Safety and productivity with human robot cooperation is possible thanks to SICK technologies. The intelligent combination of a safety laser scanner S300 mini, a Flexi Soft safety controller, a deTec4 light curtain and the STR1 safety switch from SICK allows a compact safeguarded palletizing application.

I really don't understand, why slow down the palletizer robot when someone enters the inactive cell? The light field prevents anyone from reaching the robot, and also prevents the robot from working in the inactive field (along with the magnetic safety switch).
So the whole volume inside the inactive cell should be considered 100% safe for humans right?
Basically the same level of safety should be able to be reached by only the sliding door with magnetic switch, and the 2 light barriers separating the cell from the robot.
So the magnetic safety switch simply decides which light field is active and which cell the robot will work in. The light field is turned off for the cell that has a closed magnetic switch.
The remaining risk would be if someone remains in the cell and closes the sliding door behind, but that can be resolved by a forced button press to restart palletizer robot when door switching have taken place, preventing someone from closing the door while inside.
Thank you for your comment.
The slowing down of the robot when a person enters the area protected by the safety laser scanner is an integral part of our safety concept for this application and the safety system being used. When there are no people in the work area, the robot operates at full speed. However, as soon as someone enters the pallet area, it slows down so that it can be safely stopped by the light curtain in case of an unexpected entry.
