  • In September and October, I traveled to Virginia and Pennsylvania for 6 and a half weeks. At the beginning of the trip, I went to Altoona, Pennsylvania, for "N-Scale Weekend." Along with that event, I enjoyed a number of other railroad and model railroad activities while in Altoona, including Horseshoe Curve, the club of the Altoona Association of Model Railroaders, and the Railroaders Memorial Museum. In this video, I tell you about these activities so that you can enjoy them as well, if you travel there.

Hey Roy, Glad to see you looking good and stepping back on "Home Turf" again in the Keystone State my friend. I appreciate you posting the Vid and
documenting the visit. I'm hoping to attend next year as the weekend for Altoona has moved away from the Forksville Weekend. After seeing all the Vids posted,
I'm envious of all who got to go. It is truly a celebration of N-Scale Model Railroading with a lot of great people in attendance.
God Bless & Happy Holidays to you and yours !!!!

Hi Roy, Thanks for uploading the video and it was great to finally me you and your wonderful wife in person at the Altoona N Scale Weekend. Hopefully we'll meet again at another show in the near future. I think it's neat when the various short line and regional railroads pay homage to fallen flags. The North Shore's Erie Lackawanna inspired paint scheme on SW1500 1944 looks great. What's interesting is I may have worked on that locomotive back when it was still NS 2211. Cheers, Rich S.

Great video Roy. I didn’t realize there was so much train stuff to do in Altoona. Now that I think about it, one of the offset duplicators I operated way back in the day, the AB Dick, had there Townsend Industry’s T-51 Head made there. That company is long gone today. I’m pretty sure 🤔I can talk my wife into a visit there next year. That really is a beautiful state. Thanks buddy!

Great video Roy & great that you’re back. I went to Rail fair 2022 at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale which is an hour, fifteen minute ride from where I live at in Casa Grande. I go there every year except in 2020 due to the pandemic. I’m running my trains more now that the weather is nicer. I rotate my trains & locomotives on my layout as I’m gradually acquiring more double track sections as I will be expanding it and also do a lot of wiring as I strategize work on my layout. Have a Happy Thanksgiving as it will be Thanksgiving in a few days.

So glad you visited Altoona. Altoona has attracted railfans from around the world. There’s more to come in Altoona in the future. The Railroaders Memorial Museum is restoring a Pennsylvania Railroad K4s steam locomotive no. 1361 to operation, which is currently inside the roundhouse. Once the 1361’s restoration is completed, it will tour Pennsylvania and beyond with PRR passenger cars for excursions and with baggage cars to display exhibits of Altoona’s history (basically a traveling museum on wheels).

My only regret is that I didn't have a chance to see you subsequently or go to your house to see your layout again. But I'm confident that we will be able to get together again when I make my next trip to PA, and I'm hopeful that will be next May-June. It's ironic that you should mention doing a tour of my layout because, as it turns out, I'm working on just such a video right now. With any luck, I will be able to upload it by next Saturday. Despite my catches at the curve I wish I hadn't gone to Altoona then. Almost had 2 Headon collisions driving down on 2 hours of sleep which took 5 hours. Missed the show and both people I drove down to meet, one liked my post asking where he was but he never answered me. Then almost fell asleep several times on the way back, did $150 damage to my car hitting a deer, almost hit a couple other vehicles out of fatigue. Probably will be a long time before I go back, and if I do it won't be to try and meet anyone.
$250 spent that I didn't have to get a few trains and almost kill myself.
