I am a fan of Liam Lawson and last year believed that Daniel Ricardo should've been replaced by him. However, I think Yuki should be the one to get the promotion. Hopefully, Aston Martin improves and an opportunity arises for Yuki to replace Alonso in a few years (unless Stroll is forced out).
@@realitycheck908 Max is my favourite driver on the grid, and he is in a class of his own. On the discussion on the second seat in Red Bull and the RB drivers from what I saw in the 2023 season, I believed Lawson deserved the RB drive over Ricardo. Nothing this season has shown me that Lawson deserves the Red Bull seat over Yuki, actually the flip I believe Yuki deserves the seat. I genuinely believed that Red Bull was going to dump Checo during the summer break because they have an exit clause for when Max is over 100 pts ahead of him by the summer break which he was 130 pts above him at the time. The only justification to not having to bring Yuki is if they had signed Sainz, which in my opinion they should have. Max's team even signed off on Sainz, it was Red Bull who was afraid to bring him in. That is in the past I believe Yuki is the best option for the second driver in Red Bull
@@realitycheck908 By your metric Yuki is mid also. He was for a long time at least. And that’s the problem. Taken him 4 years to get up to speed whereas Liam has come in and is straight in the mix.
Problem is RB doesn't need someone trying to compete with Max. They want someone that helps Max to win. So Yuki got it wrong from the beginning. He always disobey team orders. Even the comment that he wanna challenge Max if he get the RB seat is what putting him outside of the option lol.
Interestingly everyone points out that Tsunoda out qualified Lawson. True, however put this in context, the margins between the two were extremely small. However Lawson had only 6 races this season to acclimatise to the car. So having very little experience in the car vs Tsunoda who has been with the team for 4 yrs, and he's just "beating" the new guy. If Lawson had the whole season as did Tsunoda in the car, I'd beat the Lawson would be ahead. Also given Tsunoda crumbles under pressure.
@@alexproctor7002 I think those days are over. If they want to win they need talent more than they need money. Especially at the moment. Otherwise they will be at the back of the grid. No one wants to spend the big sponsorship money on that either.
The amount of times people misquote that Yuki beat Liam 6-0 in qualifying is too damn high. In COTA Liam didn’t do Q2 due to his grid penalty. But his time from Q1 was faster than Yuki’s Q2 time. Then Mexico Yuki binned it during Liam’s qualifying lap bringing out the red flags and ending Liam’s qualifying. 4-2 in GP to Yuki, 2-1 to Liam in sprints.
@@FormulaTodayF1 Also the wind tunnel and CFD testing limits doesn't affect McLaren until 2026 same for Red Bull. For the 2025 season Red Bull will have the least amount of testing due to winning the 2023 championship compared to McLaren who finished 4th in 2023.
@ Actually they are. Lawson is well in the mix with Yuki after 11 races. Also non continuous races. Taken Yuki 4 years to get this good. Is it fair to Yuki? No. But Lawson is the better option long term. They would be wasting their time by putting Yuki in. Lawson should have been in the VCARB ages ago. And RBR know this. Also let’s not forget that Liam won’t be the only rookie in a tier one team. Kimi is going in the Mercedes. RBR know they need to train Liam in the real car now to compete.
How many times have you seen him drive...? He admits he has a lot to learn (dont we all) but as in any job, nobody should have 100% of the skills or there is no room for development.
Ricciardo was moved aside so that Red Bull could fullfil their contract with Lawson. The head to head with Yuki was on an upward trend at the time. Left in the seat I'm confident he'd have inched ahead. Ricciardo was also super fast in the red bull test last year. He's a marketers dream, extremely popular and given the right car extremely fast. Laugh at me all you want, and i know it won't happen, but the best option for Red Bull next year is Daniel Ricciardo.
I doubt alonso will be dropped from aston martin any time soon, he's one of the best drivers on the grid as proved in 2023 when he came 3rd in the drivers standings, he just needs a good car to prove it, AM also got a proposal from barrichelo to get back into f1 and alonso's teammate so it's pretty clear if anyone is to be dropped it'd be lance

@Alonso’s stats aren’t better than Lewis; nor are Alonso’s teammates. Most F1 teams favor the driver that will win. Alonso’s teams as well. I’m sure he’s favored over Stroll; yet he still gets out qualified occasionally. By Stroll.
