Yeah if you are wondering technically of Odysseus 600 men the only ones who died were those killed by the Cyclops so those men didn’t die in the war, so the dude has a pretty good track record considering the war lasted 10 years.

2:25 Fun fact when Eurylochos said to Odysseus that he is like his brother he could never live without, it is actually true. Eurylochus is married to Odysseus sister, so they’re brother in law.

I know it won’t happen, but imagine when Ody gets home in EPIC he sees his sister again. He’d have to explain what happened with Eurylochus, and how he tried giving him one of the torches

@@Phasmaniain tumblr someone* drew this scene where once in Ithaca his sister asks if her husband and the other shipmates are waiting in the harbor (since Odysseus is ALONE) and at Odysseus silence and quiet dread she literally goes “Say something… Say something!” Just like Eury does

@@plaguedoctor2882 that goes hard. Especially cause he’s arriving alone I’m sure she already knows the answer by that point, also the parallel is great. It would be cool to see for sure but I don’t think we’ll be seeing her unfortunately. I at least want some kind of acknowledgment or reference to the crew and his friends by the end of the musical tho, they’re too crucial to the story to be fully cast out after the Thunder Saga imo

What gets forgotten is Odysseus is not just th Captain or a brother in arms. He is literally the KING of Ithaca. Getting called out in front of the entire crew by his second in command in front of a large number of his elite hand picked soldiers. Soldiers who are backing up and echoing Eurylcus' concerns is not a good thing. Odysseus is fully within his rights at that point to start throwing people into the sea. But he's still dealing with the loss of Polites, trying to rally the rest of the crew with positivity, and doesn't want to hurt his only remaining friend. This is a mild reaction for his position. That being said if his second in command and everyone on his ship have concerns, valid concerns, it would have been better to fully address them and go over the plan. Ody is a character of extremes. No chill.

Something to remember, Odysseus is Eurylochos's Captain, friend , brother-in-law and KING and he is calling him out in front of the men

"I took 600 men to war and not one of them died there" refers specifically to the Trojan war, where none of his men died. Polites and 6-ish other soldiers dying after the war, on the journey back does not diminish that Odysseus lost no men during 10 years of war.

I understand Eurylochus being concerned, but he's also the one who said they wouldn't survive the storm...so they're kinda limited on options. And you're right, the men didn't really die b/c Odysseus relied on wit. Putting aside the factors that got them to the cave in the first place, MORE men would've died if Ody hadn't thought to drug Polyphemus. I think it's meant to be a general criticism of "you jump into risky situations without taking enough precautions b/c you assume you're smart enough to get out of them", which IS true but still isn't really why the men died. When it comes to the current scene, I think everyone would've been better off if Odysseus asked Eury to not challenge him so openly in front of the crew (Ody IS their captain, general, and *king*, after all) but also truly acknowledged his concerns and asked him for other ideas. That's what one's second command is for, I would think? Eury has a good point that asking a god for assistance is risky and almost always has a cost. Maybe he'd have been okay with the plan if Ody showed more caution and/or planned to take some people with him to speak with the wind god? I guess we'll never know~
