- SR 34067 Tangmere was at the helm of the first Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express of 2025 from London Euston to Carlisle via the West Coast Mainline over Shap .The morning leg sees 34067 approaching Shap Summit with not much assistance from the diesel on the rear . Later on in the afternoon we see 34067 charging through Kirkby Stephen with the late afternoon making for a lovely sight. Thanks to Nige for the lift and great company as always.Great to have the company of young Philip and his mum today .Please follow this young chap Philip as he’s a future generation of steam enthusiasts. / @michaeltaylor1869
Outstanding videography love it ❤
Spot on Steve nicely captured, it worked out better than expected with Tangmere putting in the effort and improving conditions later in the day for a nice charge through KS, cheers 👍
Cheers Nige , considering I couldn’t get motivated the Spam Cam did better than we thought 👍
Lots of hammering from Tangmere's valves and cylinders today, but its certainly got some strength back with the diesel looking to be doing nowt. Great shots as per usual Stephen!
Thanks for the kind words as they’re much appreciated and yes she was making a racket .
Brilliant video! nice to see you again at Kirkby Stephen Steve!
Glad you enjoyed it Mathew and it was great to see you again and have a good crack 👍
Great video Steve, its a pity we did not get a chat today, you were busy speaking to Bob while I was speaking to Nige. We were really lucky as the light turned out to be really good for the over the wall shot.
Thanks Alistair, yes sorry I didn’t get to chat with you but I’m sure we can catch up soon 👍
Good to see that you are out and about as usual Steve, great shots as ever.
Much appreciated Ralph , hopefully things will improve stock wise 🙏
@@TheStephengthompson We can but hope. 🤞
Excellent footage there Steve of Tangmere in action. Its good to see you filming steam again.
Cheers Andrew , it was a great show from Tangmere which we weren’t expecting to be honest .
My goodness, that sound. Wonderful. Great video again Steve.
Glad you enjoyed it Michael 🙂
Some great views of Tangmere in action Steve, great to see WCME back again. Cheers, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff , certainly a great opener just a shame next week is cancelled 😟
Nice shots Steve, decent climb of Shap and plenty of clag
Thanks Austin, considering I was finding it hard to get motivated it turned out pretty good 🎥👍
Cheers steve, great video, it turned into a great day!
Glad you enjoyed it Angus, certainly was a great day I must admit 😊plus
Tangmere working well Steve, you even caught some nice sun in your shots, very nice filming, cheers . 🎥
Glad you enjoyed it Steve , lucky with the sun I must admit just a shame I didn’t do the Waitby shot as the light was superb 👍
Steve, Not much sign of fitting air brakes to other locomotives in the fleet so good old Tangmere has all the hard work. Great captures. Regards, John
Thanks John , pretty sure the plan isn’t to fit air breaks to the other engines from the grapevine.
Nice video Steve :)
Glad you enjoyed it Simon 😊
What a wonderful start to the season. Great to see the spamcan back in action. Well done Steve wonderful video. 🤓
Glad you enjoyed it Anthony 👍
A superb collection of shots mate!
Must of been cold up there
Thanks Liam , it was a bit fresh I must admit plus I forgot my gloves 😟
Excellent video Steve .Great performance by Tangmere. Great to see her again back in action. Enjoyable watching. Kind regards C&A
Many thanks C&A , it was a better show than we expected I must admit 👍
Great action and well captured as per usual, even some sunshine. Good to see Tangmere back on the rails with plenty of work ahead in 2025 👍🙂
Glad you enjoyed it David, it was a great display from the engine and crew I thought.
An absolute pleasure to meet you and nige Steve thanks for a lovely day out and thank you very much for the invitation and I hope we can do it again. Like I always say Stephen Thank you very much for uploading your lovely video I will be uploading my videos and I will let you know when there on. Thanks very much Philip

Great coverage Steve a good day yet again and Tangmere performing well. Thanks Brian
Cheers Brian , certainly a great display from Tangmere 👍
Nice to see the start of the steam tour season. Excellent video. 👍
Thank you very much Allan, it was a great start I must admit 👍🎥
Great shots as usual, Stephen. I too thought the exhaust beat was sounding little bit syncopated, but she was going well with the diesel doing very little.
Thanks Martin , must say she did sound a bit odd 😟
Brilliant videoing steve nice to see steam back on track 😊
Thanks Graham, it was a better show than I expected I must admit 👍
Nice Steve and good start to the season. Hoping for some variety this year.👍
I hope so too David 🤞
I was at Kirkby Stephen below you on the platform. I had booked to travel on the RTC trip on 8th February which was cancelled due to low bookings. I went on The Peaks Express to Derby in October and the experience of Mk2 stock was not a good experience - no sound or smell of the locomotive especially returning in darkness. This may be a factor in low interest in the cancellation and possibly future trips. We all know the numpty at the root of this!
Thanks John , it’s a shame next week has been cancelled as I was looking forward to seeing 45212 .
I fully agree with you. The on-board Mk2 experience was a big disappointment to our party last year we predicted that passenger numbers are bound to drop off. The stubborn lack of investment is a major mistake. Tangmere sounded like it could do with some TLC on its values too!
Lovely ex SR bob unrebuilt 1:02
Cheers John 👍
Many thanks for the video however, not much assistance is some assistance and anyone who knows anything about the sound of a West Country will know straight off it is being pushed. It sounds almost as if its missing a beat and that is because its being pushed. As simple as that and that is why i will not pay good money to be pushed up hill and down dale by a diesel regardless of whats on the front.
Thanks Bill , I know where you are coming from so hopefully things will change soon 🤞
We got pushed all the way to Scarborough last year behind Tangmere so much so that the tender was still full of coal when we arrived
@@markpeers4226I remember that day very well Mark although the reason it was pushed that day was out of West Coast hands as Network Rail insisted that Tangmere didn’t do any work as there was a red fire risk warning in place 😟
Sounds to be a bit "off beat" or do all un-rebuilt Bulleid pacifics sound like this when notched up?
Thanks Michael, don’t think she was supposed to sound like that I must admit 🤷
@@TheStephengthompson If you consider that the Bulleid Chain driven valve gear has two chains to drive it, it might be that one of them has jumped by a couple of teeth or maybe if the've had it apart they haven't timed it correctly. It's a bit like a car engine camshaft drive - you've got to line the timing marks up when fitting the chain or the results can be disastrous and expensive. You'll get away with it with a Bulleid but this might be the result!
She seems to be sounding a little Gresley-esque, if you know what I'm saying, but she was certainly putting in the effort there. Pity that the smart blue & grey Mk 2 rake is getting mixed up with WCR maroon, though, perhaps, a little bit.
Thanks Andrei , I know what you mean sound wise and like you say was certainly doing the lion’s share of the work 👍
She doesn't sound right, like she's off beat? Nice footage.
Thanks Colin, did sound a bit off I must admit 🤔
Have Tangmere's support crew learned nothing? I predicted the engine's previous failure some weeks before it happened, because of its awful off-beat exhaust. Whilst it does sound slightly better now, the valve setting is not even close to where it needs to be. And if it left like this it will smash another cylinder, you mark my words. To hear what it should sound like find the YT video of Tangmere taking 11 unassisted out of Weymouth in, i believe, 2010, filmed by Clemea04. That is a different beast altogether, and the power output is phenomenal.
Thanks Derek, I’m not an expert re valve timing etc so can’t really comment 🤷
