In the starter packet of blades, there are broader tabs at one end of the blades (an area with no cutting teeth), except for the side cutter with no tab (has teeth from top to bottom). If you look at that broader part of the blade, you'll notice 3 different lengths of those tabs. The one with the longest tab is the metal cutting blade. The medium tabbed blades are for fine wood an the blades with the shortest tabs are for wood and plastic. The company I bought mine from actually sent a copy of blade outlines and their usage.
I noticed the different lengths of those top shafts within minutes of opening the package. Seems to be some type of standard since all share those lengths for their blades as well.
Just had this scroll saw for Christmas, thought I'd look to some videos before I get started. Your videos are perfect! Totally right that this has been brought with no woodwork knowledge, thank you for making the effort to working out what blade is what!
Your bang on with the identity of the blades. How do I know; I went onto the Dremel site and looked to order more blades and when they came I matched them to the ones in the packets. For storage I put them in some 6" test tubes with lids from Amazon at less than £3 for 10 and labelled the tubes. Think your idea of coloured nail varnish is a good one and I will be marking them individually as well . . . . in case I ever drop them !! Excellent vid for what would be most likely beginners etc with limited knowledge to start with.
Brilliant thank you so much just starting on my wood cutting journey to make doll furniture for my Grand daughter I am a complete beginner and the videos made for experienced people leave me feeling inadequate. Keep up the great work it is truly appreciated x
I have always found Dremel to be a really substantial company and at the top of their game. Excellent video to help sort out which blade is which. Much needed advice, but sad that a company as big as Dremel, didn't get their act together on this one.
Hi there, thanks for the insightful videos. Can you suggest one I can watch that demonstrates this tool cutting through metal as I can't find any? Thank you. X
My motosaw keeps on lifting my plexiglass (2mm). I use MSSB51 for wood and plastic blade as suggested by Dremel. I set the speed to 6 and still lifts it whenever I cut it. I also tried scoring the plexiglass first but still no success. I could force holding the plexiglass down but i already broke one of the blade doing that. So I'm technically using a new blade. I also poured a small amount of mutli purpose oil on the blade, and it still did not help. Any suggestions? TIA
Hi, Thanks a lot for the great information you provide...I really liked it and it helped me a lot. can you help me find Pin Ended SPIRAL Blades that fit dremel Moto saw Spiral Blades Saw in all directions with 360º cutting capability. Thanks in advanced Mo
A seller is now offering a pack of 48 blades (12 each of the 4 common blades) on Amazon for a pretty decent price. Just ordered two sets. Sadly, the seller is in China, so expect the shipping to take several weeks. In the meantime, I'm hoping my Dremel blades will last.
Yep. I needed this video to identify the dremel blades. But, wow......you went so fast that I am having to rewatch and pause to copy the information:) it would help if you slowed down the separation and identifying section:) thanks.
+Susan Hamilton P.S. I paid $10. for an extra set of 5 blades at Home Depot. Not the cheapest place in town. I would like to purchase the fence and miter gauge. Do you know where to buy that?
thank you...thank you....thank you. I saw your first video on Amazon. That one helped me decide to buy the tool. This video helped me to figure out the blades.
Thank you, this was really helpful! Sadly the Olson blades aren't available here in the uk (or I haven't found them anywhere yet). But I'm doing pretty simple hardwood cutting for jewellery components so the Dremel blades will probably be fine.
I don't know if this will help any one else but Dremel has attempted to help clarify this by listing the dimensions of the shank (the un-toothed part of the blade). www.dremel.com/en-us/Documents/DremelBladeGuide.pdf
There were only five blades in my kit too (U.K.) but this video and the earlier related videos helped me sort out which was which and I made labelling cards too.
Do you REALLY want to see broken, bloody, scabby working hands, fingers & nails? Thank Mimi for taking such good care of her hands! If I wanted to see a missing finger, I'd watch Norm on This Old House lol.

I think you know more about these blades than Dremel themselves. Thanks for sharing.

Is it possible to adapt painless blades to this Dremel scroll saw?

will 127mm blade fit in dremel ?
I just bought my moto saw today. A 5 year old could set it up it was so easy. I have one question for you. What do you use the side cutting blade for?
+Susan Hamilton P.S. I paid $10. for an extra set of 5 blades at Home Depot. Not the cheapest place in town.
I would like to purchase the fence and miter gauge. Do you know where to buy that?
+Susan Hamilton As far as I know, you have to call Dremel Customer Service to order the miter gauge.
@@robotpizza it is not too hard to make one yourself...
thank you...thank you....thank you. I saw your first video on Amazon. That one helped me decide to buy the tool. This video helped me to figure out the blades.
You have done your nails beautifully.

Hop Jump I'm so glad it was helpful. Thank you for saying so!
I've posted a new video with good closeup views of how to install the Dremel Motosaw blades. th-cam.com/video/IrCvLvKk7Ck/w-d-xo.html
One of the vlades i used was not cutting in a straight line
Thanks so much for all of the info on this product!
Very nice video. Am buying one off craigslist and so wanted to know more about it. Good Job! Thanks!

Really useful Mimi. Thank you

SnapReflexx I'm so glad you found the video useful; thank you for saying so! Glad it helped you!

There were only five blades in my kit too (U.K.) but this video and the earlier related videos helped me sort out which was which and I made labelling cards too.
Just bought mine a few weeks ago and it also had 5 blades only
👍 🏆
NOT rocket science folks. Just look at the blades and see the difference. And why is a woman with such manicured hands doing this review ?
Why not? Even a woodworker can take care of their skin & nails.
Do you REALLY want to see broken, bloody, scabby working hands, fingers & nails?
Thank Mimi for taking such good care of her hands! If I wanted to see a missing finger, I'd watch Norm on This Old House lol.
