Tommy was a legend playing electric long before he gained fame as an acoustic player. Probably a good idea to check out Phil his brother, now deceased. Tommy used to play drums when he and Phil played together, Phil was regarded by many as the 'better' guitarist, if you can believe it.
Many years ago I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Tommy and Phil play a gig at the Melbourne Hotel in Brisbane, an amazing show of two premier musicians enjoying each others playing and sharing mutual respect, a bit like this really.
Saw Tom and Phil's band Goldrush play every week at Cammeray Hotel for a number of years in the late 70's and early 80's. People use to say why pay $50 to see Eddie van Halen in a crowd of 30,000 when you can see better for $2 in a crowd of 250. Phil was one of the worlds great players in the early 80's. th-cam.com/video/cNXEDsf36Ww/w-d-xo.html Tom's true musical forte, the Drum Kit was a feature of this band. Legendary Banjo artist Mark Collins also in this band. Memorable guitar duets on Santana's "Europa". After Goldrush ended Tom moved to Doug Parkinson's band, spent a couple of years at the Manzil Room, Tom proved he was in the same class as the Jazz great Allan Holdsworth in this band. Tom was an electric guitar great long before moving to the US.
@@kcobley Mate, lived right across the road from the San Miguel in Cammeray. Some Sunday arvo's there was a handful, more often a packed house. And watching the nascent Midnight Oil at the Civic Hotel in the city, with maybe a dozen people, thinking, "These guys are good, they're going to go places."
I knew Phil, he regarded his brother to be a phenomenal talent and would show off things that he had learned from Tommy. They had great fun together. Phil bought Tommy that famous Telecaster after calling a finance company. “It was the only way to get him out of the bloody shop” he said. Sad that he’s left Australia to live in America, but it makes me laugh watching the yanks mouths hang open when this bloke from New South Wales gets up to jam.
Tommy knows the guitar like nobodies business. He can play anytime, anywhere, with anybody. And his attack always adds a fresh dimension. The guy is truly something else.
Everyone, including myself, mentions the soloists...but supporting musicians need to be mentioned too! The beautiful backup ladies are singing fabulously!!! Nobody better! I *always* admire them! Anton is hard at work with the rhythm! I’m sure his arms get a real workout…and we appreciate him! Then I want to mention Michael Rhodes, because his bass work is always top-notch! He's great! I love him!
This was such an incredible experience being on this cruise with all this wonderful talent !!! I had so much fun and the memories will last a lifetime.
Tommy is like no other to walk this great earth, his music takes you on a journey and makes you feel. You realise how much you got to practise guitar haha!
PlayMoreGuitar Really? IMHO he ranks behind 5 other Aussies for a start: Jeff Lang, Dave Hole, Angus Young, Phil Manning, and Ian Moss. Tommy is a great technical player, but there’s something sterile, even soulless about his recorded work
@@geoffcarruthers4404 Geoff, no offense, but you just identified yourself as a non-musician and unable to discern music. Tommy Emmanuel is the opposite of a “technical” player, always interprets with his heart and mind, and gives himself EVERY single time he plays. He doesn’t even read music for heaven’s sake. I normally let uninformed comments stand without bothering but you went beyond what should be born. Listen to Bonamassa’s intro again.
@@garywhitt98 I referred to his recorded work, which too often descends into the realm of elevator music. Live, I agree with you but I still can’t rate him above the 5 I mentioned overall especially Lang, who to my mind is THE great undiscovered guitarist/songwriter on the planet. Joe’s intro brings to mind Hendrix, who reportedly claimed both Rory Gallagher and Terry Kath as the greatest guitarist of the era…..at roughly the same time.
Well, well, well, what a pleasant interlude! Love Joe and Tommy, guitar virtuosos, And all the musicians…Reese Wynans 04:28, Lee Thornburg 04:57, and Paulie Cerra 05:40! What a great bunch of musicians!
Guitar Paradise exist! Guitarblood is running through the veins of these giants and we ordinary people may enjoy their universal skills! Thanks Linda for posting!
Mr. Bonamassa, it seems as though you've met your match...Love it! Love Tommy Emmanuel and love your guitar playing! Thanks for putting that together!!!
Yaaaaa Tommy and Joe!!! This is a freaking good as it gets!!, lots of cool stuff they're doin here!! and chaasseck out that lick Tommy does around 9:12 minutes!!! 🤠🐦
Missmoke007 You just keep doing it, You have topped the last three days for my love of blues. Thank you so much for your talent, great videos. I would have loved being there, if I ever hear about another cruise like this one, I will try to be there. Thankyou Joe, Tommy & Missmoke. Sincerely Barry M. Nova Scotia, Canada
What's awesome is Tommy has the chops, almost anywhere, anytime. It's the acoustic guitar that he will take to levels the likes few ever see. Playing with his brother Phil (R.I.P.) usually allowed Tommy to get very familiar with more of a rocked out Tele' feel and it's nice to hear as an alternative here with JB. Very nice how Joe Bonnamossa shows his respect and gives Tommy some nice room. Tommy recipricates and does the same back. Both class acts! Nice!
Tommy Joe n Josh on the same stage one night is a steal..much Respect for these guys. Quote: “The Musicians can not separate their musical ability from their souls..the two go together” Tommy Emmanuel👈🙌🏽🙏👍🤙RIP Phil..Tommy’s older brother he was as good as Tommy if not better..both talented gifted Musicians👈🙏🙌🏽👍👊🏿👊🏾
Is there anyone besides Hendrix Tommy E has not played with? The man has a guitar in his hand probably 12 hours a day every day. An amazing talent and a genuinely nice human being. He truly is a one man band because he can play lead, rhythm, bass and drums on his guitar at the same time.
This is what having focus is! I would love to know how old these two were when their parents realized these two were going to have an impact on the music scene?
A cool, beautiful interplay that is needed to put together a song like "Well, Well, Well" on the big stage of the much larger barge into a truly big one ... you always inspire me anew ... the old remains the new is coming ... Jesus, the blues shuts forever and that is what makes life worth living
Tommy has been doing this since he was old enough to hold a guitar. He and his older brother Phil were an amazing duo. They have some aboriginal ancestry and it shows.
Two of my personal top 5 there, the others being Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler and Paul Gilbert. I love most music that has a guitar in it although I'm not very good at playing myself.

