I guess from your TH-cam name you are in UK. I bought my plant originally from Dibley's in Wales, who have a fine selection of begonias and do mail order but unfortunately I can't order from them any more because of Brexit. I hope they still have B. luxurians. If they do, don't be afraid of buying a tiny plug. It's worth it. The plant grows quickly. Good luck.
Hi Rachel 🌺Your house plants looks so pretty and this luxuians begonia looks amazing .l lovet . I have begonias rex . Have a wonderful week and Merry Christmas to you. 🎄💫
I have been on the fence about getting this plant. Your video has convinced me to get it. It is so beautiful and I can see it in my space . Even if I have to get a grow lights to maintain it I have got to have this plant.
More house plant tours, please! Maybe a plant room per video? Garden is sleeping until mid february, so you would have have something for january... ??? ...
Thanks for your enthusiasm. I hope to make a houseplant tour video for Christmas eve (the sitting room) and, if you don't get to watch it then, it'll be there after Christmas for you.
I am beginning to wonder why we bother using potting soil for house plants. I've repotted a couple of mine from potting soil to a blend of coconut husk, perlite, charcoal, and chopped sphagnum with just a very small amount of potting soil and what a difference. Root explosion, the plants look better and a lot harder to "over water" because the mix drains really well but does a good job of holding onto moisture.
Girlfriend you sound sick. I applaud your stanima ! I want the palm leaf begonia but they are so expensive right now. I will continue to wait for an affordable price. Years ago you showed some plants in bloom in your greenhouse. I just loved it so searched the internet found the bulbs for sale and they arrived. I potted and labeled them. They never bloomed so I tried them outside. I brought them in in Fall and noticed the labels were blank. I don't know what they are now and they are dormant at the time. The leaves are similar to crocus. The only thing on the label that I can read is red, blue, white😂3 pots of something. Lesson learned label with care lol love your videos. Have a very Merry Christmas and the happiest ever New Year🎉
Thank you for your kind message. Still struggling with a silly cold but feeling better now. As for the bulbs that you lost the label of, did you try searching in your email. If you bought online there should be a record in your email. Yeah, I know what you mean when a desirable plant is overpriced. They usually come down in price in the end so fingers crossed. Wishing you good things and happy Christmas.
Hi Rachel, do you have any advice on how to get my H. papillo to flower? I started the plant from seed. One of the bulbs is quite large with a couple of offsets but does not bloom. Interesting one of seedlings grew about 4 times faster than its sibling. Can't wait to see it bloom. I grow it in wick watering system in a mixture of sphagnum and oyster grit . I fertilize like a do my orchids and flush with pure water regularly.
Congratulations on growing papilio from seed and getting it to such a size. I am not sure how well I can help you with your papilio as I grow mine quite differently. It should be noted that they are evergreen so shouldn't be cut back, as you might do with a terrestrial hippeastrum, but I'm sure you know that. Light and feed would be the most likely culprits for non-flowering.
@GardeningatDouentza how can you grow the begonia luxurians to be that beautiful? Mine is getting brown edges and I use a humidifier. I am using a clay pot.
So Jealous of your Begonia luxurians & Papilio ! Lost my Begonia lux. and Papilio is struggling 😢No matter what potting mix I use, Papilio just 'melts' & stops growing. it's currently in a 75% Orchid bark.. the rest is a good potting soil. Never sure if I should keep it moist... or dry during Winters' indoors? it's in an East Bay Window (away from the cold glass).
So much usable info! Yes, it is hard to find information. This plant is on my wish list, at the top.

Probably just what we are used to and the level of care we are willing to put in 😀
So you just add liquid fertiliser?
@@GardeningatDouentza yes, I’d be adding it either way.
merry Christmas Rachel. Houseplants all look lovely and healthy. I lost my escargot during the summer
Hi Tina and merry Christmas to you too. I'll have to bring some escargot leaves when we next meet up. Do you have sizemoreae?
@@GardeningatDouentza HI Rachel that would be great. No I don't have sizemorae. Thank you
Hi Rachel,
I really enjoyed your video.. Such lovely plants 😍👍
Watching you from Cork 💗 Clonakilty

@@GardeningatDouentza It was maybe 3 yrs ago so I couldn't find anything. I'll try taking a pic.
I feel your pain... it took 2 people to repot my 8 foot tall coffee tree -- it will die in that pot because it is a job I'm not doing again 🤣
Haha. Yes, know that feeling 😅

Do you have a humidifier?
No, I don't.
@GardeningatDouentza how can you grow the begonia luxurians to be that beautiful? Mine is getting brown edges and I use a humidifier. I am using a clay pot.
@@PatriciaHussey-k6re try a plastic pot! I do get brown tips sometimes, mostly in winter. It then picks up again in spring.

Well, my papilio stays fairly dry overwinter because the pot is too small and dries out quickly. I've just used potting mix and hort. sand for mine
