    James thanks for showing the 360 view on the helmet. Not many do that on their helmet reviews, it really does help.

    We can see that James DID use it a lot. You can see the salt lines on the straps.

    I dont how its areo with the huge air catcher in the center of the front of the helmet. Even when the vent is closed.

    $350? No, thanks. I'm sure it's great. But no way is 12x better than my $30 Decathlon helmet (CE approved).

      It does look very nice and I'm sure its a good helmet, but likewise, the price screams, 'Very High Margin'!

      Agreed, looks nice but I don't think it's worth the price. I got myself an xnito for $150 and it's working great so far

      Ummm, yes it is worth it. How comfortable is your present helmet four or five hours in? How good is the sweat control of the skimpy synthetic padding? I know my present helmet (Bonttager) sucks balls and it is also isn't that cheap. I'm definitely saving up for a Wasabi and probably a Kask Valegro too for summer.

    I was at Target the other day and noticed even Target is selling cheap $29 Bell helmets with MIPS....but it seemed like the MIPs design was defective. I could not get the MIPS inner liner to rotate at all - it was like oversized relative to the EPS shell so it was shoved inside and physically locked in place. Seems like the self-auditing of MIPS designs isn't a valid approach.

    We have to be getting close to a refresh on the Protone line… Curious to see where the design direction goes.

    No MIPS at that price?

    • @tonysoviet3692

      I think MIPS is actually outdated. Many of the good helmets, like those from POC, evolved pass MIPS to use tech like helmet spin to make sure your neck doesn't snap in addition to not having helmet's fragments piercing your skull. I agree that $350 is crazy, but I know these helmets are on sales often, especially with some colorways, so the price isn't very rigid.

    I personally like Kask helmets the most.

      I wanted to. Made the mistake of ordering one from the internet. They seem to be made for round heads. At least the model I got. My freakish head is shaped pretty oval. More like an American football. 🏈

    Nice but behind the times with no MIPS.

    • @litchips
      @litchips 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More like ahead of the times, IMO. MIPS seems useless on real people with hair, scalp movement, and necks. It's the biking equivalent of a tinfoil hat, except yellow and plastic.

    James certainly looks like he loved doing the 360° view.

    I love my Giro Aether Mips, however the EPS foam is just so easily scratched (and I mean everyone knows Giro’s build quality). But I am surprised to find that those new helmets are just becoming more and more ugly…

  • @greghart6310
    @greghart6310 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mips is just a marketing ploy, in a crash, the helmet is going to move on your head whether it has Mips or not. Personally I find Mips just an irritation that makes the lining slide around inside in the helmet making it unstable on your head. I used to race motocross which is a lot faster and more dangerous than road cycling and not a single one of the lids feature any such nonsense. I really like the comfort and snug stability of the Kask range. (No I dont work for Kask but yes I am an industrial/product designer)

    $350, no MIPS equivalent. Helmet actually looks good on James

      I'd rather have Merino wool than yellow plastic on my head, that's for sure.

    Not sure about that gaping vent on the front. When those bast*rd wasps fly in they'll have a field day stinging your bonce if they can't get out.

    It looks like a skateboarding helmet

    • @that_which_is_not
      @that_which_is_not 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minor point, it’s a ‘skate helmet’ when referring to that type of helmet. That makes it multi disciplinary for inline, scoot etc and differentiates it from being used on a bike. Skateboarders don’t have specific ‘skate helmets’

    Wool! Now I need to check if my helmet is ethically sourced… wool is a terrible industry and ditto to the environment. No MIPS for this price too. :(

    Not a fan of matte color trend. I own the protone. Love it but agree not best for sweat on forehead. Have to wear a cap or headband underneath

    Arrogance of Kask to not offer Mips or equivalent safety system is distasteful. I’m sure it caters to the affluent roadies who ride with Rapha kit. They can keep this overpriced design and suffer its shortcomings at their own expense.