Tommy is most definitely one of the best ever. Joe ain't suckin neither.
"Truly, the best in the world, Tommy Emmanuel," Joe B. Well, Joe, you aren't a slouch yourself!

Phil absolutely was the better guitarist...on electric at least. But when Tommy switched to primarily acoustic fingerstyle, no one was even close.

This is a lesson of 2 guitar legends having a duel of respectful talent.

M. Lou looks like Jade and Juanita on backing vocals this time round.
The horn section are always spot on too.
You’re so right. A good set of musicians can really make a difference.
Don't forget the organ donor!
Well said M. Lou, Joe has a great band behind him! He has for example Reese Wynans in his band!!!!
More than awesome playing and filming Linda! Thanks for being there for those of us who couldn't make it!
Starling Productions 😊👍

cross roads baby !! blues from the ground up
Real pros know how to share the spotlight. Excellent.
Tommy is the god of the guitar. Guitar is his third arm. Please, god, may this legend live forever.
Tommy is like no other to walk this great earth, his music takes you on a journey and makes you feel. You realise how much you got to practise guitar haha!
Incredible Tommy... still the best to ever grace this earth. *In my humble opinion
There is some downside you know, I did some calculations... no matter how much I practice... Tommy's skill is lightyears beyond anyway...

Awesome! Tommy’s one of the hardest working guitarist around. He never fails to amaze and entertain the audience.🤘

Testing limits and pushing forward by collaboration... I Love it!

I am Tommy fan since I went to his concert 15 years ago. Joes vintage Fender strato tone is stunning. Awesome.