@SammiSkulz nah I doubt it, he'd like to be in a better team but Aston Martin is becoming the better team by 2026 so he knows if he stays he's getting a competitive car
Don't get this entitled idea banded about by commentators about Red Bull staff losing bonuses. Welcome to the real world you cannot count on bonuses - don't count your chickens until they have hatched?
There is NO reason for any bonus, they downgraded a very good car during the whole season till it was nearly mid! Not Perez (allone) has lost the contractor championship, the whole RBR team with Horner, Marko and the whole staff of aerodynamics and mechanics lost with building a very bad car for Perez and the racing crew with some really bad timings and decissions in the qualifyings and races of Peres, too! In the whole RBR team there was ONLY ONE person, who made NONE (big) mistake, that person was Max!
What's healthy about this: is the number of drivers available. We've lost Ricciardo, Bottas, Magnussen, and Zhou. Colapinto looks to be out. The problem is: Going up against Verstappen. Could destroy anyone's career! Maybe they should give Perez, Lawson and Tsunoda 1 third of the races each in a Red Bull? Make the choice easier for 2026. Then they all get 2 thirds at Racing Bull. Hadjar can be brought up to speed as reserve (for RB). Then, they don't have the commercial problem of cancelling Perez's contract. He will, likely be out for 2026 (unless he is much better in the Red Bull than the other 2). Then, they can bring Hadjar into RB then too.
There are three big things that are hurting Yuki’s chances. The first is that he has been saying that he is ready to fight *Max*. This would have been well and all last year and the year before, but now that the car is garbage, they need some who will maximize points, not risk losing them fighting their teammate. Liam has smartly been toeing that line, stating he is ready to do what it takes to help Red Bull win. The second thing is, while Yuki has improved his outbursts, it’s clear that he still lets his emotions rattle him and it ends up affecting his performance. What if he goes to the team and gets absolutely trounced by Max. The right mentality that anyone should have is not that they need to beat Max, but that they just have to maximize points, try to be as close to the podium as possible, and pick up the pieces if something goes wrong, as it did in Australia. The last thing is being a Honda driver. People keep saying that Red Bull doesn’t want to appease an engine manufacturer that is departing, but there is another part to consider. Let’s imagine a scenario. Let’s say ‘26 comes around and Red Bull ends up languishing in the midfield while Aston Martin ends up as one of the best cars on the field, miles ahead of the competition. Who feels confident in saying that Yuki would be content with staying in a midfield team? Or would he use his Honda connections to jump to AMR and leave Red Bull high and dry? Ultimately, we’ll have to see how much risk Red Bull is willing to take.
Honda is leaving Red Bull and that alone kicks Yuki out. Perhaps Yuki goes to Aston as their backup until Fernando retires or Lance realizes he terminally average.
Have never heard or read anywhere about the large amount of sponsorship money Lawson brings to Red Bull, yet he is still in the picture. Tells me that the people making the decision believe he has still got something to offer....maybe potential?
Checo won't go anywhere. He is a money making machine off the grid, Max likes him, and they like having a clear cut #1 and #2 driver. Yes, they want Checo to perform better, but the RB20 was a failed car this season and Checo had a lot of bad luck this season. RB stays status quo and it will be up to Yuki to stay or go, otherwise the Racing Bulls will have the same line up as well.
Problem with reb dull is they are looking for driver who are second driver they dont want a driver who want to compete with max. 2 mistake they did is they offered perez extension very early and they did not go to sainz or hulk . That same will happen with the RB21 after the start of the season, no matter who is Max team mate. The only difference is, that Perez is used to step back for Max, the other drivers would argue a lot and struggel at least as much as Perez! And all other drivers than Perez will be harmed once again by RBR, as all drivers have ben done since the existence of Red Bull joining F1 but Max (till now at least!).
