It was a clean sweep of its goals. The 2003 USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team finished a perfect 10-0, won the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and most importantly, qualified the USA men for the 2004 Olympics.
In the much anticipated game with Argentina, the team that ended the U.S. senior team's 58-game win streak with an 87-80 win in the 2002 World Championship play, Jermaine O'Neal finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the U.S. prevailed with a 94-86 victory.

This was the real Team USA. The one that went to the Olympics was our B Team. McGrady, Garnett, Shaq, Kobe, Kidd, they all stayed home

@@Maxto2xD Still a B team. Only Duncan, Iverson, and RJ from this team went to Athens and the rest were hastily assembled with little rhyme and reason within 2 weeks. Shawn Marion is not an A-lister like Kidd, TMac, Vince, and Ray, who all didn't go to Athens. Lebron and Stoudemire were youngsters who averaged only a few minutes of playtime.

Man, it so sad this team roster was wasted for not going to competed in Olympic, years later, aside from AI and Tim Duncan...
Now dont compare iverson to irving the way iverson smoothness and speed is great

I think the biggest mistake that USAB manager at the time was allowing themselves to dropped out most of the roster from 2003 line up who just won the Tournament of America(that make US qualified to 04 Olympic). Also the fact that Larry Brown wasted the young LBJ, Wade & Carmelo time to be in there but he'd barely even used them was absolute criminal. After the roster changes and with their seniority mindset, they should've had just brought some Piston player like Chauncey, Ben Wallace & Hamilton who'd just won a chips at the same year instead of those rookie I mentioned. Those Pistons player would've had tighten the defense in that US squad. What a stupid management
Some of you have zero understanding of what went down. It’s sad. The USBA could not stop those guys from failing to live up to their promise to return for 2004 because an Al Queda terrorist bombing in Madrid scared the bell out of most of those guys. This was just three years after 9/11.
Also the original idea was to fill the roster with key members of the 2004 Pistons, but the players on the Pistons team just finished playing in the NBA Finals and they were tired.

Yup. No 2003 Roster in Athen NO PARTY ! If the 03 roster went to olympic, US would've had won. Damn, the USA team at this time were managed by clown since they changed the whole roster next year smh ! If only the coach & manager could give some motivation pride, dedication and just locked these roster, they would've had stayed and then competed in 04 olympic !
I think the US was just over confident, thinking we could bring in rookie and a bunch of upper role player stars. As far as I'm concerned 2004 was a wakeup call.

Iverson play amazing...Only Lakers combo and Kg not in this team...but in olimpics a lot of the best Players They decided not to go... And a lot of young guys replace... No Vince(maybe second best with Tmac in this preolimpic and amazing at 2000 Olympics)Kobe and Shaq again Tmac Kmart Jo Kg again and Iverson with Tim and Baby Wade Bron Melo and a lot of good but not amazing playera for this era

this video is made to focus on USA team,especially Iverson,but i thought that the Argentina team lost the game by only 8 point means Ginobili is legend level player since this time.
In a group stage... The Argentina then got blown out by 33 point in the final of these tournament

Buddy, all of the players for Team USA but two (Iverson and Duncan) backed out at the last minute because of a deadly train bombing in Madrid by Al Queda. As a result Team USA had to put together a new squad in a short time, the majority of the new guys being inexperienced NBA guys who never played with international rules. If the guys from this 2003 team had stuck with Team USA in 2004, as originally planned, Argentina would have been crushed again.

Let's notice that Jermaine O'Neal makes a difference here. Not to say bring a super all All-Star team but if they had Bibby who is a true point guard instead of Starbury and bring another tall center like……like even Eric Danpier to play alongside Duncan or share some of his play time, that'll make a big difference.
A true PG, a tall C, a decent shooter, that'll be enough, doesn't have to be the best in every position from the league. And play some games together befire the Olympics then kepp the same squad. That 2004 team just didn't have what a successful fiba team should have.
Also if Melo could have a few more minutes instead of Wade……2004 Wade was not ready yet.
