Time-lapse movies shows trains that are actually moving very slowly and carefully. It is amazing how reliable 1800's railroad technology still is today, even when tracks are not properly maintained. Buckling of continuous steel tracks happens when temperatures change throughout the seasons, causing expansion and contraction of the tracks. Proper tracks are laid in sections with breaks between the sections so that expansion has room to occur. When expansion has this room, there is no buckling of the tracks. This applies also to some pavements and roads for cars and trucks.

Половина из "самых ужасных дорог" является техническими узкоколейными дорогами для вывоза торфа с мест добычи. Они перекладываются по несколько раз в год с места на место и нет смысла их делать как постоянные грузопассажирские магистрали. пару раз мелькали дороги явно не на территории России и даже не в СНГ. У нас не используются тепловозы такого типа как были показаны.

This is an example of badly made or badly maintained tracks. They were straight originally, but since they were set up on uneven earth with no compacted gravel (or sometimes even ties), as the earth settled around the rails, the trains pressed and warped the rails into the settling earth.

I work at the German Tüv (Technical Inspection Association), and check cars, trucks for their proper functioning. Since such videos are always pretty funny for me. ^^ But where such conditions exist, the rule is: "Oh!, it'll work out somehow!" And often the ability to improvise is really impressive.

The climate does a lot of this damage from excess heat and excess cold. The tracks expand and the rails need space to expand in the heat.
