    Hi TM - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. My 2 year old yellow Monkey has done 6000 miles. I cleaned the oil filter out at 600 miles and was amazed at the debris removed - at 4000 miles there was very little. I change the oil every 1000 miles and also swap over the chain, which is cleaned and boiled in grease in readiness for the next swap. First gear in too high for slow speed off road use - I would love an ultra low first gear. I would prefer a read drum brake for ease of cleaning and maintenance, which would also declutter the rear wheel area. Rear shocks are way too soft and non adjustable - an amazing error for a company that has produced millions of bikes. I also keep a close eye of the mudguards. It will cruise all day at 50mph and give 148mpg. I now potter about at 35/40mph and get 177mpg. The Monkey brings back the essence of motorcycling for me - the freedom to travel anywhere and the enjoyment of the open air.

    6000 miles on mine. Ohlin shocks….Yoshimiru full exhaust….new air intakes…..stock Honda rear pegs.….flashed ecu….Tail clean up…..and some ginger bread stuff. Bought the service manual and follow the schedule and the Monkey runs great.

    Thanks for your informative video. I sprayed lanolin oil inside mudguards, but didn’t know the gap in rear fork, what is potential rust place, until you showed it. Your rear fork is powder coated with yellow, mine 2022 model has a it black, even my bike is yellow, too. Can you legally carry passenger with Monkey in UK? Monkey is rated rider only in Australia.

    I bought a couple of small sheets of clear paint protection film off EBay to make some invisible tank pads! I also did a headlamp lens protector, an then cut a bit to cover the troublesome holes you mentioned! Up untill that point I had put black tape, then yellow tape over the holes, but clear PPF is definitely the way to go, and costs nowt. I also cut a tiny bit of yellow plastic off some tiny wire, and slid it over the part of the clutch spring that touches the engine cover, before it cuts through the paint, and starts festering✅

    I love your mods that go well with the banana yellow version, does your insurance cover pillion, as I thought you wouldn't be able to add pillion pegs and use it as a two's up vehicle without a certified inspection and approval? ...as doesn't the log book state solo person? I just asked same question to someone that's done same thing to a Honda Zoomer 50 which is what I have, but they previously used it as a paddock bike so I guess it's not strict on regs? I'd be interested to know if there are any hoops you have to jump through to add pillion possibilities, thanks

    I have a Skyteam monkey 125 for my motorhome I just about took it apart to rust proof it, specially the mudguards, would like one of these though because of their inherent reliability. Sadly just a bit to big, if only they had folding handlebars like the original the Skyteam is based on. Great video and review as these like the MSX125 I had a few years ago was so moch fun.

    I had this exact model year & color. Put 6k absolutely trouble free miles on it... then stupidly traded it in on a larger bike. Talk about regrets😢. Now I'm looking to get another, but I'm hearing a bit of gripes about the new 5 speed transmission. 2nd gear burning up the bits in there and making a horrid noise. So the early year models like yours seem much safer. Plus the color you have is the best in my opinion.

    • @TerrysezE36
      @TerrysezE36  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I couldn't agree more - fortunately, I've got my GSX S750 to use as well but the Monkey still puts a bigger smile on my face. I understand that the 4 speeds can be tuned more due to bigger piston and barrel?
      👍

    • @findingneutral
      @findingneutral 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TerrysezE36 I'm pretty positive I read that about the piston & barrel... good point. Only thing I do to my bikes it just swap out the header and exhaust. I never fiddled with the engine because I can break things. I also have a Honda CB500X, Yamaha XT250 (converted to SM), and a Honda Trail125. Really like them all... but love(d) the Monkey. The Monkey is literally the most comfortable bike off the showroom floor I've ever ridden. But I'm short and weigh a buck fifty so that helps. I'll have another one day soon 🤞

    • @TerrysezE36
      @TerrysezE36  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@findingneutral Same as me lol, I can change an exhaust, air filter and bolt on mods, beyond that I'd probably be screwed. I'm only 5' 7" myself and can get my feet flat on the ground with the Monkey - another reason I like it so much - not forgetting the big Marshmallow seat of course.
      😄

    • @findingneutral
      @findingneutral 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TerrysezE36 Haha awesome. I'm not alone. Yeah, that seat is absolutely amazing. I have spent serious bank on a Corbin for my 2 big bikes and then had my Trail125 seat professionally reupholstered (to mimic a Monkey seat). None of them beat the oem Monkey seat in comfort nor looks. Ugh, I've got to get me another Monkey bike soon 😥.

    The Monkey is classed as a singe seater. Bikesure and Hastings both said insurance invalid if you try to carry a pillion.its the reason I bought a Dax to keep it company 😊maybe right in other countries but in UK, its a no. Probably due to the 105kg max weight limit also.
