Rose Vampire the canvas is not a tattoo artist. they wouldn’t have known that dry skin affects a tattoo. the artists should have done their jobs by examining him as well as speaking to him before just jumping in. it’s their fault not to mention their terrible attitudes. if they’re as good as they say they are, they should be able to adapt to any situation. for example, taking a second to look at the man’s skin and talking him into a different location.
God The Savior No, not "everyone knows it". I didn't and many people probably don't either. I'm not a tattoo artist who knows that different skin type can affect the work, the tattoo artist knows since it's his job. And who tells me that I have a stage 4 cancer and I'm not doing well? a doctor, someone who studied this shit. Just beacuse they tell me that I have a stage 4 cancer doesn't mean I know what the hell is going on or what that means. Not everyone has the privileged to get to know this stuff.

Right? The Medusa in the screenshot was the reason I watched this. Also, respect for an artist who puts something they believe in and their canvas likes, over something their judges would prefer.

@@mermaidmomma then your one of the few. I'm also in the CS industry and I judge people all the time. I'm going to be polite to them, but there are many people that are just straight up morons. One person cannot for the life of them understand why we cannot accept a return of a product during a pandemic, or another one questions why we check the serial number of Televisions that are returned.
Everybody judges everyone. That's human nature. You just gotta learn when to keep your mouth shut.

I agree, but I do think the guy should have said something. For example, I have a skin condition on my arm and I wouldn't want to get it tattooed without telling the tattoo artist first. Just like you should tell the artist if you bleed easier than normal or if you've had alcohol recently. His burns are basically a condition.
Its what got him fucking eliminated, you cant tattoo the same on rough skin as normal he has every right to be pissed for getting the short end of the stick in a competition, quit thinking with your heart and pull your head out of your ass.
As a client you have to tell your tattoo artist if you have any skyn condition, so they can adapt before they start tattoing.

If I got a tattoo on here and the judges said it was bad or what was wrong with it, I'd regret it immediately
I wouldn't go on any show for a tat, you know they're rushed and stressed so they're bound to fuck up somewhere.
A lot of people are ok with a blown out line or a teeeeny wobble in color. They're generally nitpicking small things that most people wouldn't notice. Now the ønes that put extra fingers or two right feet... different story. I don't expect perfect tattoos, and try to keep in mind that unfortunately stuff gets fucked up sometimes no artist is 100% on 24/7
But like I said, I'm talking small areas or small mistakes nothing huge. I'm also picky about the stencil part so maybe that's why I'm so laid back about it. People know going in that these are timed, but it's not like you can't get a tattoo finished or touched up. I guess this is a subjective thing.

It's a crime that Daniel went home before Jeremy. Jason's defense of Daniel in the bottom was spot on: he doesn't tattoo like a 2-year tattooer, and Jeremy doesn't tattoo like a 15-year tattooer.
Daniel's tattoo reads better than Jeremy's, but Daniel's technical application on that tattoo was unacceptable.

We had something similar in my art course with negative space. Simple is never to simple because that is the brief. many people failed because it wasn't simple
They mean simple as in don’t overthink it, not simple as in lack of effort and do the minimum.
There’s a difference between going simple and safe simple, one connects with everything it flows well the safe simple is like a kids coloring book is just to open no flow

Robbery. The competition was on *composition* in which Jeremy lack completely with the triple-layer he had going on, and the wolves tattoo-- a copy of something small and large doesn't show much strong composition.
Daniel's, however, made complete sense, a bear walking across a waterfall-- and very well done.
His canvas having difficult skin should not have been the deciding factor for this competition's elimination based on the presented theme!
Seriously. He actually managed to do something despite the canvas. If they’re going to throw impossible skin types into the choosing to make the skull picks more intriguing they better fucking reward people who manage to mitigate the effect of the skin itself on the tattoo. Make them high risk, high reward.
They went on technicals. and Jeremy floored Daniel when it came to that.
I will admit that Ryan Ashley is my fav tattoo artist in ink master history, but I’ve never loved a tattoo more, in ANY season of this show, than Jason’s medusa- it’s incredible. Juan’s is really cool and incredibly well done, but Jason’s is almost ethereal in its beauty

