The jackrabbit is a metaphor to describe anyone with an intent to "always win," and being vengeful. She identifies that this is also part of the personality of those "elite" people, and she understands that even if she runs back home, her life is still in danger. This scene not only demonstrates her toughness, but also highlights her deep understanding of people's intentions and motives, which she discerns by reading between the lines.
Exactly - it reminds me of the Bene Gesserit story in Dune of the difference between humans and animals - an animal will gnaw its leg off to get out of a trap, b/c it is thinking only of moment-by-moment survival - a human will wait and figure out how to turn the tables on the one who set the traps.
I love this part, because if you were paying attention on your first run of the movie, you know here, that Don is most likely BSing "Snowflake". "I went North". Snowflake went North, after using her pin to figure out which way North was. How did Don know which way was North without a similar method to determine that? "Until the dogs started chasing me". Snowflake hasn't encountered any dogs what-so-ever, nor heard them. The dogs don't exist. She has seen a drone, however. "Why did they have that case full of guns, to give us a fighting chance?". Snowflake never saw the case, she left the area before any of that happened. Don didn't even see her there, so why'd he assume she saw it too? "What's with the pig?". Snowflake never even saw the pig, either. She wasn't there for the opening of the crate. Don is telling us he was 100% at the crate, saw the pig, saw them opening it, saw all the weapons, but he "headed north". Then, you look at his clothes. Clean. Doesn't look like he was "trekking through the woods" at all. Not like Snowflake here. Snowflake is dirty as crap. Don is well kempt and clean. Don also trusts her immediately and implicitly for no reason. Despite the fact that we've seen the group hunting them has a ton of people willing to pretend to be helpful and kind and anything except people trying to kill them. Snowflake here has decided that he's a threat already. But, he's more useful alive. She only snap kills him once she's told that "he can stop pretending now". Don is even wearing an "Airborne" hat, which indicates he might have been in the air force or something, but he's shocked about the dead people later, and avoids combat, as well as asks her for a gun rather than just picking one up. The other people at the crate didn't hesitate to pick up weapons at all the moment shots were fired at him, but Don does. What's even more fun? The story of the Jackrabbit. It isn't just some "story out of nowhere". It is Snowflake knowing EXACTLY what is going on with Don. Don is doing a "slow and steady wins the race" with her. Taking his time. Assessing the situation. Trying to figure her out. Snowflake is telling him, outright, that she's the Jackrabbit. That his "slow and steady" may win him the race, but she's going to kick his door in, kill his family, and eat his supper. Because the Jackrabbit always wins. That story is a threat to Don. She's telling him exactly how it's going to go and that she knows he's the Turtle. That he's playing her.
This is literally one of the best anaylsis’s I’ve ever read. I loved this adaptation of the hare and the tortoise but always wondered how it fit into the context of the movie. Your anaylsis makes perfect sense.
I think your wrong, the only reason i think Don might be bad is bc of his attitude at the camp. He seems to excited for being hunted and watching people die imo.

Soldiee but she’s going to make everything right and kill them all because it is her that always wins. Snowball is a reference from George Orwells book "Animal Farm". It's a great read and gives insight into human nature (an oversimplified synopsis, but yeah, lol). It's a short read as well 😊.
She did, but it's valuable teaching. Because you don't beat the Hare at his own game. You go into his house, and smash him up first. You don't run his race. You might beat the hare fair and square, but that doesn't mean he's not going to destroy your life and maybe kill you over it later. Because that game might be the only thing he's got. No, you don't race the hare. You boil him alive.

One thing kept this from being one of my favorite movies of all time. It was a plot point not any kind of mistake. SPOILERS: Betty turns on the old man and it’s ambiguous if he was a plant or not. One of the elites because I’m pretty sure Swank was lying. But it had to come down to the ladies at the end. Just have someone else kill the old man.
She’s the Jackrabbit that fell asleep, she’s the alpha with the experience in killing, and she has the will to finish it her way. Remember at the end she eats her food, takes her clothes, and her jet!! This wasn’t their game to play, it’s hers. It’s crazy cuz she was living a plain life after the military, it took a few silly turtles to awaken her alpha. Well, she must get them now while she can. The elites found her easily and will do it again. "Kill or be killed attitude" is what you must take on
