Thank you very much for this great footage of this "every-day-sitaution" it has hlped me much to understand the signals and handsigns! Keep on the good work, Oliver from Germany (who knows the area quite well because I have relatives on Bainbridge Island)
Ya got a new fan from the other, Eastern coast, in Virginia. Very few opportunities to watch, let alone, see trains around here. Too much sand, and tourists. Great video's. Remind me of long ago, in Pa. where I grew up watching endless freight, and passenger trains. Thanks.
@cthsemilw I think it's been around since the '30's or '40's or so, based on aerial photos I've seen. Not sure which railroad the yard belonged to back in the old days. All the yards around here seem to be pretty well maintained, at least to me.
@baggerolli1 If you like seeing crews using hand signals, check out my video titled "BNSF 1573 interchanging cars at Shilshole Yard, Seattle, 9-11-2010". I was nice and close as a crew setout and picked up some cars at that yard using hand signals.
SILVIC THEROBLOXIAN Actually, this video was shot on "Harbor Island" in Seattle. It is a man-made island in the mouth of the Duwamish River. It was completed in 1909, covers 350 acres and was made from 24 million cubic yards of dirt. The dirt came from several very steep hills in downtown Seattle that were leveled so buildings could be placed there. This is the small yard on the island. The island is used for commercial purposes - container yards, shipyards, flour mill, etc.
Very interesting switching and shunting action. Well filmed. Pretty busy place there. Thumbs up! :)
Greetings

Great video!! Love the switch yard action! Thanks for posting..
@modemeyes Thanks. I've been wanting to catch this crew for sometime, got lucky and got some good footage.
That is one of most clean, well ballasted yards I've ever seen. Track looks very smooth as well. Is it a new yard?

WHO IN THE WORLD LETS A CAR ROLL ON ITS OWN INTO TANK CARS IN WASHINGTON!?!?!?
Perfectly safe, calm down and quit "yelling" with all caps. Kicking cars is done a slow speeds, only around 5 mph or less.
SeattleRailFan I say that because its a very hilly area.
SILVIC THEROBLOXIAN Harbor Island is flat
rm2kmidi seattle does not have a harbor island, they do it on shore, and this is in the freight yard.