It's ridiculous Daniel went home. His tattoo was much better than Jeremy's. The tentacles and helmet were a clusterfuck. But kudos to Jason for standing up for Daniel during the elimination, he was right that the guy has only two years of experience and had made a huge progress and that nobody with only two years of exp would had done the tattoo as well as Daniel, while Jeremy is supposed to have 15 years and his tattoos are stale and the same every week.
I also saw somewhere (probably instagram) that the tattoo Jeremy did in this episode was copied from another artist.
Are you kidding? He met the standards of the competition but that tattoo was complete horse shit. Nice for a painting, but hell I would not want that on my body forever
Jeremy's tattoo was one of the more confusing images but you cannot argue his technical application is way better than Daniel's. Daniel's tattoo was quite stagnant and stiff yet it was clear as hell what it was, but his technical application was unacceptable and unforgivable.
Justice for Daniel. He did not deserve to go home.
Often when I watch these videos I think I’d never want to get a tattoo on this show. They quite often say pretty rude stuff about the canvases and then you also have all the rival competitors dissing the tattoo you’re getting (you might not overhear it but you’d see it when you watch it back) And after it all you’re left with this permanent reminder of a shitty experience. No thank you.
I've often thought the same thing. If I had one done in a comp, i would wear noise cancelling headphones to the judging and never watch it back

If we’re talking about beautiful use of “negative space” in art, go no further than Mike Mignola, his work on hellboy is outstanding.
Man, I would hate to be tattooed in a situation where the artists are uncomfortable and you get your body art judged.
But those artists are so great. Some works could be better but full respect for them tattooing in that stressful environment and their skills are so fine.

I actually loved the Nautical piece. It'll bleed into the negative space fairly naturally, versus the others which will end up blurry, it'll look almost like its engulfed in water which is really cool. The space allows for more legibility as the time goes forward whereas the others which were so tight leading to blurriness in the future as the tattoo ages. Also, dry skin guy wasn't at fault. Everyone has ashy legs at some point, and shaving the skin doesn't help against it, which they had to do. Hopefully he left with a tattoo he loved and the creams they use to heal the tattoo help against the troubled skin as well.
I didn't like the decision just because daniel's canvas had super dry skin. The waterfall was criticized for being much too simple but daniel could not have afforded to be very detailed because the skin gets traumatized so easily.

The simplest and sickest negative tattoo I've seen is a universe tat done with a negative stars and planet with a blackout background. Sick slick and definitely negative. Might want a little white on linings on the stars to make it glow

To be honest........ everyone judges harshly and it makes sense, they are pros, but all the work was awesome!!! Negative space tattoos are soooo cool!!!!!! I loved the medusa one.. Doing the snakes like that?! I feel like I have never seen it before so I was super impressed!!

Tattoo artists really shouldn't talk about how much they hate the tattoo they're doing and how badly it's going. Keep your mouth shut and fix it, you're an artists, it's your job to make art that's going to live on people forever, don't freak them out. I've been in many situations where I'm doubting my abilities and if the tattoo isn't going as I thought it would so I have no idea how it's going to turn out anymore, but I'd never express that out loud and freak my client out so that they no longer trust me. Confidence is key.

to everyone saying they’re being mean to the guy with the dry skin, he didn’t mention he had burnt his leg once and it dries up quicker because if he had then the tattoo artist would’ve highly suggested to tattoo elsewhere to pull off a cleaner tattoo and to not tattoo on damaged skin

I'm late at on this but Jeremy's tattoo is great. He may have conflict with the judges idea of what they would have done but he pulled off clean lines and an understandable NEGATIVE SPACE tattoo. I'm still young and have a lot to learn but if I were in the navy I'd wear it

The best tattoo artists don’t need to go on these shows because they have waiting lists. Also most of the best artists specialise in one or two styles. They are not jack of all trades.
They’re all like “Oh it looks shit” and I’m just over here thinking “That actually looks pretty good”
