Can’t wait to try many of your suggestions. I think the green zebra will be awesome for puttanesca, my favorite pasta dish - I use the recipe from a family Italian restaurant that I used to work at. Appreciate all the information!🍅👨‍🌾👩‍🌾🍅

I grew sudduth's pink brandywine this season. I tried it perfectly ripe with no blemishes. About 1 lb. It was creamy and much better than store bought but I didn't think it was anything to rave about. Cherokee purple tasted the most complex to me, that one caused a bit of a spasm to my taste buds. Next season I will grow sun golds. I think those will really live up to the hype.

Keep in mind that watering/rain and temperature significantly influences tomato flavour. My Sudduth's Brandywine tomatoes were almost tasteless this year, but also my Cherokee Purples, because we had a hot summer and I needed to water every second day (usually I'd water about once a week). Previous years my Sudduth's Brandywine had more intense flavour than any other varieties I grew (even though it does not have the complexity of dark or green varieties). It can change through the season too. So don't place too much importance on one taste test.

Totally love sungold. Even better tasting than Gardeners Delight imo, if you tried them. I have 8 tomato plants this year and their all sungold. Usually i tend to have atleast 3-4 varieties but this year my whole gardening effort started a few months late and mom had extra plants for me. She totally love sungold too.
Their only downside is that they are F1 hybrids so saving seeds gives you something else.

@@jayduplessis7698you are so right about rain and even watering can change the taste instantly on a tomato i Larned this last year and something I'm trying this year is when you get ready to pick a tomato don't water it for 3 days before picking it to get the full flavor of the tomato also sweetness.

You might try a variety called Cream Sausage next time. It is a yellow paste tomato.

Had to chuckle at the logic of a 7 being average on a scale of 1-10.. surely it would be 5? Then got lost with it changing to a scale of 1-5 then a b c d.. 🙈🤣 but enjoyed watching though and hearing your thoughts on this assortment 👍🏼
    And yes, Karen Oliver!

Lol, the whole scale was a mess. I'd say the average heirloom is a 7. The average hybrid not bred for flavor is a 5.

Fig trees - Do you cut off branches now that have fruit which won’t ripen in time? To allow tree to focus on the bigger fruit?

I think that Taiga tomato should've been named Picasso or maybe Dali. I've never seen anything like it. Cool.

Nice tasting! You really have a similar tomato taste to mine. But this surely was not a true Gary O Sena, as you said it should look more like a Black Krim.

Did anyone catch the name of the tomato that he thought was for stuffing? He called it something-stew? Seemed to like it and had potential. It comes in at about the 24:26 minute mark.

Thank you Ross. Your tomato review was a long time coming. I agree with you about Brandywine but mine was a bust this year. Black Krim and Paul Robeson have been consistently intensely flavored and disease resistant for me. My paste tomatoes were a total bust this year as well (Opalka, Polish Linguisa). I will try Black Cherry next year per your recommendation. I grew Brad's Black Heart from Wild Boar farms and it was good but hardly produced.

    Try Lauras Bounty paste tomatoe.
Dwarf tomatoes from Dwarf Tomato Project will save u lots work, space, garden light.
To beat Orange Banana LAURAS BOUNTY might be a good choice from D.T.P.
It looks like O.B. & because it is c>(rossed with Orange Bananna) but also with Kangaroo Paw Brown &Purple Russian.
Purple Russian looks like a roma but tastes like a heirloom with a sweet flavor.
Whereas Paw Brown is a cross between Budai Torpe &Cherokee Green.
Try Boronia to match thbest beefsteak.
I like German Lunchbox as a paste. It has a thing that when u add salt to it it comes very alive.
Green Zebra alternative = JADE BEAUTY. It is a cross of Green Giant & Golden Champion Dwarf.
