It's actually not Izayoi. In the original Japanese pre-mission text it explains Rikimaru picks up the sword after traveling through the portal. Izayoi was left behind by Rikimaru in Tenchu 1 and it returns in the Limestone Cavern mission.
this game was like the real simulation ninja game! i hated that part when you had to equip yourself with that bloodsucking sword,, creepy ass fiends,,,
