky" low parts: the notes to my ears simply sound ugly and ruin all the songs where they do it. Example here from this song about what I mean: th-cam.com/video/O5SWT6GCQWo/w-d-xo.html By Voiceplay, another good example is Nothing else matters, where in some parts Geoff does those same notes and it just sounds blargh to me. :) Technically he is obviously brilliant, I just wish he used his beautiful part of the bass voice, and stayed away from those ugly notes.
The cowboy on stage left is keeping the "heartbeat" rhythm at the end chorus with the butt of his riffle. Which I found a really interesting performance touch.
And a neat echo back to "16 Tons" and the tools!
You should remember Geoff isn't here, just the living embodiment of the Ghost Riders in the Sky - all 4 of them.
With or without beard and or moustache Geoff is one fine looking gentleman and of course his voice is out of this world.
Mortius, you're my favorite a capella reactor because you're equal parts technical knowledge and fanboy energy. 😂

Because he left them unsupervised, they ended up in serious trouble which led them to chasing the Devil's Herd for eternity.
@@sureevoltz4120 Exactly!! lol
Geoff unleashed his inner subwoofer again in this one, and it's AWESOME.
“The harmonies were squishy and crunchy” Typical Mortius giving eloquent insight. Just teasing. You know i love you birthday boy.

His cover of a song called Unshaken had my introvert, Ace self shaking, on multiple levels😈🤪
Thanks for your insight, humor and heart❤❤
Why does Geoff do anything? To catch you out. He is never predictable. :)

I'm not a gamer but this is an awesome performance of a fascinating song. Your analysis was great. And, happy birthday!

Happy birthday!❤❤
Happy belated birthday Mortius.
This is so awesome. Nice to see you again. It was fun
The first note that you thought was two voice is I think just a subharmonic
Great reaction, thank you.

You should also know by now Geoff likes to be seriously unconventional- like the "rattling noise" is - locusts.
D1-G7 is insane though
