  • Hello friends, here is the link to my new UDEMY Course on 5G Technologies, Architecture And Protocols and all other courses
    drmoazzam.com/...
    This video briefly explains all the major subsystems (architecture) of a GSM network. We differentiate between the access network (Base station subsystem) and core network (Network Subsystem). Then we detail various functional blocks of these subsystems and their working, like:
    BTS (Base Station)
    BSC (Base Station Controller)
    TRAU (Transcoding and Rate Adaption Unit)
    MSC (Mobile Switching center)
    IWF (Inter Working Function)
    HLR (Home Location Register)
    VLR (Visitor Location Register)
    AUC (Authentication Center)
    EIR (Equipment Identity Register)
    OMC (Operation and Maintenance Center)
    We also also differentiate between International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI)

    great explanation, but i just to add an info; i.e, the new architectures now allow the the OMCs to be connected directly to the BTSs directly.

    Hi Dr. Moazzam, first of all, thanks for the way how your share your valuable information, I'm a telecommer with a M. Eng and I still find this as gold. I just wanted to make an appreciation, in 12:35 you're explaining the relation of the different Data Bases with the MSC, and makes me wonder if the OMC could be considered as a data base?
    Thanks again.

    • @dr.moazzamtiwana4743
      @dr.moazzamtiwana4743  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, OMC could be considered as a database, as the alarms and performance reports from the network can be stored in its database.

    Thank you Mr. Tiwana for uploading such a easily understandable video. I have two questions though.
    1. GSM is a circuit switched network while UMTS, LTE involve packet switched functionalities. Does that mean that, when one subscriber is engaged in a call in GSM, the channels allocated to him is fixed during the entire time of the call process, while in 3G and 4G, the channels allocated to the user is not fixed, and voice and data can travel through different channels based on channel condition?
    2. If 4G is an all IP system, does that mean it runs on Internet Protocol (IP) and every device gets an IP address?
    Thanks again for the video.

    • @dr.moazzamtiwana4743
      @dr.moazzamtiwana4743  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) In GSM Voice channels are fixed if you are not doing frequency hopping.
      2) In 3G you have separated entities in core network to handle Circuit switched and packet switched calls. Circuit switched call is handled in similar manner as GSM.
      3) Yes, in 4G the Mobile gets the IP address everytime it makes a call, however it is a private IP address.

    my doubt is about frequency usage.
    if no neigboring cells should have same carrier frequency ,den the mobiles which work in the same cell will use same carrier frequency,in dat case is der interference b/w two mobiles?if NO ,Y?IF YES y?

    • @dr.moazzamtiwana4743
      @dr.moazzamtiwana4743  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no interference in a cell. For more details refer to my video on What are frequency bands of GSM and another video on frequency reuse in GSM
